Heh, White House, Capital same thing. I thought of the image with-out realizing what the post was asking.

My bad.

I've never played Oblivion and was not attracted to this one at first either but I keep checking it out.

How would you rate this game? I do like the fact that it's long as hell (something of rarity with non-online games today which is a shame) and I guess my main question is.....is it tedious or fun to play?

I may actually pick this up but just looking for some input if anyone cares to give some.

I really love the Call of Duty games but before you roll your eyes.........I am talking about the single player story modes and not just the online stuff.

I've beat GTA 4 but am pissed at how bored I am with it now and I'm not a to fond of gears of war - played the 2nd one for a little while but got sick of it (great graphics though).

jonw9 11-12-08 08:55 PM

I wasn't big on RPGs (Final Fantasy, etc.) but after reading threads here on how awesome Oblivion was, I bought it.

I enjoyed that game, but I think I am liking this one even more. Oblivion seemed to get repetative on the story mode. This one (so far) has a bunch of different things to do, but i guess it all boils down to, go here, kill him, find this, level up.

I pretty much only play single player games, and don't even have a gold live membership.

If you like FPS' then I think this one you would enjoy as well.

It's very fun to play. I am going on 70 hours now, and I never tire of exploring and killing. I rate it an A+, possibly my all-time favorite game now.

jonw9 11-12-08 09:48 PM

I would say the biggest difference (other then the era) is that in oblivion, you "practice" a skill to improve it. i.e. You repair items to increase your skill. In fallout, you need to addpoints to it when leveling to increase your abilities (besides books, etc.)

jonw9 11-13-08 09:58 AM

One thing about Fallout I am not sure I like is the ability to skip part of a quest.

Last night I was
Spoiler:
working on the survival book and the Those! quest, and ended up in Rivet City for both, and in my questioning, ran across
Spoiler:
Dr. Li
and s/he told me about my dad, and then skipped over the footsteps/radio station quest. So I reloaded and ignored her for now. I don't know how much I would have missed, but I didn't like the fact it was accidental.

GoVegan 11-13-08 10:04 AM

I'm 2/3 through what must be the longest escort mission in any game ever, with a bunch of people who are unaware there's a run key.

JasonF 11-13-08 01:15 PM

jonw9, it is OK to talk to that character at that point. There is another character who will point you to the character you met, but if you meet the character you met first, then the pointer character will say "You already met the person I was going to tell you about, so let me give you something else instead."

Hopefully that made sense.

jonw9 11-13-08 04:03 PM

That does make sense, I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything, so just loaded a save from a few minutes before.

Spoiler:

I thought I read you can leave 101, walk directly to another vault and find your Dad right away!

That sounds like fun!

Tuan Jim 11-13-08 05:57 PM

I had that same quest issue with Rivet City. HOWEVER - if you still go back to GNR and talk to 3-dog, the quest will show back up in your queue and you can carry it out like normal (only yeah, no real info from him that you haven't already heard) - heck even the reward from him was useless since the first quest I did out of Megaton was Lucy West's letter quest.

GV - assuming you're talking about
Spoiler:
saving Dr. Li and crew from the Enclave
- that one was a headache. I was killing a bunch of folks and somehow I still lost half of the guys due to - I don't know what. I think one was killed by a random ghoul but I thought I didn't see any of them get shot or anything else - couldn't even keep track of them anyways.

While it's probably possible, I think you'd probably have some skill/lvl issues - although maybe not. It was possible to do something similar in Fallout2, but you had to save - a LOT!

Are you sure it got skipped? I found
Spoiler:
this old gas station that turned out to be a vault and found the Dad there, but I was able to go back and do the radio station quest

It's true
Spoiler:
he's in vault 87 or 92, I forget the number, but it's involved in the Tranquillity Lane quest, which is alot of fun. After that he asks you to go with him to Rivet City, but you can refuse and meet him later.

was it
Spoiler:
the Little Lamplight quest where you are escorting the kid and slaver back to Paradise Falls?

Tarantino 11-13-08 09:46 PM

Well...I popped this in for the first time today, because my roommate had gotten it a few days ago and I was bored. I knew nothing about it and had never played another Fallout. So far, this game is a blast!

This game is so expansive, the most I've ever seen. It's so fun just wandering the countryside and seeing what kind of people and creatures I'll be running from.

= J

Wow, two guesses and both were wrong. I guess I assumed it would be the only lengthy escort quest in the game. It's
Spoiler:
involving a former president
Spoiler:
Lincoln
and
Spoiler:
escorting Hannibal and the anti-slavery crew to the Lincoln Monument in order to restore it and set up a base there.
Spoiler:
Hannibal leads the way and crisscrosses across practically the entire map. In fact I was wrong about being 2/3 done. I just walked with them another hour or two and now I think we're about that far along.

I just fast traveled and met them there.

Yeah seriously - they didn't say anything about escorting - the quest just says meet them there.

GoVegan 11-14-08 06:12 AM

Yeah, I initially just fast traveled there and then slept for days waiting for them to arrive and they never showed. I assume they were slaughtered along the way, which makes sense because they chose to go through many areas I hadn't cleared yet and so far there have been quite a few enemies with rocket launchers and miniguns.

It's definitely set up for the option of escorting, though. When you talk to the main guy you can tell him to wait while you scout ahead.

jonw9 11-14-08 07:26 AM

Man this game is huge. I played all night practically (anybody have dome jet?), and completed a couple/few more side quests, with nothing on the main. I am easily 10+ hours in.

All I have done was the book, those, android, and got the declaration. This could take years!

A couple things I noticed:
I didn't read my birthday book in the vault, and when I left it was gone.
Bloody mess isn't that great. They turned up the physics, and things fly around. It is hard searching raiders, when all of their pulp lands in the same spot.
It is amazing when 1 second I am going through halls full of molerats and radroaches. The next place I end up in is full of supermutants.
Spoiler:
I thought I was going to be slick on the android mission by helping the robot, then telling on the robot, then shooting the doctor, and get double reward. But I could only knock him out. :( Does he come into play later? Because I was able to to the same thing in Megaton with the weird guy in the bar.

The Bus 11-14-08 10:32 AM

So is anyone getting constant freezes, lock-ups, and disc errors?

This hasn't happened on any game outside of Fallout 3: GTA and Mass Effect both give me no problems, and they're just as intensive as F3.

It gets to where I need to save every 5 minutes because I'm afraid it's going to freeze. Any tips?

Matthew Ackerly 11-14-08 11:12 AM

I haven't had the game freeze once. I'm on the PS3.
