Trying to decide which version to pick up this weekend. PS3 or 360.

If I don’t really care about the challenge map on the PS3, which one should I get?

Graphically and frame rate wise, are they the same?

Probably referring to the less-than-impressive batarang replica and the fact that the leather-bound journal is just a booklet that comes in a removable leather cover. Also, not sure if this is a Canadian issue only, but a lot of people have been reporting that the Crime Alley sticker sheet/download code is missing from their X360 CE contents.

For those solving the riddles... I am stuck on one.

Spoiler:

In the sancatorium, The riddle is something to the effect that you need a new perspective. I got up on the gargoyle statues and at various points, I get a message that states the subject is obscured or investigation partially solved.

I am stumped and spent a bunch of time trying to figure that one out and am at a loss.

Quick dumb question as I didn't have time to scan the thread. Is this title only available on PS3 and XBox 360? Any plans for other platforms down the road? Thanks!

IIRC...

Spoiler:
There is a section of the ground on the second floor that you can blow up with your explosives. Turn on detective mode and you will see a question mark, but without the bottom dot. Stand near the hole, but without going into it, and angle the camera. On the floor of the bottom chamber, you will eventually see the dot from the question mark. Line it up with the top portion and do the crime scene analysis thing and you should get it. Took me a while to line it up sufficiently. You can't see the dot from the gargoyles, so don't bother with them. There are a few puzzles like that scattered throughout.

It will also be released to PC next month. Obviously, there will not be a Wii version of this game.

I just started playing the game (ps3). So far it's a really fun Batman game. The only gripe i have right now is the voice actor for Commisionar gordon. He sounds horrible.

And i'm kinda confused on the detective mode. I pushed the L2 button it scanned one room but when i go to another room I push the L2 button and it wont come up. Is it just room specific? Are there any audio tapes or diaries i need to scan for?

I say get the PS3 version. There's a visual head to head referenced somewhere, but all things being equal... PS3 has more built in content.

If you don't care about the challenge maps, then it comes down to controller preference and whether you want achievements or trophies.

From everything I have read, the 360 is just a nudge better looking but I think you have to have super vision to truly tell the difference.

I'm stuck on this riddle

Spoiler:
The one in the catacombs where you can't use your grapple. I can see the question mark underneath an arch from way down, but I can't find the dot.. If I use my line thrower to get across that pit on the side of the room I get "Answer is obscured" or something, so I think that's where you stand, but I can't find the damn dot... I have nightmares about that DAMN DOT :P

oh yes, yes it can.

Now I want a rocksteady punisher game... I would seriously kill someone for that.

Just let them produce all superhero games from this point on.

Finished the game today. I'm now 70% done with the game - I have a lot of stuff left to find - and the challenge maps require that you find a specific item or Riddler's trophy. And the challenge maps are quite difficult for me. Right now, this is the game to beat for game of the year.

BTW, as far as trophies/achievements and difficulty level goes -
Spoiler:
You do get the trophies below your current difficulty level you are at. For example, if you are playing the normal difficulty level (Bigger Bang), you'll also get the trophy for the easy level (Big Bang).

Brent L 08-27-09 08:07 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Since you finished, am I as close to the end as I think I am?

Spoiler:
I'm on my way to find Ivy to take her down, right after I defeated the Titan and all of the normal goons.

Pretty close.
Spoiler:
There's another boss fight after Ivy, and you should know whom I'm referring to at this point. It's quite interesting, I'll say that much.

okay never mind. I just figured out you need to gently tap the L2 button. I kept holding it down waiting for it to start

After playing for a little bit more I'm starting to really love this game. I think the only other superhero game i liked more was infamous. These two games are gonna be hard to top for all future superhero games.

And while not a big fan of online multiplayer, i think this game could've had some great m.p. modes. They could've had a v.s. mode where one player is batman and the other players would be the villains trying to take down batman.

How do you hand the guys from gargoyles? I got it to work in the demo no problem but the option isn't showing up in the game.

It's an upgrade that you have to "buy." That threw me off at first too.

you have to get to the very top of the catacombs. The dot is a small dot at the edge of the highest platform you can climb. i forget if you need detective mode or not

Just beat the story mode on normal. Absolutely fan-fucking-tastic. The ending is so good, I pretty much jumped out of my seat and cheered at the climax. This was a brilliant game, it really felt like a feature length episode of Batman: The Animated Series. Here's hoping they can put together a sequel that tops it.

THis arrived yesterday from the PR dude (but i bought it with overnight shipping from amazon yesterday too DAMMIT) - and i played about 1.5 hours last night. I was taking my time - listening to every guard ramble on about something, basically made it to just past where you find Harley's first interview tape. Great game...

But, I looked and it said i solved 3 riddler challenges or something? I only found one ? in there...how did i solve 3? maybe i should stop drinking and playing on weeknights.

Interview tapes, the Arkham stones, and killing those chattering teeth also count as riddles.

Some of the Riddler challenges are just things like "Destroy 5 sets of Joker teeth" and "Destroy 10 sets of Joker teeth". There seems to be one set of those per area, so you may have gotten those without realizing it.

Definitely. I think it also adds to your life/upgrade points as well. Right?

They definitely give experience, so yes on the upgrade points. Not sure how Batman heals, but I haven't paid attention or bothered to RTFM since that takes away valuable playing time.

nanobots.

I think it heals automatically. I took some hits when that dude from Lady in the Water was fighting me, then it healed up when i ran away before the brain hemorrhage took him out.

Yeah, I love how Batman has a "no killing" rule, but he cracks skulls like eggs and then leaves the scene. I'm sure his death ratio is closer to 47% than he'd like to believe.

 Good point.

I love the way they did combat in this game. It appears there is a large variety to it as well because I see him do something different every time I am in a large fight.

I really enjoy the aspect of being at the top of the room, watching what is going on and then figuring out how to take out each guy quickly and quietly. The fact that there are so many ways and options to do this make replayability higher than expected for me. And I don't mind getting my ass kicked and then going back to the drawing board and trying something else.

I know Kevin Conroy is the "voice" of Batman but sometimes his lines in this game seem phoned. Mark Hamill, on the other hand, seems at the top of his game every time he say ANY line. Who knew where Luke would end up!

Was it ever determined if you get to keep your leveled up Batman if you finish on Normal and then want to move to Hard?

I figured I'd probably have to, but didn't check to see if it was in the abilities list. The ONLY gripe I have with this game is upgrading abilities and unlimited weapons. (At least the one I've had so far)

I understand that traditionally games like this have upgrade features but ... he's Batman! Shouldn't he know how to do all this stuff already?

I forgot to ask for those Fallout 3 players playing this game...do you walk up to every locker and try to open the damn thing? Just two weeks of playing Fallout 3 recently and I am playing the Batman game just like it.

Every desk, every locker...I walk up and hit A and nothing happens. It's almost automatic and I can't seem to break it yet.

When you gain XP you also gain health. That includes Riddler challenges, destroying Joker teeth, etc. Heck, when I play on hard I may leave Riddler statues lying around so I can get a quick health boost when I need it, heh.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Alrighty, so earlier today I got to
Spoiler:
Ivy and that boss fight. I did it a few times, then "cracked" it and it became so easy. I was ready to brag about how I did it without really getting hit at all...and right when I thought it was over I came to realize that it was apparently just the first "phase" of the boss fight.

If you are that far, you'll know what I mean.
