Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

To continue a previous conversation, I have a lead on getting the script to check out and see if the structure and story flaws that are there now were always there. Turns out a friend is friends with the producer. Gonna see what I can shake out of it.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

Can someone tell me if the formula for the game ever changes?

1. Get a case
2. Investigate 5-10 clues
3. Talk to victim or lead suspect & look at clues
4. Talk to next suspect
5. Chase or question suspect for confession
6. Repeat for 15-20 straight missions!!!!

Does this game ever do anything different from mission 1 to the last mission? I can't play it anymore... it feels like work.

Welcome to L.A. Noire....it gets a tad different towards it last two hours and is actually pretty decent but sorry to tell ya....that's pretty much it. Like Groucho mentioned previously.....it is cool to go back to cases and try them again because of the different elements added when you do your cases differently but you're not in that mindset right now.

I have to admit....I'm loving the street crimes in this game - while they do get repetitive, they are entertaining - "Cosmic Rays" and "Camera Obscura" are pretty crazy.

I also think it's cool that you can take a seat on any bench or shoe shine station in free roam as well - there are more one liners from the NPC's then I thought.

I originally traded this game in for Mortal Kombat but the girlfriend came back into town and purchased this for me while she was away so I said F it and kept it.....kinda glad I did now. The slip of the tongue case was one of the best cases - the naked city was pretty boring though.

I'll probably keep it and get thru a case or two per week. I'm too backlogged to force my way thru a game that is tedious IMO.

Regarding street crimes, I found it comical that I got an achievement for hunting down a guy who stole someone's shoes and shooting him and his buddy in the back Seems a big aggressive for a petty crime but maybe that's how they did it back in the 40's.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

For those of you that are still hunting cars for the Auto Enthusiast achievement, you can look at the silhouette in the showroom and then immediately back out and go into Free Roam. The last car you viewed will inevitably be in a nearby parking lot or driving around the street right near where you spawn.

It's just like all the other RockStar games in that once a car is spawned, then that model floods the street after you get into it.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but there are only 3 days left to get the Rockstar Pass for 800 MS points. On June 14th it goes up to 960 points.

I went ahead and grabbed the pass even though I don't have the game yet, because I know that I'll at least rent it eventually.

So it sounds like the comment in the latest Southpark about this game is actually accurate? It sounded and looks like a cool game!

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

I find it just right to play a case or two a night. It would get repetitive doing a 3-hr mission.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

I do like playing up Phelps's asshole tendencies. Now if someone hits me while I have a siren on, I hit their car back. One pickup ran me over while I was getting to my car on foot. I got out of my car, pulled the guy out of his truck, then drove down the street and smashed it into the side of a store. Then I went back into my car and drove away.

My partner said something like, "Jesus, what's with you?" which was just great.

Glad someone mentioned the South Park episode - I also love how much people look into things way too deep into the comments section as well

I like how people are misreading the South Park clip, thinking it's validating their criticisms against the game.

It's funny cause it's intended to work both ways.

That Electrplating case looks pretty damn good too...even if there is barely any gameplay involved....I would like to see what they did with Howard Hughes involvement.

tl;dr. Those of us that have finished have already posted our thoughts. Why don't you compare and contrast yourself when you finish? Don't make us tell you we agree or disagree with something you haven't read yet or write things you won't read because you're behind.

I agree with nearly everything he said, but came away with a less favorable overall opinion of the game. The design of LA is amazing, but the game gives you little reason to explore it for any reason other than to appreciate the work that went into it. The motion capture technology is great, but they didn't trust it enough and used ridiculous overacting to convey lying. The cases are a neat idea, but get old due to repetitiveness and the frequent lack of logic if your line of thought doesn't follow exactly what the game's creators were thinking. The overall story was decent, but the dialog had no flexibility to adapt to the player and often came off as absolutely ridiculous. All in all, nice ambition, but failed execution. At least it was less of a failure than Heavy Rain. Anyway, I agree immensely with the author's point that it seems developers are unable to balance effectively telling a good story and giving the player a high degree of freedom. I look forward to the day when a team gets it right.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

I'm almost at the end of disc 2, but what I really don't like about the game is that what you do or say doesn't really change much of anything. Someone mentioned Heavy Rain being a failure, but at least in that game if you fucked up then that was it. The game just kept going and you had to live with whatever outcome you got. It made for some really good conversation amongst friends because out of four of us that played it, we each had completely different experiences with the game and the way it ended.
