Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
wait wait wait....there's an "action Camera"? I read this in Gameinformer in a Tips for B:AA article but I don't think I've ever used it.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
The action camera is the camera that sometimes follows projectile weapons as they fly through the air - it's not another camera for watching regular gameplay.

General Tips: Action Camera: The action camera shows Batman executing certain moves in a cool view. For example, if you hold the RT button while glide kicking a thug from a vantage point, the camera changes to show Batman swooping from the Thug's perspective. You can also use the action camera with certain gadgets, for example, pressing RB instead of RT to fire the Batarang makes the camera follow it, which is great Batarang-to-face close up shots. |

Yeah, just hold down R2 when using any of your gadgets. I would use it with the batarang when I wanted to get a better look at something far away (hidden riddles and shit like that). I haven't used it on the glide kicks yet, I'll have to try that out.
Yeah I tried it after my post. I used Right Bumper to throw Batarangs instead of Right Trigger during the Killer Croc level. It's an alternative firing method for most of the gadgets using Right Bumper to fire. I think I've used it by accident now that I think about it. I can remember a couple times where was aiming a Batarang, and instead of the normal camera view of Bats throwing and watching the hit from a distance, the camera followed the errant throw hitting a wall. When Bats is using the zip line, you see him from the front instead of the back. But then you can't see where to land so it's not the best thing for this gadget. |

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I don't know if it's been mentioned elsewhere here, but I just noticed that with the game disc in on the PS3, you can go to the XMB main menu and watch several making-of clips off the video menu just like you would if you had put a blu ray disc in the tray (instead of launching video content from within the game). Pretty neat idea, actually.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Just finished this last night. I was only 65% complete and have no desire to find all the hidden riddles... that said, does anybody think or know if Eidos will come out with d/l levels or boss fights?
I love the gameplay but don't find the challenges that much fun. I'd be in for more core gameplay though. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I haven't heard anything about DLC levels or boss fights. And I don't expect any. They may release more DLC challenge maps though.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I am stuck on the part were you have to stop Ivy from destroying the island. I cant find a way in to the Botanical Garden and the front door is blocked by a vine... Anyone?

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I think to the left or right of that there is a passage you can go into
|
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
IIRC, there's another opening to the left of the entrance.

They're really not limited with respect to the location. You could come up with any kind of scenario that restricts the action to a specific piece (or pieces) of Gotham. And if this happens bring on the Batmobile.
In Metroid terms (and isn't everything in Metroid terms really?): Metroid Prime was locked down to one location, but Metroid Prime: Corruption was all over the place...and you still never flew the ship. A similar model would work. |

Thanks a lot to all that replied.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham Asylum – Prey In The Darkness Pack is coming today, but it is exclusive to PS3 in NA. If you have a 360 and live in Europe you can download the content that way.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I could imagine a bank level as some premium DLC.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Finished this on Hard last night. Not too difficult at all. I only have the combat challenges to tackle, but I doubt I'll be able to get all the medals for the 100% complete.
|
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
PS3 owners can get a couple exclusive Arkham Asylum themes (one w/ Batman, one w/ Joker) for FREE right now. I'm not a huge fan of the backgrounds, but the icons and sound effects are cool.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Any tips besides just punch and evade?

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I'd suggest watching the ign walkthrough videos on youtube. It's really about getting the longest and most varied combo you can get. The first two round are where you really need to get a big score, because the later rounds get too hectic to keep your combo going.
I usually restarted the 1st round if i didnt get over 10,000. Basically means you need to get past the first round without breaking your combo or taking a hit. If you do all the moves in the combo than you can get a 5000 bonus. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Just finished the game last night. It was lots of fun, but I was really disappointed in the final battle.
Spoiler:
Apparently I'm only 68% complete (I didn't bother with most of the Riddler's stuff, and I don't think I'll go back to finish those things) |

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Just got done finishing the story.
Spoiler:
With that aside, I really liked this game. Never once was bored and gameplay always felt different and not repetitive. Cant wait to see what they have in store for the eventual sequel. I do hope they take their time with this next one. Maybe even make it a launch game for the next gen consoles would be cool. Can you imagine a sequel using Project Natal ?!?! |

I haven't been reading too closely, but were others :gah: over the Croc Lair sewers? I mean, it wasn't that difficult, but it had a certain suckiness that the rest of the game absolutely doesn't have. I know it's a standard video game cliche that sewer levels will always suck, but even knowing that I was really frustrated and irritated, especially on the return trip back. These sewers left me nostalgic for the ones in Infamous. |

Another question, this one about the part right before the final battle:

I thought the setting was pretty cool, and they had a pretty good gameplay concept...but his popping up constantly ruined the execution. So yeah, one of the weaker parts of the game...but still a nice change of pace. I also thought the sewer level in RE4 was great. The first time I heard that sound effect of the bugs running at me, I freaked the f' out. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I know it's all been said, and certainly I was skeptical, but this game is AMAZINGLY GOOD. Good in a way that had me go through 70% of the game in one marathon day. And now for some hyperbole...
If you took all of the best things about Metroid Prime, Bioshock and Metal Gear and wrapped them in a flawlessly executed Batman license, this is pretty much what you'd come up with. Things that surprised me: 1. Batman moves very fluidly (sometimes the easiest way to travel is to zip up to a tower and glide across the map, which is badass) 2. The game is super dark (seriously dark themes and a ridiculous body count) 3. The variety of gameplay is remarkable (sneaking, fighting, detecting, hacking, setting traps...) 4. The integration of technology and forensics is brilliant 5. I haven't finished the story, but so far, it feels like a really good "animated series" movie, which gets  I've been looking forward to Uncharted all year, but I think it will sit unopened until I finish this. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
No doubt, Batman is a truly, ridiculously excellent game. I think Uncharted 2 will surpass it for me in my limited time with it, but that's unimportant -- they're my two favorite games of this generation by far.
The amount of work and care that went into Batman is remarkable. Really hoping for a sequel as good as this one, but honestly I can't think of much that needs improvement. |
Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
My apologies if this has been brought up up-thread, but as I'm going to be picking up a PS3 soon, would you recommend this game for the PS3 or the 360 (which I already own)? I'm not an achievement whore...just want the best gaming/graphics experience.
