It took a few days to iron out the kinks (and allow the coupon to work on PSN cards), but now the daisy-chain deal is live. I stopped by Big K this morning and using the $20 coupon from StarCraft II last week, picked up my first $20 card for free, then the rest for $10. Final tally : $140 in PSN credit + $10 PS3 coupon for $60 + coupons. Excellent deal!

As an aside, (I'm sure you're aware because you bought at right under the limit) the limit as to how much you can have in your PSN wallet is $150, and the cards expire after a year if you don't use them, so don't go too crazy buying them. Which also reminds me, I better use mine ASAP before I forget.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

Actually, I wasn't aware of that at all. Thanks for the info. I shouldn't have too much trouble burning through $140 in a year. Will start this afternoon with the PSN sale, new Zen Pinball table and the Marvel costumes for LBP.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

Is there even $150 worth of games worth owning on PSN?

Spoiler:

I guess you could build a helluva Rock Band library with that scratch.

Wait the cards expire after a year? Or the card value put into your wallet expires?

I never heard of this before. Do you have an official link or anything for that?

I was at Kmart today. They were completely out of $20 PSN cards, and the $50 cards that they did have were under lock and key. Wondering if they were like that before, or if they made the decision to lock them down after they realized people were abusing the sale.

There's some power saver sale going on at gamestop. I just picked up a sealed new copy of Batman: Arkham Asylum for $20.

Over on CAG the guys who enable these deals for Kmart posts regularly. They actually intentionally allowed the chaining (to comply with the wording on the ad), though there are many, many reports of people having difficulty with kmart stores. So it's not abuse, in this case.

There have actually been a number of Kmart game sales that have been decent (and a bunch of stuff coming up on 8/8) but really, the barrier is the store itself, which is sad, because the videogame guys are really trying.

The cards expire in a year, I think it says so on the card itself. As for the 150 limit, that's being passed around CAG, I've never personally had that much credit before.

It's miracle that he found a sealed copy at Gamestop.

It may not be abuse by the letter of the sale, but IMHO it's abuse of the spirit of the sale try to use it to walk out with every card in the store. If they wrote it with the intention of allowing someone to clean them out of all their cards, why wouldn't they just say buy one, get the rest half off, instead of making you do them all as seperate transactions. If a store wants to stop you from cleaning them out like that, to me, it's completely within their right.

FYI, the reason why I suspect that the PSN cards at this particular store were locked down specifically because of this sale, is because they were right next to XBL cards, which were not locked down. Also, I really can't think of any other reason to lock down an item that has no cash value until activated. I'm guessing they locked them down so that when they come to get them, they can tell you that they won't give you more than one.

EDIT: One more note. My post was not meant condemn Decker, or anyone who took advantage of the deal for that matter. By terming it "abuse" I just meant to say that I highly doubt that this is what Kmart as a corporation intended when this sale was approved, as I don't see how selling all of their PSN cards to one guy at half price really does much for their bottom line.

Honestly, they were probably just thrilled anyone was intentionally entering a K-Mart.

I'm more interested about the deal in the other side of Tijuana.

Any comments about that?

Hey, I agree with you (and I even told the guy on the CAG thread the same thing). The Kmarts here are wiped out. But this is not a "mistake" on Kmarts part, where the way the coupon is registered in the system is incorrect. This was actually enabled on Tuesday after not working that way on Sunday/Monday.

But who knows with Kmart? It's sad, because the game guys are doing a ton of promotions to get people in the store, and 90% of that CAG thread are people complaining because the store either doesn't understand how to stock things or have some other problems. These are people who know exactly what they want, and they come into all varieties of Kmart stores and can't give them money, week after week.

I agree. Arkham Asylum isn't even on the same level as GTA IV.

GTA IV has much more replay value though.
