The "problem" with Lost Planet (and it's more of a problem with me than with the game) is that your health is constantly depleting, so if you are a loser who has trouble with a boss battle (like me, for instance), you have the added pressure of being up against a clock.

Yeah, I see how that can become an issue at times, but just during regular combat? I like it. It keeps you moving, pressing forward, which is something I don't tend to do when I know I have all the time in the world.

This game a has a huge online community from all over the world. The single player was good, but the online is where it lives.

LP2 should be insane. They added the ability to run, to use moving shields, ride VS Suits as someone else controls it, and other cool stuff that players wanted.

I don't know how the game controls...
They're not perfect but they're pretty darn cool. You have more mobility than 1st person shooters.

This game is hitting all of my buttons. I need to check the first game out. I'm sure I can get a copy for a song now.
If you do, get the Colonies version. The new Colonies versions added new maps, weapons, play modes, characters, and etc.

EDIT: I see you're already sold on Colonies.

Well, I can see what you mean but it's not really "health". It's what's keeping you warm on the snow planet and what powers your energy weapons and vehicles; and when it all runs out, THEN your health starts to dwindle.

But yeah, it still acts more or less acts like "health".

I felt the same way. I hate games where you are up against a clock and that's the way the game felt.

I thought this was interesting...these are the top 25 tracked/played games on trueachievements.com:

01-Halo 3 33286
02-Gears of War 32208
03-Grand Theft Auto IV 30219
04-Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 30027
05-Gears of War 2 28406
06-Assassin's Creed 25966
07-BioShock 23716
08-Fable II 22732
09-Fallout 3 21762
10-Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock 20769
11-The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 20717
12-Crackdown 20437
13-Left 4 Dead 20315
14-Mass Effect 20245
15-Call of Duty: World at War 20197
16-Dead Rising 19650
17-The Orange Box 19221
18-Forza Motorsport 2 16553
19-Guitar Hero II 16322
20-Call of Duty 2 16305
21-Rock Band 16228
22-Rainbow Six Vegas 15733
23-Call Of Duty 3 15262
24-Rainbow Six Vegas 2 15242
25-Viva Pinata 14505

I'm really surprised at alot of these positions, and even more surprised that Rock Band 2 is at #36.

Except that, if that site is like 360voice, it's predominately more "hardcore" gamers who go through the rigamarole of setting up and linking an account, and they've shown they're hardcore fans of Halo and GoW.
Plus, that's just unique users who've played the game, right? If they rented it once it would peg there, so that skews the numbers a little bit.
I think I can see Rock Band 2 being behind RB1.

Crackdown at 12 surprised me. I think it's a great game, but I know it was originally known as "the game that came with the Halo 3 demo".

Guitar Hero III is the biggest surprise for me since I see it as the weakest of the GH/RB games, although it may have fed off of the success of GH2. It's also pretty impressive that COD 2, 3, 4, & 5 are in the top 25.

If there were rooms of 8 for TDM in COD2 (and wouldn't quit), I would totally have kept that game.

Got my Raiden Fighters Aces in today and gave it a spin at lunch. Wow... super addicting. I didn't want to put it down.

RB2, despite being (arguably) the most popular game on this forum, was a commercial failure, especially compared to the recent Guitar Hero games.

I wouldn't go nearly as far to calling it a commercial failure. It certainly didn't meet expectations, it's still a money maker and has sold quite a lot of copies.

I think they came out and said they've lost millions of dollars on it.

Were they figuring in all the defective equipment replacements? Cause that would explain it.

I'd say the 1 billion+ dollars they've made on DLC has made up for that just a bit.

Wow, really? Nevermind then, I take it back. I would have thought it was still fairly successful given sales figures and DLC money.

Source? I haven't seen anything about 1 billion in just DLC. I see that the entire franchise has had sales of over 1 billion, which is very very different.

EDIT: And it says retail sales.

Disc-wise, I don't think they've done so hot. It wasn't a total failure like MadWorld (just as an example).

However, they've done really well with DLC and that's their "cash cow", so to speak.

That's pure speculation though. What percentage do they keep? What does it cost per song to do the note-tracking and /or animations? How much are royalties?

I didn't say they get to keep all that money. I just said they've brought in over $1B with DLC. That's not speculation at all.

I'm sure that note-tracking and/or animations don't end up costing a whole lot, as they've got it down to a science now and can bang out new tracks left and right. The licensing probably costs them a bit, but most of the time it's just a one-time fee.

Google to the rescue. EA expects to lose $400 million in 2009 on Rock Band.

I wonder if that is because of licensing the Beatles and/or Lego.

I still can't find anything that supports that they've made that much via DLC.
