Looks like the joke was on me.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Alright, welp I've finished the game and it was one awesome experience. I think I'm done with the game for a while. I still have a ton of stuff to find, but without the story propelling me forward, I don't have the drive to find the rest of the Riddler's clues and such.

I'm still really interested in the rest of the patient interview and Arkham memoirs that I haven't listened too, but they're all up on youtube now, so I'll just listen to them that way.

I pretty much adored everything about this game, the only thing I didn't care for were:

Spoiler:

The Poison Ivy stuff. Her stage and all was well executed, but when she took over the island, it was pretty boring because there weren't any thugs to fight. I would have much rather her replaced the thugs with re-skinned plant monsters or something, instead of the globe spitting seymores.

I dug most all of the boss battles. They were interesting, while being sort of easy at the same time. I'm too old for that crazy difficult boss battle stuff, so I'm glad they kept the battles pretty cinematic. In fact, the game overall was the right balance of ease for me. It wasn't a cake walk, but I never got frustrated, outside of the confrontation before the final boss battle (which took a few tries). This is definitely how I prefer my games now.

I'm really curious what they're going to do next. I feel like they would get punished for just doing the same game again, so there is going to have to be a lot of stuff that is different. My money is on Two-Face being the Big Bad next go round, but if I'm honest he's not even half as interesting as The Joker is. At the end of the day he's just a gangster with some scars. Don't get me wrong, I really dig the character, but in a game context? I dunno. Now, I'll take all that back if they go the No Man's Land route, because Two Face would be well utilized in that story. Also, NML would allow for them to restrict Gotham, much like Arkham was, and allow for some new play mechanics to make the game not feel like a complete retread (fighting for turf).

The Hush storyline would be a good one to borrow from too.

All I know is there better be more Scarecrow stuff the next go round. That shit was amazing. And there are so many things left untouched they could play off of.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

yeah. the difficulty level was just about right for me on normal.
It was a bit on the easy side, but i prefer that over too hard.
nowadays, i cringe when i get into a boss fight, but the boss fights in this game weren't too hard. I wish there were more though. I think i only remember around 4 boss fights in this game.

p.s. if you are struggling with those situations with the gargoyle and men with guns. upgrade your batarang to take out 2/3 guys simulatenous. It makes it alot easier and IMO one of the better upgrades.

Y'know, more than boss fights, I'm looking forward to more gadgets next go round. You're going to have your constants (batarand, grapple gun), but I'm sure each game is going to present the need for a specific gadget. I'm really jonesin for a smoke bomb. They could just use the smoke for Lost Planet and call it a day. -wink-

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Smoke Bombs, Flash Bombs, and a gadget I thought they were going to have in this game when first encountered breakable out of reach walls...explosive putty guns like in TDK.

I was thinking that I'm glad this game didn't have any driving or flying levels. I think they did a great job on the driving level for Batman Begins(XBOX), but I still don't like them.

I didn't miss driving or flying levels at all. I think instead of those, we got a change up in the gameplay through the Scarecrow levels. That was more than enough for me. If they want to add vehicles in the next game, that's cool, I just hope everything has the same polish as AA had.

Also, Robo you gave me a bit of a boner thinking about explosive putty guns. I really wish they were in this, and hope they make the next game.

So I told myself I wouldn't get "all" of the riddles/trophies/etc., just "most" of them. Last night I broke that promise to myself and was up until about 3AM.

Now I'm trying to tell myself I won't try to get all of the challenges done...just most of them.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

^^ But the second time you play thru, there are no villains, correct? So it's just walking around looking for stuff?

redbill 09-10-09 09:09 AM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

after you beat the game, there are no villains, aside from a a couple straggler lunatic inmates. Bu that's not really a "second play thru". Its just a chance to get the remaining riddles.

Its biggest success, 2008's "The Dark Knight," generated more than $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales and was a top DVD seller. The CW Network's "Smallville," based on the early life of Superman, is entering its ninth season. "Batman: Arkham Asylum," a recent video game co-published by Warner Bros. Interactive, has sold nearly 2 million units in less than a month, a major hit.

I remember reading something along the lines that those who purchased the PS3 version were getting a batcave for the PS Home. What happened with that?

