From PS3fanboy:
Yawn. I can see development isn't going in any direction I'm interested in.
I might just join L&O by removing it. Maybe I'll check it out again in 6-8 months.
Sony kept saying it, but we finally understand what they meant when they said that Home would be expanded "based on consumer feedback." A SCEE community manager, MusterBuster, started a thread on the European PlayStation forums, trying to figure out why people were congregating around the PSP-3000 adverts all the time. After learning that people enjoy dancing to the advert's music the thread quickly evolved into a discussion of how best to deliver more music to Home users.
Suggestions came in many forms, such as a jukebox (as can be found in the US Home Plaza), downloadable podcasts, or a live radio show. The latter seemed to elicit the biggest response, with suggestions including live DJs, gaming news segments and "PSN in" (rather than "phone in") competitions. We'd like to think that all of these ideas are now being discussed internally at SCEE. Hopefully we'll see something come of the discussion relatively soon (though, setting up a radio show won't happen overnight).

I'm not really sure what people expect from home and I'm certain that in no way will Sony ever reach the expectations of some on here. Should you have to buy groceries, be able to whip out a gun and shoot people in the plaza, do magic tricks on annoying people in the bowling alley, etc? I am a bit disappointed in what is available so far but at the same time at least the framework is there for improvement. And at least they are brainstorming to find new ideas that a chunk of people are interested in.

My main complaint is that I don't see the point of it. I have no interest in meeting strangers in a virtual world, so there's really nothing there for me. I'm sure some will enjoy it, but I could probably never launch Home again and be perfectly okay with that.

I understand that. I don't see the point in a lot of titles that are released but I'm not in those threads bashing them because I feel that the titles are worthless. It seems that now that Sony has their application out some people just want to rip it apart as if it was supposed to be the release of the year and they just got shilled for their dough. It is what it is. I enjoy being able to go in there and meet up with my friends (both real friends and fellow gamers) and shoot the shit while playing pool or bowling. It beats the hell out of holding the phone to your ear while staring off into space. As I said earlier I believe that the framework is there. As long as the developers continue their efforts to improve it many users will find it to have accomplished what Sony set out for in the first place.

I agree. Sony did oversell this, and now they appear to have underdelivered. I'm sure it will improve over time, but it's hardly the revolutionary product that they initially promised. It's a pretty no-frills visual chat room, something that's certainly been done before.

Sony's hype machine spun this WAY to high, way to long ago, and as Gramps and others have said - underdelivered. Bigtime. Naturally - this is all my opinion - as others on the service the first night I tried it out who I asked said it was the bees knees. Just not for me.

Shooting the shit would be awesome, if they didn't limit the number of players allowed to play pool. Is it really that hard to create a slew of instances of pool or bowling or single player arcade games? No - it's not. Instead we get to stand there and wait if what we wanted to do was meet up and play some pool. Yes, it's beta and that hopefully will be addressed - but I won't bother trying it in the future.

Both direct quotes I encountered my first night in Home.

Yeah, I scraped it from my hard drive yesterday as well.
I'd be willing to reconsider once I can create a user-designed space with a pool table, jukebox that streamed from my hard drive/media hub, and easily accessible arcade machines of decent games. For now, I'm not all that interested in paying a buck for a turtleneck just so I'll look good while waiting for a sub-par bowling game. Once I can throw together a digital "party" where we'd actually have stuff to do other than dancing with each other, then I'll let Home take my 3077mb again.

I just want more opportunities to earn items. That will keep me using Home. Decent stuff in the theater wouldn't hurt either. Why they have a trailer for a movie for tweener girls is beyond me? Is the PS3 big with the tweener girl market?

if anything it was fanboy hype/expectations fueled by what little info Sony ever gave
HOME has never been a key selling point of the PS3 .... is it even mentioned on their packaging?
prove me wrong and show me all this supposed hype that came via Sony

I agree. My biggest complaint is that there are not large enough areas to allow users to interact with games and groups. More bowling alleys, arcade games and pool tables and would be a start. However I do enjoy getting together with gamers (who I am usually too busy gaming with) and just shooting the breeze. Sony definitely needs to work on it and deliver on the improvements and promises and for God's sake stop nickle and diming for extra content to customize avatars and apartments. I can understand if they want to charge for upgraded living spaces or licensed apparel, but charging for different furnishings or more plain clothes is just infuriating. Especially since the stuff you are sssssooooooooo limited with the initial options for your avatar.

I do love the marketing people on this though.
Because there is not much to do at this point in the game and because you have to wait in line to bowl, or play pool, etc.
People decided to gather in an open spot in the plaza and just dance near music. Sony takes this as "Hey, people really like this, lets focus on it."
That might be partly the reason, but how about looking at the fact that there really is nothing else to do, so that people are going to do whatever they can.
