I got the bundle Sunday at midnight too. I already had the game and was playing the game using the Les Paul from GHIII, but for that price...
So I had the chance to play the drums, finally!, a little bit yesterday and I suck. I suck really really bad. I was playing on easy and I just feel awkward, it doesn't feel natural. When I started played guitar, even on easy I felt like I was a rock star :P, like a was rocking, having a lot of fun! With the drums, I'm just not enjoying playing. I just played one hour, tried some tutorials and then played 3 songs, all of them on easy. Maybe I should try medium or hard... :p Of course the advice I've received from friends is that you have to practice, practice a lot. We'll see... |

Perhaps not really funny, but it amused me a bit. |

I really believe that those of you who have never played drums before in your life have the advantage playing this game. I've played drums for almost 33 years now and I found myself trying to play the songs as I would as if I were playing the drums (that's my excuse).
And on the Rush songs, I couldn't even make it thru the songs even though I've played those songs on the drums 100's of times. Chris Unlike guitar, drums and vocals more accurately reproduce the real experience and you hurt yourself by playing below your actual skill. |
Is there a trick to opening the little tab that secures the drum stand rods? I had a hell of a time opening them and then I closed them and the height was wrong so I'm trying to open them again. One down, one to go. But it takes me about 10 minutes to open both and I have to wrap a shirt around my hands so that it doesn't hurt so much. It can't be that hard to open them, can it?
First drum song I 4-starred it and 82%, but the drums were covering the bottom of the game. |
You could gently use a flat tip screwdriver...
|
I thought about using scissors but I really don't want to scratch it (not opened scissors... closed and just using the tip).
Got them opened and I think I'm going to leave them that way. How do you guys hold the sticks? I tried holding them like a pen and it didn't work too well. Grabbing around them with an extended index finger seems to work better. This is hard work! The guitar is cake by comparison. I don't think I'll be doing much drums. My arms are just killing me after five songs. I four-starred 3 of them and 3-starred two of them. I think I'm sticking to guitar and singing (I ended up using KR's mic). I can see the drums gathering dust. Maybe I just need to start doing some weights :D |

Spoiler:
I also use some anti-vibe sticks I bought at a local music store. I can't play more than a couple songs with the stock drums, as the vibrations cause the hairs on my arms to rub all over the place and cause a bunch of redness and itching. With the anti-vibe sticks, I can drum for hours with no problems. |

 Bigfoot sighting... confirmed!

I think I'm finally gonna have to bite on Rock Band 2 with Ten coming out.
|
PopcornTree call Toys R Us see if they have any bundles left... $109 + tax AND you get a $25 GC.
|
I know this has probably been asked and answered, but I just picked up the PS3 bundle on Sunday. My guitar is making a weird clicking noise from where the calibration mike is. It even does it with no batteries in it. Is this normal? I figured it had something to do with the calibration, but it's odd that it still does it without the batteries.

I was TERRIBLE at the drums my first few weeks of playing. I play the guitar on Expert, but I was struggling with drums on Easy. My wife sat down and was nailing Medium, and a friend of mine had moved on to Hard after playing it for one night with us. I'm a pretty musical person and have no problems dealing with complex rhythms as a singer...I just could get the hand-to-hand coordination going at first. Now I can easily play on Hard, and if I could do the pedal better, I could probably handle Expert too. I still need to get the RB2 drum set, but I'm trying to break my old one so the wife will let me upgrade :) It just took a little time and playing the songs that I liked over and over to figure out the way to do it. So don't lose hope! |
I find it much easier to play drums with headphones. Actually hearing the wood against the plastic/rubber kills my play.

Happy 'Country Band' Day!!! ;)
|
Just watched Npeaen's videos for this week...looks like a very solid 5-pack.
The Brad Paisley song in particular looks like a blast. Npeaen only got 81% on his first run through the Dixie Chicks song. |
I'm going to go and try them in a second. I'm scared. :( Sin Wagon looks even tougher than I thought, except where they thankfully charted steel guitar for a nice break.
|
An interesting note about this weeks country pack. At the end of Gunpowder And Lead (note this only works if you have a Goth attitude singer)

That's pretty freakin' awesome!
Also, vids and tiers are added to the DLC post. |
Wow. Now I'm middle of the road at best on guitar, so I have my struggles from time to time. But I squeaked out 4 stars on three songs, 5 stars on the chick shotgun revenge tune (on the last note), and somehow passed Sin Wagon with 3 stars and 81% while hanging on for dear life from go. Sin Wagon is one of those that plays even harder than it looks. This is one tough pack.
Very fun, though. I don't really like the shotgun song, but the rest were very good. |

I LOOOOVED the Country tracks!! I'll be buying EVERY country track they release, hopefully this week they sold big and they release more country.
One song that HAS to make it is Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy. That would be awesome to play. I four-starred two of them (on medium) and five-starred three of them (on easy). Really enjoyed them and worth every penny. I've played about 10-15 songs today, though, so off I go to actually try to accomplish something with my day today :D |
