Dead Space

Anyone else in for Dead Space?

I was sold on the look/design, but now that reviews are coming in, and are favorable, it's selling me all the more. Sounds like the game is estimated to be 12+/- hours on one playthrough, and that there is some incentive to go through at least a second time. For me this is probably the biggest driving point for purchase over rental.

So who else is in?

I think I'm in too. As long as something else doesn't pique my interest between now and Wednesday I'm going to use the Toys R Us deal and get:

Dead Space
Socom Confrontation
Saints Row 2

This was off my radar due to the genre (usually it's not my type of game) but I agree that it looks like Bioshock in space; considering how you upgrade your weapons.

I'm definitely in for this one. The more I read about it, the more excited I get to play it.

I only buy a few games a year, & this has been on my list for a while.

I can't wait for it, but my PS3 just fuckin' died on me.

I'm so pissed!!

I am getting this tomorrow as well. I heard people are saying Resident Evil can learn a thing or two from it.

I plan on renting it this weekend and playing through it on Sunday. Not sure if it'll warrant a purchase though... several of the reviews say it's a 6 hour game padded out to 12 hours. There better not be backtracking. I HATE backtracking.

From the IGN review:
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/918/918892p1.html

"Another issue within the title is that there's a lot of backtracking within the game. It all makes sense in the context of the gameplay, especially when you're going through each situation; instead of being a meaningless fetch quest, it's completely plausible that you'd have to return to one area you've previously moved through once you discover that one vital piece of equipment you need to fix something is stored there. However, it does have a way of making the ship feel much smaller than a massive capital ship. That's not to say that you get this sense throughout the entire game, because there are plenty of spaces like the medical, engineering and mining decks where you'll move through large areas, but the repetition can be a bit disappointing."

I wish there was more backtracking in Bioshock, and other games.

It can be good an bad. I can honestly see both sides. The biggest factor for me is as long as the environment is enjoyable enough and the story is making logic sense for the reasoning, then I don't mind backtracking. I also have faith that this game will keep already seen environments fresh and surprising. Just a guess.

I was all ready to play this today, and Gamestop says "we thought it'd be here today, but we'll get it tomorrow."

Not a big problem, because I did pick up Saints Row 2.

Yeah..it appears to be a ship date vs. available date problem. The game is actually shipping to most places today, so it probably won't be available in a majority of places till tomorrow. Wish they would just go with the one true date of when the thing is available.

BTW, I just noticed a FREE FOR A LIMITED TIME "Elite Suit" download for the 360 version.

Go to....Inside Moves and tab over to the Dead Space free trailers page. The free suit download is at the bottom.

As I understand it, this suit also has improved stat benefits, so definitely something everyone should check out while it's free. (If that news is accurate of course.)

I played about 2 1/2 hours of the game tonight.

OMFG.

This game is pretty goddamn awesome. Not to mention the fact that it may be the best looking game I've played. This game should be experienced for it's presentation value alone, not to mention the fact that it's been entertaining as hell in the process.

I played through the first two acts last night and it was the most I've enjoyed a game in quite some time. They did a great job of making it truly immersive. I don't remember having to wait for a single load time and the fact that you pull up you map, stats, communications, etc. all in real time definitely keeps you into the game. The first time I ran by a hole in the hull, I almost ran out of oxygen because I pulled a 'whoa shit' moment and was just staring off into space at the things floating outside. I like the little nods to Event Horizon, like 'Fuck this ship' graffiti in the med lab. The game pretty much feels like Bioshock as a third-person shooter set on the Event Horizon, so it's nice to see subtle homages to the movie.

A masterpiece of gaming.

Best game of the year... so far.

Are you guys playing on the PC or a console? Toys R Us still didn't have this game in last night and I'm eager to get it.
