re: Diablo III + Reaper of Souls (multi-platform)
First rule of blizzard forums:
1.) Don't believe ANYTHING people say on blizzard forums.
Blizz themselves has said that not one of the hacked accounts they've looked into has had an authenticator on it. Until there is some proof beyond what some guy said on a forum, I'll take them for their word on that.

And I was just letting people know, if they want to take the advice then good for them, either way I am just trying to let people know.

I've been following this in the forums and basically speculation quickly turns to fact, especially if it fits the narrative that hack victims what to create ("It couldn't possibly be something *I* did that caused me to be hacked!"). If Blizzard believed that people could hack your accounts just by playing in a public game with you, you'd better believe they'd shut down that option immediately.
That said, it's a good idea for everybody to set themselves up with the authenticator with the "always use" option on. The slight inconvenience is worth it for the extra layer of security.

I swear, Blizzard can't get shit right. I tried adding SMS protection to my authenticator, and I tried entering in the code it texted me, and every time it says: "The code you entered is incorrect. Please check the code you received and try again.". I tell it to resend the code, and of course it just sends the same one.

looks like nothing is selling in the AH. I threw up a bunch of yellows at 750g buyouts and nothing has sold. Might as well just vend them and not waste the time since they vend for like 300.

It's an extra layer of protection you can add to your Battle.net account. You can purchase a keyring model or use your an app on your mobile device. You tie the authenticator to your account and when logging in it will ask you for authenticator code on top of your username/password.

My lovely wife bought me the strategy guide yesterday...that thing is a whopper. Information overload, beautiful artwork though.
I can't wait to work on my demon hunter somemore tonight. i think i am gonna make her my primary character. I am leveled higher with my barbarian, but the demon hunter is too cool.
wow, does that break the records for console game sales too? I know it isn't a console release, but it would be interesting to know. What is the best selling console game? One of the Call of Duty games probably.

I think mw3 holds the record. But since that was multi plat release I think a better comparison would be a console exclusive title.

i didn't know about this authenticator. so it basically means you need to enter 2 passwords?
first password to login to battlenet then a 2nd password for the authenticator?
so if you don't have an authenticator, you can get hacked and get your account stolen?

Is it vital I get an authenticator? I don't usually play public games, just with people i have added on my friends list. Like some of you good people

The authenticator is a very good idea. It doesn't matter if you have play public games or not, as it works at login (which we all must do). Essentially, the way it works is every few seconds it generates a new one-time-use password. When you log in, you put in the authenticator password in addition to your username and password.
What this means is that even if somebody figures out your email address and password, they can't get in unless they have physical access to your authenticator as well. It's a minor inconvenience, but I think it's worth the trouble.

I added the authenticator just to be safe. You can download it to your phone easy enough. When you log into the game you put in your username and password...then it will ask for a short number code...you click on the app on your phone and in a few seconds you get a 10 digit code to type in. This way, even if someone had your password, they still could not get into your account. If you keep your phone by you when playing, it really is not that big of a deal.

it is free...if you use android...just go to the market and type in battle authenticator.....then log into battle.net and link it. On battle.net it has links to other phone versions. If you don't have a phone that can use it, they sell a little keyring for 6 bucks free shipping that does the same thing.

The app is free and if you have a major smartphone (iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows) you can download it from the app store for your device.
If can't/don't want to download the app you can get a keychain fob from Blizzard for $6.50: http://us.blizzard.com/store/search.xml?q=authenticator
