I leveled two characters to about 18 but just kind of lost interest. I think after seeing Coruscant and the Sith homeworld I didn't really feel compelled to keep going to see any of the other locales.

I don't remember what level I made it to but I lost interest right after I got my ship.

I got it last month when Best Buy had it for $20. I stopped playing once my included month of game time ran out. I'm planning to go back to it in the fall once the FTP option is there. It seemed fun enough, but I really hate the idea of paying a monthly fee to play a single game.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I play this game nearly every day and I enjoy it. However, I mainly play alone (because I still do not have a character at level 50 to use in playing the "fun" stuff). I think there are a few problems with it: they waited too long to merge servers, each planet takes way too long, there is no need really to play with others (so it is essentially single-player), and the leveling takes too long to get to the point where you would need to play with others (at least for me, anyway).
I'll continue to play it because it is the first MMO I've played (in fact, the reason I had this computer built). But, I'll be really happy to no longer pay for it!

I am still enjoying the game, getting close to my first level 50
Some of the planets can be slow, that is when a change of character and scenery works for me. I'll stick with it.

The problems this game has that are causing it to have subscription problems are many. My thoughts:
1. At it's heart it still follows the WoW model as a MMORPG. Most WoW players aren't going to abandon their characters and guilds for a similar game, and people who haven't been interested in this style of game are unlikely to start now.
2. Because of fractured areas and heavy instancing, even heavily populated zones feel like they are dead and lifeless.
3. Even though it takes play on multiple planets, the game feels much much smaller than other games which take place on a single landmass.
4. Fully voiced cutscenes are neat, but become tiresome when you realize it's all window dressing for the usual "Fetch me X of Y" quests.
5. Flashpoints are good, but they interrupt the flow of the main game, as you have to stop whatever you're doing and shuttle to the fleet to participate.
6. Another problem with Flashpoints: if you're a new player or are playing through the story, expect to be flamed if you watch the cutscenes. It's very much a "gogogogogogogo" atmosphere in there.
7. Space battles are okay, but they also interrupt the main flow of what you're doing.
It will be interesting to see what the F2P model does for the game, if anything.

Thats crazy for the collector's edition. I'd hate to have been one of the people who paid hundreds of dollars for it before launch.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Old Republic is a good single player RPG. I enjoyed the storylines for the Imperial Agent and the Smuggler and haven't really played through the others yet. I honestly don't feel like I'm playing an MMO when I'm in SWTOR...the zones are empty and there's never any chat going on. I can do the main storyline up to max level with my companion and never need to join a group. I'll probably go back and play through the other class storylines at some point after the game goes free to play.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
The server consolidation really help the populations for missions and PvP.
The game is still fun for me, there is enough variety that I can switch characters or sides and get back into the story and the whole star wars universe.

More details on the F2P option have been revealed:

More info here:

...The good news is that one major aspect of TOR, the detailed story, will be completely free for all classes.
Payment starts to come up when you want to run multiplayer missions. You'll get an allotment of three PvP warzone missions a week, three rewarded flashpoints per week, one crew skill, and five revives in the field. If you want to go above that allowance, you can get more by purchasing Cartel Coins. TOR subscribers will already get some Cartel Coins from the start, and those who stay subscribed will get unlimited feature access plus some Cartel Coins to spend freely.
The official site (via PC Gamer) also points out that even making a single purchase will upgrade you to "preferred" status. This lets you sprint, use bank slots, chat and trade, and licenses you to equip purple items.
BioWare has been notably vague about when exactly it will make the F2P switch, but in the meantime has continued producing new content for current subscribers. The company plans on some form of major update every six weeks.

This has got to be one of the stingiest F2P games I've ever seen. Before you waste any time downloading it, check out this web page showing all the stuff you can't do without paying money.

A bit more about F2P, with a feature called Preferred Status:
http://www.swtor.com/info/news/blog/20121107
That makes it sound like they're going for a three-tiered service like Everquest F2P:
http://www.everquest.com/free
There's no info on how exactly "Preferred Status" differs from the F2P and subscriber tiers.
http://www.swtor.com/info/news/blog/20121107
And we have not forgotten about those of you who once had accounts, but cancelled. We are hoping to get you to come back and play! Any player who has ever paid a monthly subscription fee will be given Preferred Status automatically when Free-to-Play option is launched. Players with Preferred Status do not face the same limitations as a Free-to-Play player and will find that some restrictions are either removed or greatly reduced.
In addition, Preferred Status can be earned by any Free-to-Play player who spends a minimum of $4.99 at our web store.

Just a reminder that the game is going F2P today. The servers are currently down while they apply the update:

When we launch our Free-to-Play option this Fall, it will include three ways of playing The Old Republic: as a Subscriber, as a Free-to-Play Player, or with Preferred Status! We have previously mentioned Preferred Player Status on our website but have not really gone into details, something I plan to address here.
Once our Free-to-Play option launches, Free-to-Play Players will gain Preferred Player Status by making a single purchase through our website. This purchase can simply be a quantity of Cartel Coins, or a Game Time Card, or even a month of a Subscription. Additionally, former Subscribers who are returning as Free-to-Play Players, will find they have Preferred Status!
As a Preferred Status Player, you will gain the following benefits compared to Free-to-Play Players:
• The Sprint ability at Level 1
• Access to your Cargo Hold (an 80 item Player Bank)
• Access to Secure Trade
• The ability to send Mail, including one (1) attachment
• Increased allowance for chat message frequencies in Public chat channels (such as /general)
• An increased Credits Cap
• Access to the Who List
• Three (3) additional Sale Slots on the Galactic Trade Network (for a total of 5)
• One (1) additional active Crew Skill Slot (for a total of 2)
• Reduced skill point respecialization costs
• Increased Server queue priority
In addition to the above benefits, Subscribers who return as Preferred Status Players will find that they retain any Cargo Hold and Inventory expansions they had unlocked, any Legacy Unlock or Perk they have gained (including Species) and can continue to use any Artifact equipment that was bound to them previously.