Isn't Home already like the Batcave or Superman's Fortress of Solitude? Aren't you usually alone when you're on there?

Finished it and loved it overall. The graphics were great, the voices and music too.

I really liked the "escape" RB when you fell off something bad, instead of him just "dying" and starting over. Nice touch. I also liked there weren't too many parts like that, and that Batman could jump off almost anything. Getting the long-distance glide achievement was cool.

What happens if you don't "escape" in time? I don't think I ever went without pressing the button.

You die and respawn at the latest checkpoint (usually the entrance to that area).

Are you going to put racing stripes on it? I'm not sure what that has to do with this game :hscratch:

I finished the riddles last night. Awesome game, but I can't get golds on the challenges so no 100% completion for me :( It's due back at the rental store today, and I'm not sure if I should rent it again to try the challenges and frustrate the shit out of myself some more or just let it go. Hockey comes out Tuesday, so this may keep me busy enough til then (with the Beatles).

it means, because of this particular game, i yearn for a system to play it on. thought that would have been obvious.

Ah, you mean to get another system. You can't exactly upgrade a Gamecube to a PS3 or a 360.

Are you just pining or are you seriously considering it?

$270 will get you a PS3 Slim at Dell.com

I'm halfway tempted to buy a spare...just to cut down wear and tear on my 60 gig.

I tried that with my wife, but she seemed to think getting a "Spare" wife was not appropriate behavior.

For me, when I used Detective Mode on the door I was immediately like :jawdrop: so I went in with fists flying thinking that it was a normal encounter.

It wasn't until later that I found out they don't attack until you strike.

I know this point has been made already but I hope they find a better way to use Detective Mode. I mean, there was nothing wrong with it per se, but I spent 98% of the game with it "on" out of fear of missing something and I realize now I didn't really get to see the game's graphics in regular mode.

See, for me it was fine. I would just flash it on and then off again, when I entered a new room.

I went in there, threw around some explosive gel, walked to the end, turned around, and blasted. Was able to knock out one or two before the rest knew what was up.

Just finished all 240 Riddler Challenges. It got kind of tough towards the end; I couldn't find two Joker Teeth (one in Penitentiary and the other in Arkham Mansion). Had to turn to the internet to find 'em, as I wasn't going to spend another hour or two searching for one pair of teeth in each place.

Also had to look up how to find the last Chronicle of Arkham, as I had no idea of how I was going to find that one.

I had to cheat for a couple teeth and some stuff in the sewers. And the last CoA. There's no way I would have found that, I misunderstood the penultimate CoA, and was looking in the wrong places...

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

I just finished the game. What a disappointing ending to such a great game.
Spoiler:
I hated the pumped up Joker and then on top of that you didn't even get to fight him. The fight before that w/the 2 titans was more difficult (beat Joker on the second try).
Sorry if this has been brought up already, but I've been avoiding spoilers.

So, I ended up with 223/240 riddles. I guess I'll go grab the remaining ones and that should wipe the Joker battle from my memory.

edit: Sorry, I thought everyone was posting the games details. That's why I wasn't reading through the thread while playing.

update: got all 240 riddles, now I just need to find the last Chronicle of Arkham.

boredsilly 09-12-09 06:57 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Then maybe you might not want to spoil the end boss fight for other folks? I don't think it's a big deal, but you never know other people's spoiler tolerance, so it's better to err on the side of caution.

I do agree that the last boss encounter was a little lame. It felt very much like a 16 bit boss battle to me for some reason. I think it would have been cooler if it was more psychological -- like say the Sniper Wolf battle in Metal Gear Solid. Either have the Joker hunting you, or you hunting the Joker (with the Joker finding some way to disable your detective vision, so that you're fighting "blind"). Have the music drop out entirely, and just have the sounds and taunts from the Joker be the things you hear.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Okay so I'm looking for the final Chronicle of Arkham.
Spoiler:

After running around looking for random people I left behind, I came to the conclusion that it has to be the warden. So, I ran to the penitentiary where I left him, but he's not there. Next, I looked on the map for the warden's office and ran there, positive I was right. Nope...not there either.

Am I completely off the mark with what I'm thinking/doing?
