I'd rather have uniformity with my cases but I may youtube some vids of Call of Duty 1. I didn't pick up the series til the 2nd...and after playing 4 and 5...it was hard for me to go back to COD2 (no running, no knife). I think that may translate as well to 1.

Yes, but with spruced-up graphics and online multiplayer.
I might add that IGN and Joystiq are reporting that CoD Classic is comming "eventually" to XBLA and PSN, but that it won't be available initally when those with Hardened and Presitge get their copies, so that might be a factor for some.
The game that started it all… Call of Duty: Classic, the remake of the original Call of Duty, hits Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this November and comes free with both the Hardened and Prestige editions of Modern Warfare 2.
New information states that the game has been rescaled in HD, with improved visuals. Additionally, online multiplayer is present with a variety of modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Retrieval, Headquarters, Search & Destroy and Behind Enemy Lines, and will support 8 players.

COD1 is probably my favorite shooter of all time. Certainly, the series has improved but the original is still a great game. The console version ("Finest Hour") was okay, but not nearly as immersive or fun.

I didn't have XFire at the time, but I imagine if I were to have kept track of the # of hours played, I played COD1 online more than COD4 online back in the day. It was just superb.

Nothing like zombies yet, though I don't know what opens up when you beat the campaign.
BUT, what you get right off the bat is more than generous. In the main menu, you're treated to three main options (with some room for a possible 4th or 5th).
The option in the center takes to the single player campaign, on the right is the standard multiplayer and on the left is the Spec-Ops co-op missions.
I was really pleasantly surprised by the Spec-Ops, mostly because I wasn't expecting anything. Spec-ops is an entirely separate game - it's not some last-minute, thrown-in section or basic add-on - it's a very well thought out 2 player co-op masterpiece. I've only dipped my toe into it and was amazed by the design, detail and diversity. The variety of the set pieces is really impressive. I played with a friend of mine for less than 30 minutes and we played 3 different game types: (CoD version of Firefight, CoD version of Terrorist Hunt, CoD CO-OP mission complete with triggered events. One awesome part:
We played 3 of what is probably 30+ missions on normal. Barely touched the surface. The missions in the Spec-ops seemed to take place in environments based on the ones found in the single-player game, but the actual missions seemed pretty different. Provided you find a friend to play with, I predict this mode will steal the show.
BTW, I also played through that "controversial" segment of the game - it comes really early, it's only the 3rd mission. And while you have a choice of to shoot or not, as was reported, the segment is so well-done that it's quite horrifying and probably the most disturbing piece of video game I've played yet - more so than any Silent Hill or Resident Evil. As the game boots, you do get a choice if you want the game to skip that segment for you. And while I thought it was a good choice to let the player do what they wanted with the civilians,
.
Should be good fodder for discussion.

picked this up from a mom and pop this afternoon as well.
The game not only looks better than previous titles, it actually seems to be running better as well. Good times.

If you are lucky enough to get this game early i would suggest NOT playing online...if you go on the forums at xbox.com there are pages of people getting banned by microsoft for playing online.

well, they downrezed the game so it's not even running at 720p. I think it's something like 680p or so.

Ah that's weird, case says up through 1080p. Looks good on the 106" though.
The "realistic blood splatter" effect when you get shot is actually kind of disturbing

Which I should point out that this is probably the toughest CoD yet. But not in a good way. You got your constantly spawning enemies just like all the others, but they seem to be spawning all around you. You cleared that room behind you? Doesn't matter, here comes some enemy, magically appearing out of nowhere, shooting at you from behind you. You want monster-closets? You got monster-closets! Lots of them!! As a bonus you even get monster closets out of thin air!
This game is fun and epic as all hell, but it can also get pretty annoying, more so than previous installments.

No co-op for the main story, but there is one difficulty setting that's easier than the one I'm on (and two that are harder), which might make it bearable for you. I can't imagine this game on veteran.

) was $18. So for the extra $3, you get a nicer case and an art book.
I guess it's worth that, especially to avoid Mr Eco-Friendly packaging.
