Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

It's been a while in the making (and it's still a work in progress), but...

The DLC post is up-to-date and with its new format.

New features
* Marketplace links! Watch the videos and then click the song title to go directly to the 360 Online Marketplace and spend those points!
* Post size is not an issue anymore
* Slightly easier to read format (no more 3/2/3/3/1)

Still needs
* Packs and album info added back in
* Most represented Genre and Artist
* Total cost

Shouldn't be too much longer before it's 100%, but it's in a completely workable state now, so check it out and rest assured that I'll have your new videos up promptly every Tuesday from now on.

Nice work. You have a font issue with Motley Crue. Also when you click on one of the current DLC tracks, you lose the table.

Finally listened to Styx while I was checking out your post. I wouldn't have known about the lead singer differences if I hadn't read about it. They sound great.

Nice work. I still contend that you don't need to bother with the tinyurl stuff at all. Seems like an unnecessary step in your process, but if it works for you.

Maybe the next thing you can add is a search box like goLucky has in the gamertag one.

Do you mean that it goes to YouTube and you lose the table? You can always rightclick in the pane and hit back. I don't know if I can load the yt stuff into a separate pane or not.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Crue stuff. Looks like an issue going from extended ASCII to standard. I'll have to look into that. For the time being, I'll just get rid of the umlauts.

The tinyurl stuff helps on my end by making my spreadsheet readable. It's not much of a hassle as I have a plugin that auto-generates tinyurls at the click of a button.

As for searching, maybe sometime in the future. I'm only doing really basic HTML stuff right now, and would probably need to go to ASP.NET to handle any type of searching. Maybe not. I know next to nothing about HTML.

Just fyi - the iframe stuff might not/sounds like it won't be allowed on the site anymore due to spammers using it to bypass things. I've mentioned that it wouldn't be happy days in the VG forum because of that to the admins.

Is it that common of a problem that it can't be actively moderated? Why punish us for that?

I'm discussing it with the admins. What I posted was merely and FYI - no need to open discussion about it.

Ok. I was just curious how often iframes are used for spamming. Moving on...

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

Fixed the problem with "Motley Crue" for now, as well as another problem where not everything was showing up in the Archive section. Now all 472(!!!) currently available songs are showing up. Woo!

Just purchased Renegade through your new chart. Works like a charm.

Nice!

If at least one person uses it, it's worth it. Plus it gave me a chance to mess around with some new code and learn some things.

It's pretty seemless now.

Step 1. Update an Excel spreadsheet with the new DLC info (still manually adding links)
Step 2. Click a button for generating the HTML for the current week and automatically uploading it to my webspace
Step 3. Click another button to generate the HTML for the archive and automatically upload that as well

I guess I could combine steps 2 & 3 into one button, but that's just getting lazy!

Couldn't you have an on-save macro do both button presses?

I could. But I might start doing the weekly stuff over at my other forum and they don't allow frames. So I've got that going to a VBCode textbox I can copy/paste from.

Yup, cheers Shag!

Although you normally end up costing me $5 or $10 when I get a few beers in me and start "drunk buying" songs; your list makes it too easy to peruse the charts and pick stuff up. Sounds like it's going to be worse for me now with actual links to the Marketplace.

Re: Rock Band: Official Thread

Tried to make it as easy and seemless as possible. If PSN had an online Marketplace, I'd link to that as well.

If that ever happens, let me know, PS3 guys. I hardly follow an PS news and just use mine as a Blu-Ray player.

I never get bottles.

Something I've been wondering...when games have expansions, don't they get to add some achievements? Couldn't Rock Band do this? It'd be nice if they could add some achievements in that take advantage of the DLC.

They do this via the Track Packs. Each Track Pack so far has counted as an expansion and added 250 new achievement points.

The singer that's gone, Dennis DeYoung, didn't sing lead on those tracks in the first place (their songs typically had one of 3 singers... Dennis, Tommy or JY). These were always Tommy Shaw songs and still are.

You know what song HAS to be in Lego Rock Band? The White Stripes' "Fell in Love With a Girl."
