If anyone finds a deal, let me know :D I want to buy the whole package.
Someone :lol:d at a commend I made that -eek- songs were $2 each. Anything I should know? I like the songs better in Lips than here... why don't they get more contemporary stuff? :( And more pop and country. |
Uh oh, Deb's on another spending spree.
As for the pricing thing, that was me. There was much debate over pricing starting with Guitar Hero II. GHII & GHIII had even higher pricing per song. Given that you get a vocal track, drum track, guitar & bass tracks, consensus is that $2 is quite reasonable especially since Rock Band was the first game to offer the tracks individually. As for song selection, between GH:WT, GHIII, Rock Band & even Lips, it seems you are going to get a wide range of songs. |
I only want to buy one, and it seems RB gives more bang for its buck. I like the song selection in Lips but it's only 40 songs. I wish they did a Lips song pack for RB.

Supposedly you will be able to hook up your iPod to Lips and sing any song you like. I'm not a singer so you will have to research that yourself.
|
The Lips iPod/Zune integration supposedly has scoring and pitch detection, but no lyrics. I'll have to read a couple reviews before I bite.
As for Rock Band not having enough "contemporary" songs, it's called Rock Band, ya know! Not Pop Band or Ballad Band! If you want Top 40 hits from contemporary artists or soft rock, then you'd probably be better off with Lips or Karaoke Revolution: American Idol. Lips is supposed to have some DLC available, but I don't know what as of yet. |
KR:AI actually looks perfect for me! Just have one question - is there a mode to sing a song without being graded, just for fun?
Also, Wikipedia says "All downloadable songs below are from the previous series and will get imported to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore 2." Free or paying? Do you have to own the previous versions? Is all material from KR:AI 1 available in 2? Any reason to buy both instead of just #2? |
KR:AI is horrible. The DLC cost $1.50 each and all you can do is sing. Plus everything is a cover, there are no master recordings.
Stay far, far away. |
But I like the songs :D There a whole bunch of songs I really really like. With RB I would be singing them just because they're there, with AI I would be enjoying singing them. I'm not really into Rock, I'm more into pop and Top 40s. Plus if you're the one singing the songs does it really matter much that they're covers? ;) I'd get Rockband 2 in a couple of years when the whole thing is $100 or so but in the meantime I know I'd get a lot of enjoyment out of AI.
|
If you turn off the game's vocal track, you might save your sanity.
I'm going to pray for you. |

Stay far, far away. After playing RB and deciding to give the KR series a go, I was shocked how terrible it is. Waste of money... |

Also, today is a very special day!
Today marks the 1 year anniversary of the Rock Band platform! I expect this week's DLC announcement to be pretty large because of it. I wouldn't be surprised if we got the next album (maybe No Doubt Best-Of) and/or maybe some artists that haven't been revisited since 11/20 of last year. http://namechange.mst.edu/birthday-cake.gif |
 No Doubt and Rolling Stones confirmed by Shagrath! Along with The Killers it's going to be an epic week, ... no doubt ...

I could be absolutely wrong. |
I'm just giving you shit because you always seem to "guess" well. Like listening to Mission of Burma a few weeks ago. Say, that reminds me, you never responded to my asking what you've been listening to over the last few weeks ;) |

I guess I might as well set the computer and just buy a good $20 wireless computer mic :) |
From Purkeynator at CAG's brother who is a GameStop manager. Here's a decent BF deal on a RB2 bundle if you're on the fence or going to pick it up for someone:
buy Rockband 2 bundle (any version) and get track pack 2 for 99 cents That gets you the game + wireless guitar + wireless drums + microphone and 124 songs total (84 on disc + 20 free download + 20 track pack 2 download/export). |
GatorDeb,
I've owned every single Karaoke Revolution game and I think you will enjoy it. Harmonix originally created this game so the singing is just like the singing part in Rock Band, although Rock Band is the next step up. All songs ARE covers, and yes you can just sing without being scored or anything in the game. If you get the new American Idol Encore 2 game, it's rumored they'll put all the Encore 1 songs as DLC for $1.50 each. All the songs available are just songs from previous KR games. Let me know if you have any other questions. |
Thanks for the answers, awesome :)
All the songs available being from previous KR games - that means that when I load it up it will automatically download for free all songs from previous KR games? And if I buy the Encore 1, can I import the songs into 2? Because the 1 bundle is $30 and it has 40 songs, so that's half price with an extra mic. |
No, what he's saying is that eventually the KR:AI disc songs will be added to the DLC library for KR:AI2, but at $1.50 a piece. 40 x $1.50 = $60.
You won't be able to export the disc songs either. I got KR:AI on clearance at Target in the summer for $25 - $10 any X360 game coupon ;) If my girls didn't like it, I'd be willing to send it your way, but I'm stuck with it. |
"All the songs available are just songs from previous KR games."
Does that mean that non AI KR songs are downloaded for free, or do they have a cost also? |
Nothing is free. He means that all the DLC for KR:AI is just songs that appeared on previous KR games. They're nothing "new".
As to not derail this thread any further, let's take the non-RB talk to the general music game thread: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/video-game-...ution-etc.html Might get some other people's opinions that don't necessarily stick to this thread. |
Played the Dead Kennedys and Mission of Burma tracks (except for Mica) last night. Lots of fun and challenge on the drums! The Lacuna Coil tracks are much easier, but I love the sound of Closer in particular.
|
Yeah, what pinata said.
