Tivo for me.

slop101 10-10-08 01:10 PM

Wait, you can charge the PS3 controller through the Wii while it's off? I didn't even know the Wii had a USB socket.

Michael Corvin 10-10-08 01:43 PM

You have to have WiiConnect turned on so that it stays in low power mode if I'm not mistaken.

stingermck 10-10-08 02:39 PM

I charge my controllers with my PC which is usually on anyway.

darkside 10-10-08 03:15 PM

I charge mine with whatever is on. Even the the BD player and cable box have a usb port to charge stuff.

Decker 10-10-08 03:35 PM

I charge mine off the cable box. It's right next to the PS3. Why would anyone ever pay $30 for that cord? And I thought the plug & play was a waste of money, but compared to that cord, they're absolutely essential.

YMMV on this on, but apparently there is a deal right now through the 16th where if you buy Pixeljunk Eden you get the PJ Monsters Encore for free.

Spicollidriver1 10-11-08 01:00 PM

OK guys you know whats funny this exact same conversation was going on this week about charging except the headset over in the 360 thread. I was wondering (don't want to sift through isn't this thread a little long) if there are any other sets coming out I know there was a rumor about I believe and Uncharted one. Is there any others?

To elaborate just a bit, I too saw this deal, over at ps3fanboy.com.

You apparently purchase PixelJunk Eden and then receive an email with a voucher code for Encore. Too bad I already have Encore. If I didn't, this may have gotten me to purchase Eden.

I got the email, but it said the soundtrack was free. Maybe you have to own Monsters to get Encore free?

I'm pretty sure this only works if you are a Playstation Underground member and got the email. There is more than 1 offer, depending on which PixelJunk games you already have, I believe.

I didn't get the email but just saw it on the Playstation Underground and PS3Fanboy. I already have monsters, encore and eden. It would be awesome if they just sent me something for free for buying all of them day one, but als. Hopefully enough people buy in to this promotion to keep this great game company producing great titles.

Firmware 2.50 coming ...

  • Support for the PS3 Official Bluetooth Headset - we’ve told you about the upcoming Bluetooth Headset and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation Bundle on the Blog. This latest firmware installment enables High-Quality (HQ) mode, which delivers clear and wide-band online voice chat. On top of that, an added on-screen indicator shows battery status, volume level and use of HQ mode.
  • PlayStation Trophies interface enhancements - I know that many of you are busy collecting trophies and raising your PlayStation Trophy level. This update makes sharing and comparing your trophies with your friends even easier. On 1st part of the profile page you’ll see a symbol under level that represents level and the actual percentage towards the next level along with the existing level meter. The level symbol carries over to the trophy comparison screen where you will now be able to see your level, your friend’s level and the percentage towards the next level for both users along with all of the game by game comparison information you see today.
  • Friend status – Offline friends on your Friends list will have information below their avatars that will indicate how long it has been since they were last online.
  • Video – This update adds the Scene Search feature similar to the feature on the PSP. Activating this feature while viewing a video on the PS3 will break the video up into scenes that you can quickly access by pressing the X button. You can break the videos into one, two or five minute intervals. In addition, you can now choose to have all of the videos under the video section of the XMB play in sequence. Go to Settings then Video Settings to turn this option on.
  • PlayStation Store – We’ve added a redeem codes option right on the store to make it easier to redeem your PlayStation Network Cards and promotion codes. In addition, PlayStation Network Sign Up and Account Management have been redesigned.
  • Power Save Settings – You can now set your PS3 and wireless controllers to turn off automatically after set periods of inactivity. Go to Settings then Power Save Settings to turn on these features.
  • Background Downloading - You now have the option to set the PS3 to turn off automatically after a background download or installation of content has completed. This option is available when you turn off the system from the button under [Users] while content is being downloaded or installed.
  • In-game Screenshots - this tool will allow everyone to capture, share and in other words, immortalize their favorite gameplay moments. This will be supported on a game by game basis. Please check back to find out which games will support this feature.
  • In addition to all of the features above there are some additional features and enhancements included in 2.50. Once the update launches, you can read all of the details here.

 for background downloading.

The rest I don't really need.

 to that one. We were just complaining about that in the PS3 vs. 360 thread.

Awesome that they are making progress, only still barely getting to where the 360 was two years ago. :( They should blaze their own trail more instead of just playing catch up. More things like the In-Game Screenshot function.

... and give me a FLASH update dammit!

XavierMike 10-13-08 11:11 AM

The Power settings is great. It will make charging controllers easier, and they will turn off if you are watching a movie!

Background downloading will be nice too.

And the current trophy view system is clunky, so that will be nice too.

darkside 10-13-08 12:04 PM

I don't know if they will ever get the interface and features all the way caught up to 360, but at least the are trying. The power settings is a much welcomed feature especially since their downloads take forever to finish.

Haha, I had just come to this thread to post that information-- thought it was funny given the current discussion-- but I see that I was beaten to it!

Raul3 10-13-08 03:40 PM

It should be a really good update.

Of course with the NXE they'll have a lot to catch up.

But I still think the XMB should develop its own personality.

darkside 10-14-08 10:38 AM

Here is something different. The 2.5 update is supposed to hit tomorrow (at least for Europe, US may get it Thursday as usual) and they are updating the browser to Flash 9. That makes the PS3 capabile of playing a crap load of online content and handling websites better. It is rare for a non PC to get Flash 9 so this is really a big update.

Michael Corvin 10-14-08 10:46 AM

So does that mean site like Hulu would work? My Tivo cut off the Unit last week (football running late) and I've been wanting to see it. Not desperate enough to watch it at my desk though.

I checked my system out yesterday and apparently I hadn't downloaded the last update.

Must have been the FW upgrade that was prompted only for users in Japan.

Flash 9 was one impediment to accessing sites like Hulu. Whether or not it was the ONLY impediment, we'll find out. If hulu DOES become usable on the PS3 with this update, it will be HUGE... at least IMO.

I'm pretty sure FW updates are always launched globally simultaneously.

And in my experience, Thursday is not the day of choice, usually.

Yeah, that one wasn't a forced update because it only changed things for Japanese PS3s.

Whether Hulu will work is the big question. Flash 9 is definitely a big part of it and the question will be whether the PS3 browser is missing anything else that would keep Hulu from working. I definitely agree that direct support for Hulu will be huge. I think Youtube was already working with the last browser update, but getting Flash 9 should open up a lot of online video options.

Also, I'm definitely not sure when we get it here. They only confirmed tomorrow for Europe. Hopefully we all get it the same day. I think you are right and we usually get the firmware the day before the store updates.
