Having fun with this. Started Beyond Oasis and played quite a bit of the Streets of Rage games with my son. Lots of stuff I meant to pick up on the Virtual Console, but I'm glad I waited considering the fairly solid emulation (sound in a few games being rough is all I have noticed for the most part) and very low price.

Played and finished sonic 1. I can definitely see a difference in the clarity of the graphics. Sound is good as well. The only problem i had was with the framerate seemed to drop and made the game appear to slowdown in some parts. Other than that the game Emulation on this is the best I've seen.

And for those of you that have the ps3 version and dont have a second controller to unlock phantasy star:

I heard that you can plug in a pc gamepad and it'll work as a second controller. You need to finish the first boss in Sonic 2 with a second player in order to unlock phantasy star. Will test this out tomorrow and see if it works.

It may not necessarily be the emulation that causes slowdown. Some games just have slowdown from time to time. I remember in Sonic, for instance, when you got hit, if you had a lot of rings the game would slow down.

Are the graphics really any better? I bet it's because we're not using noisy RF/composite connections these days.

It's not so much that they are better... they are just crystal clear. Very pleasing to the eyes.

The Sega X-Men and Mickey Mouse Castle/World of Illusion games would have been nice. Moonwalker too.

Unlocking phantasy star on ps3

Okay so I plugged in my pc controller in usb slot #2 on the ps3 and it recognized it. So if you dont have an extra ps3 controller you can use a pc one to unlock phantasy star. This is the controller i used:

I swear, if this had Gunstar Heroes I would've bought it already. I'm almost tempted to hook up my Sega CDX system so I can play it.

So if I don't have a second controller (PS3 or PC) I don't get to play the Phantasy Star games from the beginning? For starters, the fourth one should be the unlockable game, not the first; secondly, I'd be okay with having to beat a certain level or reach a score to gain access to another title, but having to buy an accessory in order to do so is complete bullshit. I was planning to pick this up today since I've never played any of the Phantasy Star series (except PSO on the Dreamcast), but probably not now.

Actually the first one is a Sega Master System game so it should be the locked one. The Genesis content on this game is all open and the arcade and SMS stuff is locked. Second, have you played the original recently? I can't believe in 2009 anyone would have the patience to play it again. You have to use pen and paper to map all of your dungeons and the difficulty on the original is very high. I'm looking forward to playing II and IV when I get time, but no way I would even bother with the first one.

This collection is worth $30 Phantasy Star 1 or not. I agree though that requiring a second controller to unlock content is a bit unfair, but so is forcing me to play god awful games like Flicky to unlock Fantasy Zone. I doubt I ever get that unlocked.

Since you have the ps3 version, wait a few days and someone will have the save file that unlocks everything. They can usually be found on Gamefaqs website.

This was a ridiculously easy 1000. Now at least I can enjoy PS 1-4 and Beyond Oasis in leisure.

They drop super fast and I've never liked the Puyo Puyo games to begin with. I have yet to even last 2 minutes before losing.

The rest are pretty manageable and thankfully you don't need to beat DRMBM to unlock anything on the disc.
It's all about combos. Just be diligent in making chains of 3 and don't make any chains disappear for a while, maybe 1/3 - 1/2 way up the screen. Then knock something out that will drop a bunch and watch the fireworks. It wasn't too hard.

I got the trophy finally. I just didn't like the game or the controls at first, but got the hang of it enough to get the 80,000. I still have a few trophies left to do but everything on the disc is unlocked. Thanks for the tip on Dr Robotnic pinata242. I'll give it another run through at some point.

I would also mention how great the save states are in this one. You can set 3 and it really helps having a quick save option.

Is it not copy protected? Someone on another forum thought that we'd have to get used to copy protected saves, now that they're making trophies mandatory. I disagreed, since the trophies aren't stored with the saves (or so I thought).

That would suck if you couldn't download save files anymore. I had bought the ps3 version of oblivion but had already sunk quite a few hour into the 360 version. I didn't feel like level grinding again so i just downloaded the save file that started my character out at lvl50.

After going to two Targets, a Best Buy and a K-Mart, I finally found this game at a Video Games, Etc.

I'm pretty sure my Best Buy has received their shipments, but they have that new system where they have display-only cases on the floor, so someone is probably too lazy to make a few for this game.

Re: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for Xbox 360 and PS3

Dr Robotinic is my only remaining trophy. I'm just not getting it though. Things drop too fast for me to set up anything at all. I start to get going and I get a bunch of junk dropped on me and I'm dead. I have played Puyo Puyo a few times over the years, but I just never have gotten it. I may try it again at some point, but for now I'm skipping the Platinum. I'd rather play the other games on here for fun and forget the trophy hunting now.

Now to find time to play through the RPGs again. It has been a long time since I played Shining Force I & II and I really want to start them up again, but I'm still finishing Luminous Arc 2 with the new DS Fire Emblem on the way. Hard to find time for all these tactical RPGs.

100,000 points in altered beast? before the dude who throws his heads at you? How? I tried for 4 minutes and got fed up.

Man, games were a lot more unforgiving back then, weren't they?

Sounds like it's after you beat the boss:

Just finish the first level, making sure to kill all the wolves that give you power-ups, and collect the power ups and you should get 100,000 points just for beating the boss at the end of the level.
