I picked up Age of Zombies mini last night. It plays on PS3 and PSP, and for a $5 game, is a ton of fun.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I need some PSN recommendations. I still have $10 credit from Amazon(expires in 2 weeks). I picked up Trine a couple weeks ago. I'd been wanting Soldner-X, but the Raiden Fighter games on the 360 gave me my SHMUP fix. I was thinking about Shattered and Trash Panic or PixelJunk Shooter.

What's everyone recommend these days?

If you liked the Megaman series, Capcom just released number 10 for PSN.

I have all of those...

Shatter is awesome. Great twist on breakout with a great soundtrack.
Trash Panic is terrible IMO...Critter Crunch is a good puzzler though.
Pixeljunk Shooter was a lot of fun.

I don't know how you feel about indy games, and I know you got your shooter fill, but...

I recently got Everyday Shooter, and I think it's amazing...might not be very long though. Think Geometry Wars meets Bit Trip Beat.

I guess you already have Super Stardust HD?

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I have Everyday Shooter and it is awesome. Also have Critter Crunch on the iPhone. Fun, but don't really want to double dip on it.

So Trash Panic isn't worth a couple bucks? I haven't tried Super Stardust HD. What's the deal with PixelJunk Shooter? Seemed like it had a ton of buzz around release but not much since. Is it a one and done game? Play through once and be done with it?

I forgot about Mega Man 10. I'm an old school MM fan, but 9 really soured me on the whole retro thing. I think I beat one level in about 3 hours of playtime.

I wish Pac-Man: CE was on PSN. You can never have that on enough TVs.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I've really enjoyed Super Stardust HD for what it's worth. I do believe there's a demo for you to try it out.

I enjoyed Pixeljunk Shooter a lot. There's going to be an encore released at some point so you can either wait to get both, or go ahead and get this one now. It is fun.

It's hard to recommend without really knowing what you have. I think Fat Princess is a lot of fun. I've enjoyed Age of Booty for the $5 I spent on it. PJ Eden and Monsters are great. Enjoying Trine. Zen Pinball's enjoyable for what it is, although a lot of people seem to like the Williams Collection or something like that. I love Uno. Have it for both the 360 and PS3.

Ditto on MM9, but you won't have that problem with 10...at least not on Easy mode. Blade Man is the only 'bot in the game that gave me any trouble at that difficulty, and even that would've been a breeze if I'd had an extra energy container during the fight. If not for that, I wouldn't beaten the entire game in right at an hour. (My final time was 98 minutes or something like that, but as embarrassed as I am to admit it, it seriously took me something like 12 lives -- around a half hour -- to get through the Blade Man level.)

"Easy" is a cakewalk to the point of almost not being fun, really, but jumping...shooting...still a nostalgic blast. There are some clever environmental challenges to interact with. I do kind of wish that same sort of creativity went into the bosses. There are some weapons I like in concept, like the thunder cloud launcher, but I found myself using the Mega Buster pretty much the entire time instead. I'm curious how nasty it is on Normal difficulty.

MM10 has an "easy" mode, which is not exactly easy, just more forgiving than the regular difficulty, and about on par with say, MM2's easy mode.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

Trash Panic isn't great, sure. Still, I wouldn't say it's terrible and it's actually a little interesting once you get past the first level and start using fire and explosives. For $5 and including a free Dynamic theme (which I don't know is still included), I have no regrets.

But if you're looking for some must-have games, yeah that wouldn't be on my list.

Shatter is great for an Arkanoid-like game. I'm not too nuts about PixelJunk Shooter. It's alright and somewhat fun, but not in the same league as PixelJunk Monsters or Eden or as Flower, which is brilliant. I'm also a fan of Zen Pinball which is a very active, dynamic and visually appealing pinball game (with a demo), though some of the purists here feel it's inferior to other Pinball games.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

Shatter seems like a sure winner, but it's not $10, so I'm guessing that would be a problem.

For $10, Pixeljunk Shooter is a very interesting game...certainly much more than just a shooter, and I absolutely liked it more than Eden.

I've admittedly been playing Ratchet and Clank obsessively recently, so maybe that's brought back my platform-and-shoot-shoot skills that had atrophied when I played MM9. I'm not going to pretend to be the world's most amazing gamer or anything too, but man, MM10's easy mode is absurdly easy. I couldn't make any headway at all on MM9, but in MM10 -- with the exception of that damned Blade Man level -- I ran out of health once the entire game. Every other death was from hitting spikes or falling down a pit, and I had so many extra lives stockpiled that it didn't matter anyway. Especially since you can buy extra lives and energy/weapon tanks (could you do that in 9? I never actually got to the point where I beat a boss), it's really, really hard to break a sweat. There are so many extra lives scattered around in the levels themselves that you probably won't need to buy any anyway. The extra tanks definitely helped when I got to the Wily levels, though.

I don't have Super Stardust HD, but I'll get it the first time it's on sale. I really liked the demo, which I assume is still available.

Yeah, it's an oldie but a goody. Highly recommended. I find it a great palette cleanser for Geometry Wars .

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I thought the demo for Trash Panic was pretty fun. I keep waiting for a PSN sale to pick it up. I know it's only $5...but I can wait still.

I have a bunch of PSN games based on a group I'm in, but I don't get a chance to play them much.

I beat MM10 on easy mode while drunk in about an hour. That should tell you how hard their easy mode is lol..

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I know everyone is on the edge of their seat, so here goes. I went for Shatter for $8 since that seems to get universal praise and it seems like a game with plenty of replay value. And the remaining $2 balance went towards a $2 discount on, the out of left field choice, Flock. I seem to remember people talking that up back when it hit, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I considered Gripshift, but reviews weren't too favorable.

I knew if I pulled the trigger on Super Stardust or PixelJunk Shooter they would go on sale as soon as I did. As for Mega Man, I have the collection and 9 on the Wii so if I pick that up it will be on that system.

I'd wager that Shatter goes on sale before either of those games, but GREAT choice!

Oh, and Flock has a demo...or at least it used to. I played it for approx 4 minutes before deleting it.

Progress report:

Shatter: Fucking awesome. Addicting as hell too. I think I sunk about 5 hours into it yesterday. Unfortunately only two people on my friend's list own it, so competing for a high score is moot. I passed the Bus with my eyes closed.

Of course, the one game that actually has a demo on PSN and I didn't think to look for it, however, I actually enjoy the game. I was fearing the worst, but I've done about a dozen levels and it's pretty fun. It's no masterpiece, but not the piece of shit everyone else made it out to be.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I didn't think Flock was shit, just overpriced and kind of boring.

I see that they've bundled the PSP game echoshift for the PSP with some free bonus levels until 4/1. I thought the demo was cool but $14.99 seems pricey. Now I have to decide if I go with it as a bundle or wait for a sale and buy the bonus levels later. Anyone get this game yet?

I thought some downloadable games were overpriced before, but now I have an ipod touch and seeing good games run $3, I'm really spoiled.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I need to start adding some of you guys to my PSN friends list. Is there a limit on the PSN friends list size? One of the reasons I feel a bit guilty sending 360 friends requests is because of the 100 friends limit and I don't play a lot online. And I know some people don't like to clog up their lists with people who mainly play single player. But still, I like to be able to compare high scores and achievements.
