Video Game Draft - Voting for Round 1

Could be... could be... I guess it will depend on the matchup and how hardcore this crowd is. I think I drafted a pretty strong bunch. I think Bomberman, F-Zero and PoP are my weak links though. Could have gone more hardcore in those rounds.

True, but I don't think anyone here has a list of mediocre games whether you've played them or not. Everyone has a good mix of popular and or critically acclaimed games. We'd have to go a few more rounds or open it up to more than 16 players to get to the mediocrity.

There are lot of old school games I've forgotten or never played. Most of my good memories are from the last 10 years. So I'll vote accordingly.

I could have easily picked more common type games from the recent few years to get more votes, but I didn't think that was what this was about. I picked a collection of games I felt were strong and that I happened to play that represented a number of genre and from a number of systems.

I do feel those of us that hadn't played before were kinda rushed into it. The thread was posted and a couple hours later we were off to the races. It would have been nice to see the thread from before to see how things went.

So, in the end the voting is really coming down to more of a popularity contest then anything. Theoretically, someone could draft the 10 best games ever made, but if enough people haven't played them, they are going to lose their matchups in the voting to lists that have more commonly accessible/played games?
I probably would have drafted different then.

The part about people not playing more of my games.
A couple people voting have said while my picks are well received in general, they ahven't played them and could not vote.
So, popularity might not be the right word, but I was not sure what word to use.

Maybe it's better we didn't explain our votes.

Well, nobody is analyzing every match for 30 minutes, maybe The Bus, most of the people may be taking less than 1 minute , even less than 20 seconds, with every match.
And I in some, most?, cases there are a lot of games that we haven't played so we picked based on the games we played.

I’m guessing you were talking about my response. Sorry, I might have been incorrect on a couple of the titles since I didn’t play the games (Ikaruga & Gunstar Heroes). I thought they were RPG’s. But either way, it didn’t really sway my vote. It was not having any FPS or racing games (Mario Kart doesn’t really count as a solid racing game in my book).

I wouldn't get worked up about it. Some of us drafted to win. Some of drafted a list of our own personal favorites. Some of us drafted to show representation to less-known titles.

I did think that you could have had it a few rounds later, but I didn't use that as a factor in my decision at all. Like you said, you made sure you got a game you wanted, and there is nothing wrong with that.
