That is the first thing I thought of when I heard about this. If they don't give us an option to preserve the look of the games, I don't want it.

I'm a bit worried about the so called update to HD. Considering how much money and time Street Fighter HD has taken I can't possibly imagine that they've done a full update to all these different games. So therefore, it must surely just be some filters or something over the original graphics. Anyway, I'll wait and see.

As for the list of games, pretty damn awesome.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it's going to be. There's no chance it will be like what they're doing with Street Fighter, which is an entirely different beast.

That said, i've never had a problem with the filtering in other "ports" so I'd be fine.

Kind of disappointed that Landstalker is not on the list, I had a blast playing that game on the Genesis. Still I'll be getting it cause it has both Shining Force games on it.

Where's the Sega CD games? Ground Zero Texas? Tomcat Alley? What about the Genesis games I played back in the day like Starflight, and Warsong?

I believe these are all Sega games. Starflight and Warsong were third-party games. Starflight was from EA, for instance.

I don't know why CD games are never included in these, unless they just assume people don't want them. I wonder if there is some licensing issue with the live-action footage. Then again, I don't see a reason why Sonic CD couldn't be included.

Sega has confirmed that the filter can be turned off:

http://www.rpgsite.net/news/297.html
...a Sega PR representative confirmed that the filter which proved controversial with fans would be optional. "I’ve had confirmation that the filter can indeed be switched off," Martin Snelling of Sega UK told us. "And the games will display at whatever ratio your console is set at – 4:3 or 16:9. If playing in 16:9 the game will fit and not have black borders at the side."

Wow, now Starflight is a game I haven't thought about in ages. Fun game, loads of exploring/mining, etc. If it wasn't for the instruction 'guide' I wouldn't have ever been able to beat the friggin' thing though.

It says you can set it to 4:3, it's based on your console settings. Of course, it would be a hassle to change every time you want to play. I've found in buying a few of these compilations that it's always a good idea at the time but you end up not playing any of it.

It's just upscaling. It works well for movies, but it makes low-resolution games look blurry.

Re: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for Xbox 360 and PS3

I'm thinking about getting it this weekend. GamePro gave it a 90% and said basically it is what you expect it to be. Wishes a few neglected titles were included (Gunstar Heroes, Earthworm Jim). GamesRadar an 80% with similar pros/cons.

Achievements look to be an easy 1000 as well: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/g.../achievements/

In case no one has pointed it out yet, getting all these games on the Virtual Console would cost you upwards of $400.

I'm mostly curious if you can save mid game? The days of me devoting a few hours to a game are gone.

It's pretty flexible with the 16x9 and 4x3. You can make it 16x9, but it is somewhat stretched. However, you can use the directional pad to stretch or shrink the image horizontally and vertically to make it just how you want.
