Could be... could be... I guess it will depend on the matchup and how hardcore this crowd is. I think I drafted a pretty strong bunch. I think Bomberman, F-Zero and PoP are my weak links though. Could have gone more hardcore in those rounds.

You aren't voting for a game, but rather a collection of games. I could easily vote for a list of critically acclaimed games I have never played over a list of mediocre games I have.

True, but I don't think anyone here has a list of mediocre games whether you've played them or not. Everyone has a good mix of popular and or critically acclaimed games. We'd have to go a few more rounds or open it up to more than 16 players to get to the mediocrity.

But... everyone votes different.

There are lot of old school games I've forgotten or never played. Most of my good memories are from the last 10 years. So I'll vote accordingly.

That is how I was approaching it based on my drafting and understanding.

I could have easily picked more common type games from the recent few years to get more votes, but I didn't think that was what this was about. I picked a collection of games I felt were strong and that I happened to play that represented a number of genre and from a number of systems.

I do feel those of us that hadn't played before were kinda rushed into it. The thread was posted and a couple hours later we were off to the races. It would have been nice to see the thread from before to see how things went.

Mattysemo247
jdpatri
Here's my reasoning:

Spoiler:

DVDChris over Fandango because I haven't played a bunch of the games on Fandango's list.

Corvin barely over Spainlinx0. Both had solid, solid lists. Castlevania SOTN, Mega Man 3, Contra, and Warioware twisted were some of my favorite games. However, Corvin had Mario Galaxy, Rock Band 2, Mega Man 2, and Eternal Darkness...all games I've spent hours upon hours invested in. So I had to go with Corvin.

Groucho over edstein, because I felt that edstein's list had way too many games that come out on all platforms. Tony Hawk, SSX, COD were all good, but I think Super Mario Bros 3, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, and Geometry Wars sealed the deal for me.

Jeremy over The Bus. This was another tough choice for me. But I ended up going with Jeremy's because of all the time I spent playing Zelda OOT, Final Fantasy 3, and the awesome variety in the other games he chose. The Bus had Mario Kart 64 which I loved, but some of the other games I was simply unfamiliar with...Fallout 3, Jet Set Radio, Garou, PixelJunk Monsters.

Orangecrush over Lordwow. This was anothr tough one. I ended up going with Orangecrush because I've played more off the games on his list. Lordwow had awesome games too with Super Mario World, RE4, Rogue Squadron 2, and Portal.

Vryce over JasonF was another tough choice. I've played about half the games on each list. I liked all the nostalgia in Vryce's list better, plus I've played the games in his list for longer periods of time. Bioshock was my favorite game last year, so it was tough to count Jason's list out.

Mattysemo247 over cruzness mainly for the variety in Mattysemo's list. cruzness' list seems VERY shooter/3rd person action heavy.

jdpatri over raul3 because jdpatri's list has a lot more old school games which still hold up in my opinion. Raul3 has a few games which I'm still unsure if we'll still be raving about them in 5-10 years from now...uncharted, left 4 dead, crackdown. Although Halo, GTA:VC and Street Fighter 2 are just awesome games.

Here are my votes:

1. DVDChris

2. Michael Corvin

3. Edstein

4. Jeremy517

5. Orangecrush18

6. Vryce

7. Mattysemo247

8. Raul3

And here is the explanation:

Spoiler:
DVDChris vs. Fandango – DVDChris had a great variety of different games. Fandango was a little RPG heavy (and most of the games I haven’t had a chance to play)

Michael Corvin vs. Spainlinx0 – Corvin has a lot of recent classics on his list (POP, SMG, and ED) that I can definitely relate to, I thought SpainlinxO was a little to Nintendo heavy (7 out of 10) and no current gen games

Edstein vs. Groucho – Edstein had one of my fav lists here. With games like GTAIV, GOW, COD2, and representing the SSX series. Groucho had some oldies but definitely goodies as well.

The Bus vs. Jeremy517 – This one was a hard pick for me. Both had great lists and a wide variety. Jeremy517 had the edge because of GOW2 & GTA:SA. Bus, I loved your pick for PixelJunk Monsters. That one totally slipped my mind.

Lordwow vs. Orangecrush18 – This one was easy for me because it’s the only list of the group that has a complete list of games I have played. Sorry Lordwow (love your ZAMN & Portal pics though)

Vryce vs. JasonF – This one was another difficult one for me. JasonF had a solid list (BS, GOW, MGS2) but Vryce had a very unique list. And I absolutely love Ico & SOTC. And with one of the best FPS of all time (COD4), gave him the edge.

Raul3 vs. jdpatri – Both had great lists here with a ton of variety, but Raul3 ultimately won my vote for Halo & Uncharted

I probably would have drafted different then.
If it's a popularity contest I don't understand why you're not winning

2 RPGs counts as RPG heavy? really? What I don't like are the people that are picking lists based on one game, why draft 10 games then?

The part about people not playing more of my games.

A couple people voting have said while my picks are well received in general, they ahven't played them and could not vote.

So, popularity might not be the right word, but I was not sure what word to use.

Maybe it's better we didn't explain our votes.

Nah.. at least for me, I'd rather know why I'm losing , per se. Then just have a bunch of votes with no explanation either way.

Well the original Zelda is probably my favorite game ever, so it alone won you my vote in this round. So don't feel TOO bad about picking it early.

Well, nobody is analyzing every match for 30 minutes, maybe The Bus, most of the people may be taking less than 1 minute , even less than 20 seconds, with every match.

And I in some, most?, cases there are a lot of games that we haven't played so we picked based on the games we played.

Well if they are they shouldn't being that this draft took 2 weeks. I think it deserves more consideration for the time spent on it.

I’m guessing you were talking about my response. Sorry, I might have been incorrect on a couple of the titles since I didn’t play the games (Ikaruga & Gunstar Heroes). I thought they were RPG’s. But either way, it didn’t really sway my vote. It was not having any FPS or racing games (Mario Kart doesn’t really count as a solid racing game in my book).

I wouldn't get worked up about it. Some of us drafted to win. Some of drafted a list of our own personal favorites. Some of us drafted to show representation to less-known titles.

What I meant, and probably didn't say clearly enough, was that MM is my favorite Zelda game. Since hardly anyone else feels that way, I wouldn't expect it to be picked early or before the one that you did choose. I was just saying that if it had been on your list instead, I would have voted for your list. I did not mean to imply that you made a mistake by putting the first one on your list instead.

I did think that you could have had it a few rounds later, but I didn't use that as a factor in my decision at all. Like you said, you made sure you got a game you wanted, and there is nothing wrong with that.
