Yep, it's easily worth $5. Even $20.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

After renting DNF from Redbox and putting a few hours into it, I would not recommend it at any price.

I think the game is worth it at that price, if for nothing else than to see how bad it is.

By that logic, it's worth drinking bleach just to see how much it hurts.

Fact: I concur it's worth at least $5. But here is the test. If you like old school 1st person shooters like Duke 3d, like Doom, Quake, Heretic (wow, that brings back memories), etc...it's certainly worth it.

However, if you expect your 1st person shooters to have an elaborate cover system, be extremely pretty, have thousands of people online and clans, then go back to Call of Duty and Battlefield.

That's really what it boils down to. I spent 100's of hours playing the games I mentioned above, it is only second nature that I appreciate some of what DNF had to offer. Could it have been a better game? Sure...of course. But it is worth more than 5 bucks.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

I enjoy Doom, Quake, Heretic, Hexen, Rise of the Triad, Wolfenstein, etc. DN3D was fun in DM, but not in campaign. Duke never did it for me.

I think I'll spend my $5 on a worthy "old school" update and pick up Serious Sam 3.

I don't even like Serious Sam, but you chose wisely.

I grew up on games like Wolf 3D, Doom, Quake, and Duke 3D, and I still hated DNF. I can't think of a single redeeming quality about it. Obviously others have differing opinions, but I can only tell you what I thought of it. If you HAVE to buy it, at least $5 is not a lot of money.

For those with gamestop credit to burn, Duke is $9 used there and there is a B2G1 free going on right now. If you have a few different national chains that take trade ins other than GS, you might find it worth your while to trade Duke to such places too

Edit to add: And Hunted is $13 used at GS and Metroid: Other M is $9 used.

In-store only now, at least the 360 version.

In my cart, trying to resist. The deal addict hoarder in me can barely resist clicking "buy", but the packing mover part of me that just boxed up 100 unplayed games is winning the battle so far.

There is, actually. You're just playing the multiplayer game but with the absolute worst AI bots ever.

I'm totally with you. My stack of unplayed games is ridiculous. Trying to limit myself to games rated 80 or above.

Must resist. The thing is I have a stack of games (8-10) that were all in the $10 range, I put up on Half.com unopened not too long due to this same thing. They would show up in Best Buy, Amazon for these bottom barrel prices and I would bite. I bought Beowulf for $5on Best Buy clearance. Beof'ing wulf. It never got played and is now up on Half for $7.99 (which would be kinda funny if it sold). But other games like Prince of Persia, Dark Sector, Dead to Rights, etc..the same bloody thing.

Yet...I'm still looking at Brink. *sigh* and I KNOW...if I go near a Bestbuy today I would pick it up.

Prince of Persia is solid, both the 2008 game and the Forgotten Sands. You should have played through before dumping it.

I was in the midst of getting rid of things. It is still up on Half.com, I have it up there for $10 right now. I could pull it back, but those 8-10 I put up were the tip of the iceberg. I still have plenty to choose from and play. So is POP solid, I'm not disagreeing at all. But I need to start making hard decisions about buying all of these games simply because they were cheap.

And after the holidays and it possibly has not sold, I might open it after all .

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

Depends, are you into the PoP games, or traversal type games at all? The fighting and action are pretty rudimentary in both games, but the platforming is excellent.
