Finding time for video games
I'm not sure what's happening but I'm finding myself playing less and less video games. I can't remember the last time I turned on my wii, my xbox is mad at me (via my xbl blog) and my ps3 is only used for movies - barely. With work and school and homework from noth places, I just don't have it in me to game.
So for the other hardworking adults out there, how do you find time to game? Do you make a schedule? Just wing it? Or do you find your VG time shrinking like me?
*sigh*

It shrinks that's for sure. But even if I can squeak in an hour or so before bed, at the very least a quick game of Catan then I am happy. I now find myself praying for a sick day once in a while though

Re: Finding time for video games
I think I'm actually burned out from it. I've hardly played at all in the last 2-3 weeks. I blame it on the massive amount of game releases at the end of the year. I either bought or rented every new game that came out every week and tried to play the Hell out of them before the next one came out. Now I look at my library and nothing seems to do it for me except maybe some Rock Band here and there. I also just got my computer back from Gateway after being in their repair shop for a massive 61 days, so I have plenty to explore on the internet, also.

Over the years it has been up and down. Three kids, job, wife, I just get it in when I can. The thing that has got me playing more is the fact that my son is old enough to play xbox live games with me, and so now we can spend time doing that....

Usually an hour or two in the evening. Like Fox's, my boy is old enough to play some games, so we game together sometimes which is good. I don't watch actual TV so that's not an issue. My gaming time/interest does fluctuate, however.
One thing game makers can do to help is including save-anywhere. Thank you Fallout 3 for making it easy to play and easy to stop (and many other games as well, of course). Though I love RPGs, there's nothing worse than trying to stay awake late at night to find the next damn save point.
And though I like getting a lot of value for my money, I'm seeing a benefit in shorter games now.

I work about 50 hours a week and started an evening program to get my MBA last summer, so I have a pretty tight schedule. My girlfriend usually goes to bed around 10, so most of my gaming is between that and midnight on weeknights that I can get by without doing homework. Once or twice a month I'll have a couple buddies over on a weekend and stay up late with Left 4 Dead, Rock Band, Mario Kart or some other local multi-player game. I also had a week off both work and school over the holidays, so I used that to make a slight dent in my unplayed pile, which was nice.

I'm also watching a lot fewer movies and reading less, which are both trade-offs.

By the time I get home from work and the gym, I only have about 2-3hrs per night max to play games, watch movies or read (I don't really watch TV). I try to get some playing time on the weekend as well when I'm not out drinking. It's tough to find the time, but I definitely make do.
When Spring/Summer hits though, I barely play anything as I want to be outside. Summer in Michigan is a thing to treasure so I try to be outside during it as much as possible.

It's inevitable, someone always brings this up, but what exactly are people doing outside at 10pm on a worknight in the summer?

I go through phases. One week I will be focused on movies and clearing the unwatched pile, the next I'm on games. Sometimes I can multi task, and play PS3, while watching DVD on the PC. Oh I miss college

I try to squeeze an hour or so in after work a couple of nights a week, and then an hour or two on Saturday or Sunday afternoon, but with work, gf, gym, and volunteer commitments it can be tough.

Re: Finding time for video games
My wife is a nurse so she has to work some weekends and 2x a week she works till 8pm. That gives me enough opportunities to game. Plus winter is something to despise in Chicago, so I prefer not to leave the couch if possible

Anyway, I'm primarily a portable gamer, so I play my DS while I wait for things. Then after I've gotten the kid to bed I'll play as a way to relax. I don't schedule anything, I just go with the flow.

I don't have a whole lot of time, which is why I don't purchase a lot of games and get into the trap of owning a bunch of games that haven't been touched. I work til about 7, and these days I'm busy watching a Laker basketball game or a TV show first, and after that I try to either get in a movie or something that I've been needing to catch up on or a little bit of gaming before sleep.
I'm usually out on weekends as well catching movies at the theater, or watching a football game or something. So even then I only get a little bit of time in.

Re: Finding time for video games
I'm slightly burned out after the explosion of games in the last 3 months, but I still manage to get some gaming in almost every day.
My normal routine is probably at least 1-2 hours a day, although if I'm really into playing a game that can climb to like 4-6. No kids, I stay up till like 3AM usually, and I don't go "out". So there's a lot of time to fill with gaming in my life. (Also I'm totally lucky and married to a gal who is perfectly at peace with me playing games.)

Yeah, when I was single I used to drink very often during work nights. I guess that's kinda normal if you are single living with friends and have a good work.
But now, married and with kids, sometimes is harder to find some time to play videogames. You have to make a lot of trade offs. Watch less TV, don't read the book you want to read... and of course sleep less hours.
