I'd suggest watching the ign walkthrough videos on youtube. It's really about getting the longest and most varied combo you can get. The first two round are where you really need to get a big score, because the later rounds get too hectic to keep your combo going.
I usually restarted the 1st round if i didnt get over 10,000. Basically means you need to get past the first round without breaking your combo or taking a hit. If you do all the moves in the combo than you can get a 5000 bonus.

Just finished the game last night. It was lots of fun, but I was really disappointed in the final battle.
Apparently I'm only 68% complete (I didn't bother with most of the Riddler's stuff, and I don't think I'll go back to finish those things)

Just got done finishing the story.
With that aside, I really liked this game. Never once was bored and gameplay always felt different and not repetitive. Cant wait to see what they have in store for the eventual sequel. I do hope they take their time with this next one. Maybe even make it a launch game for the next gen consoles would be cool. Can you imagine a sequel using Project Natal ?!?!

Just got past that area tonight. It was frustrating, no doubt, but I think it wasn't as hard for me as the booby traps earlier.
I haven't been reading too closely, but were others
over the Croc Lair sewers? I mean, it wasn't that difficult, but it had a certain suckiness that the rest of the game absolutely doesn't have. I know it's a standard video game cliche that sewer levels will always suck, but even knowing that I was really frustrated and irritated, especially on the return trip back. These sewers left me nostalgic for the ones in Infamous.

Oh. Well, that never occurred to me. I'd be a little upset if I were playing it on the 360,

I thought the setting was pretty cool, and they had a pretty good gameplay concept...but his popping up constantly ruined the execution. So yeah, one of the weaker parts of the game...but still a nice change of pace.
I also thought the sewer level in RE4 was great. The first time I heard that sound effect of the bugs running at me, I freaked the f' out.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I know it's all been said, and certainly I was skeptical, but this game is AMAZINGLY GOOD. Good in a way that had me go through 70% of the game in one marathon day. And now for some hyperbole...
If you took all of the best things about Metroid Prime, Bioshock and Metal Gear and wrapped them in a flawlessly executed Batman license, this is pretty much what you'd come up with.
Things that surprised me:
1. Batman moves very fluidly (sometimes the easiest way to travel is to zip up to a tower and glide across the map, which is badass)
2. The game is super dark (seriously dark themes and a ridiculous body count)
3. The variety of gameplay is remarkable (sneaking, fighting, detecting, hacking, setting traps...)
4. The integration of technology and forensics is brilliant
5. I haven't finished the story, but so far, it feels like a really good "animated series" movie, which gets
I've been looking forward to Uncharted all year, but I think it will sit unopened until I finish this.

No doubt, Batman is a truly, ridiculously excellent game. I think Uncharted 2 will surpass it for me in my limited time with it, but that's unimportant -- they're my two favorite games of this generation by far.
The amount of work and care that went into Batman is remarkable. Really hoping for a sequel as good as this one, but honestly I can't think of much that needs improvement.

My apologies if this has been brought up up-thread, but as I'm going to be picking up a PS3 soon, would you recommend this game for the PS3 or the 360 (which I already own)? I'm not an achievement whore...just want the best gaming/graphics experience.

the only upside to the PS3 version, IMO, is the ability to play a few challenges as Joker. If that's your cup of tea, get it on PS3.

I'm sure it's fine on both consoles, but the camera and the Joker make this one seem like an easy choice IMO.

I read that the camera was a bit too zoomed in on the 360 as well, so I looked up the picture below. It's not a big deal unless you're doing a lot of hand-to-hand fighting...but there is a lot of that in this game.

I thought that was proven to be a hoax? Someone pointed out that one video he is running.

The Joker challenges are cool -- unlike the Batman ones, they are actually very different from the gameplay in the main game. That alone makes it the preferred version for those who don't need every gamerscore they can get. Also, there are some additional Batman challenge maps available for free DLC on the PS3 version, there are some HD video making-of features on the PS3 version and last and certainly least, there is apparently a free Batcave environment for Home, if you feel the need to subject yourself to that. While nothing earth-shattering, I would say the PS3 version is the way to go if you can get them for the same price.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I can't see the photo I posted at work, but as I recall, the cape was hanging more or less the same in both. I haven't played any of the challenges (Joker or otherwise) yet, so I can't speak to that.
But I did finish the game last night. I'm two Riddler trophies short (one just to the left of the caves and one that looks like it should be in the abandoned tunnel???). I'll probably come back to the challenge mode after Uncharted 2.
I thought the final boss battle was pretty bad...mostly because the boss looked kind of stupid, and I've always hated the "do it three times" convention. I thought the plant boss was pretty bad as well, so the game basically had one good boss (Bane/Titans). This is probably the one thing that keeps the game from reaching Metroid Prime/Zelda levels of brilliance, but otherwise, it's an absolute clinic in game design.
Ultimately, and without "for a licenced game" qualifiers, this is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. But I do have a fair amount of nostalgia for Batman, so grain of salt. IMO, they nailed everything:
- Best combat system I've played in an action game (including God of War)
- First time I remember using forensics in a game
- The predator rooms, and watching dudes freak out, is ridiculously fun
- The "metroidvania" style world is perfect
- The Riddler challenges were much more interesting than generic environmental puzzles
- The story (and voicework) were both on par with the Animated Series.
Room for improvement?:
- Bosses are kind of generic
- I wish detective mode wasn't so advantagous. I don't feel like I got to see enough of the game because I was always in detective mode.

You know how your brain is trained to read things a certain way, even if it's not what's there...
Amusing, but probably just for me.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I finished this as well this morning. I have maybe 40 or so Riddler puzzles/collectibles/whatever to find, so I'll probably do those, play with the challenge rooms a little and move on to Brutal Legend. I might come back later and replay it on hard.
Agreed on pretty much everything frizby said, especially the detective mode. I felt like I missed out on a lot of the amazing look of the game because I ran around in detective mode all the time. I had to force myself to switch out of it every so often and take in the scenery.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
The nice thing about finding all/most of the Riddler stuff is that when you are finished, you can just run around in normal view, and it looks great!
"Party Pooper" trophy = pretty tough. I eventually set 3 charges in the corners and set them off at once.
Anybody have any tips for taking out those elecrical dudes? I had always used my grapple hook to yank them down, but that didn't work so great on the final boss. I tried the triangle counter and circle counter, but I always get shocked when I hit them afterwards.

Apparently, there is extra dialog that alerts you to where the riddler challenges are if you play the game on easy. Has anyone noticed different dialog between the medium and hard modes?

On medium, you get the Riddler maps, which I used more than anything else for solving them. I haven't played hard yet, but probably will on my next playthrough.
