Don't you still need Playon to watch Netflix on a PS3? Or does this flash update allow Netflix to work through the brower as well?

I've started a thread. :)

South Park studios and Comedy Central do not work. They seem to have some extra java script the PS3 browser doesn't like. I'll keep trying others.

I did get movies to work on Hulu, but only watched about 20 minutes. They didn't work last night, but the Hulu site was also really slow last night so that may have been the problems. Only hassle is you have to set up your account (for R rated films) on your PC. Actually I tried this and still couldn't seem to access my account so no rated R movies on the PS3.

Does the 2.50 firmware update happen automatically when I start up the PS3 or do I have to go somewhere to DL it?

You can click on the update icon in the options menu. If you try and go online it should prompt you to update the firmware.

BTW, I just noticed another feature in 2.5 I hadn't seen before. I know the PS3 has official licensed divx support and now it looks like you can play any divx VOD content. On the PC you buy or rent the video and they give you a code. You enter the code and you can start downloading or streaming the video to watch. That option is now in the video options of the PS3.

I guess this is an additional option if you don't want to use the PS Video store though personally I don't see myself ever spending money on DRMed video.

For those still playing High Velocity Bowling, a free update is on the way tomorrow:

*Online play
*Voice chat
*Online leaderboards
*Trophies
*Playlists: "You can access the XMB while in-game for your own custom soundtracks, with support for playlists. We had custom music before, but were not able to incorporate playlists. Now with the new XMB custom music feature, you can bowl while listening to a mix of Beethoven, Frank Zappa, Britney Spears, Weird Al Yankovic, Gregorian Chants and Nirvana! And with the improved audio options, you’ll be able to crank up your tunes, character voices, and ambient sounds, OR turn them off altogether!" Source: Playstation.Blog
*More trickshot challenges
*New Ball bags
*Alley selection
*Promise of more add-on content

Not bad. Not that I play the game much at all. :(

I have it and not being able to change the music volume bugged the hell out of me. Welcome addition. I will be playing this again.

How so?

I think I suck at it.

Or it's just REALLY hard. I don't seem to be fully in control of my Ooch. It must take HOURS and HOURS of play to pass some of these objectives. Not to mention the trophy objectives.

darkside 10-15-08 05:05 PM

Many of the trophies in PAIN are just stupid hard. I have zero of them and no interest in even trying. The easy ones require you to buy extra characters and that isn't happening either.

has anyone seen any MGS PS3 bundles anywhere.

My nephew wants a PS3 and I am not sure what to get but from what I have read, the MGS4 bundle is the one to get.

Spicollidriver1 10-15-08 06:12 PM

The msg bundle can pretty much only be found online now, and it is going for over retail

leahcim 10-15-08 06:21 PM

Cool, thanks for the help.

What PS3 system should I get for him.

he does not care about Backwards games and really, they only want it for a few PS3 games a year and for Blu Ray use.

I've seen a few out in the wild here and there - last saw one at Best Buy about a week ago. They're still out there, but it is getting more sparse.

leahcim 10-15-08 06:39 PM

So brick and mortar is a better bet than online?

Brewc 10-15-08 07:06 PM

4 msg bundles at my local walmart

leahcim 10-15-08 07:19 PM

So what advantages are there to the 80 gig MGS bundle as opposed to the regular 80 gig and the new 160 gig coming soon?

Michael Corvin 10-15-08 07:21 PM

There's a 160 on the way? -ohbfrank-

[BD/DVD Settings] has been renamed to [Video Settings].
So they changed the name of this section of the settings, but still kept the BD audio settings under it instead of moving it to sound settings. I'll admit that I'm nitpicking, but that just doesn't make sense.

And wow, did that take a long time to download. I usually don't have trouble with PlayStation downloads, but this one took over an hour.

Music 10-15-08 07:44 PM

That was the fastest download for me for a newly released update. Of course it did jump to 10% in the first few seconds

I think it restarted twice though....

dsa_shea 10-15-08 08:20 PM

It seemed like the fastest download of an update of any we've had so far. It downloaded and installed it in what seemed like less than 10 minutes.

Shagrath 10-16-08 07:04 AM

It took close to an hour for me.

shumway 10-16-08 08:55 AM

I left the room but I know it was only at like 10% for me after about 10 minutes.

aktick 10-16-08 10:17 AM

Couple questions...I've used my PS3 almost exclusively for watching Blu-rays, but got some games cheap for it that I'm interested in, so I was curious about some peripherals/accessories:

-EyeToy? I remember seeing some videos about this a while back, and it looked cool, but is it worth picking up? What games are there that make use of it?

-Bluetooth headset - Should I get one? I'm getting Little Big Planet, and maybe SOCOM depending on reviews. If I need one, any particular recommendations?

-Controllers - I just have the one that came with my 40gb PS3. I thought they were releasing a different one, maybe that just added rumble? Any good reason to get one other than the one I have?

Thanks. :)
