Which controller/system features do you prefer? Get that one. It's a single player game so online functionality isn't a huge deal.

I believe it was "developed for" the PS3 and "ported" to the 360, but they're identical. Go with the version who's console's controller you like better.

DVDGamer 12-17-08 06:27 PM

Thanks for the inputs. I know graphically games may be different at times, as well as the way they control. Since they are identical, I'm going with the 360 version as I mostly use PS3 for Blu. I wish there was a thread that lists games available in both versions and provide comparisons between the versions available.

I honestly can't think of a single multi-console game that is notably better on the PS3.

Michael Corvin 12-17-08 09:21 PM

Burnout Paradise is the only one that comes to mind right now. Even then I recall there were still a couple of areas that were better on the 360, but overall I think PS3 scored higher across the board.

kaze0 12-18-08 06:53 AM

Grr.Keep missing this when its $40 at Amazon. And buy missing I mean stupidly not ordering when I notice it.

Wick 12-18-08 07:24 AM

I pre-ordered this game at EB Games, so they upgraded my pre-order to their Limited Pre-Order Edition, for free. The game comes in a two disc set, with both discs on one of those three disc spindles. Anyways, when I took the game disc out for the first time, I took a look at the shape it was in and noticed a bunch of marks that didn't seem to be scratches, but were weird nonetheless. I think I saw one light mark that looked reminiscent of a scratch.

I played it for four hours the other night and I didn't run into any problems, but I noticed some weird things this morning when I was playing:

- The game seemed to be lagging at some parts. I did the God's castle (the one who gives Ellika here powers,) and a couple of surrounding areas and noticed minor framerate problems and noticed the game would stutter a bit.

- One Ellika froze for a few seconds and didn't do anything until I moved to another area of the platform we were on. She also hovered and meditated in mid air which I'd never seen before, but I guess it's an animation the developers included.

- One time, I made a jump, did a wallrun and then jumped to another wall. In the middle of my second jump, the game froze for about 30 seconds. I thought it had locked up but it eventually started up again and the Prince continued his jump.

I'm considering returning the game to EB because it seems like there is something wrong with the game disc. I doubt they'll have any of the Limited Edition sets left but I honestly don't care because I hate the packaging and I don't really have any desire to own any of the stuff on the second disc. Before I do that though, I wanted to ask two things:

1) Have you noticed any glitches in the game reminiscent of what I'm referring to? The framerate got a bit better after about an hour but it was still a noticeable lag problem.

2) Anyone who owns the Gamestop/EB Games Pre-Order Edition: Did your game disc come damaged?

Thanks in advance

Wick 12-18-08 08:17 AM

I forgot to mention that I bought the 360 version.

PixyJunket 12-18-08 08:28 AM

Wick, I've got the 360 version and put in a couple of six hour sessions and had ZERO problems. No lag, no slowdown, no freezing, no glitches, nothing. And yes, the limited edition is a turd. I mean, it's absolutely lovely that they made it a free pre-order bonus but the bonus disc is weak sauce, the soundtrack is about 10 minutes long and only playable over a DVD player. Plus, I would have liked the special cover to be the game case instead of a slip cover. Needless bitching for sure, but just my two cents.

Wick 12-18-08 08:35 AM

Thanks for the reply, Pixy. I guess it's just my copy. I posted the same questions on Gamefaqs' Prince of Persia forum and someone replied saying it's maybe my 360 getting old but I just had my Elite replaced in August, and they sent me a new Elite, manufactured in June of this year. So, I doubt it's that.

I guess I'll try to take it back today or tomorrow if I have the time. I think I would actually RATHER them give me the Regular Edition in exchange because I would rather have a disc in good shape, as opposed to another marked disc with a shitty bonus disc and an annoying slipcover that's completely unnecessary.

If it wasn't for the problems I had last night, I probably would've just kept the marked disc because the marks didn't look like scratches (they looked more like those marks that randomly appear on discs and look like dust particles that were pressed into the disc and made a mark, if you know what I mean,) but maybe they were scuffs; I don't know. There were quite a few little marks making up big groups of marks in three areas on the disc. For a while, I was considering trading it in as soon as I finish it, which is something I rarely do because I'm a collector. So, that's one of the reasons the marks didn't bug me as much as usual. But, I'm starting to like the game more than I did then and I'd like to have it in my collection because its look/gameplay is unique and it'd be a great game to show friends.

By the way, I added you on XBOX Live. My gamertag is Wick98.

Just finished this tonight with 1001 lightseeds. Absolutely beautiful game! I loved the Sands of Time trilogy, and I loved this just as much, if not more. I'm gonna go back through one of these days so I can get the "speed run" and "go easy on her" trophies. Awesome, just awesome...

darkside 12-20-08 10:49 PM

Gamestop has dropped it to $40. Sounds like my next PS3 purchase.

Edit: They only had the limited edition on the 360 so I picked it up for that console. Played about 3 hours of it tonight and love it. BTW, no way I could get through this with less than 100 rescues. Feels like she is saving me every other jump. Picking up the LE for $40 at Gamestop is a pretty good deal on a game that just came out.

RocShemp 12-27-08 03:45 PM

Gah! I just have two light seeds left to find (in the King's Gate of the Ruined Citadel) but I can't for the life of me figure out where they are! :hairpull:

Michael Corvin 12-27-08 03:54 PM

So it sounds like these lightseeds are easier to find than the orbs in Crackdown.

I just got all 1001 of these last night. The orbs are MUCH easier than in Crackdown! It's just a matter of finding out which region you have to go through and covering every area there.

RocShemp 12-27-08 06:05 PM

I finally got all 1001 lightseeds! :D And, despite the fact that I still hate the ending
Spoiler:
(it should have ended with the Prince leaving Elika on altar and departing for parts unknown)
, I am already looking foward to playing it again!

This is definitely Game Of The Year material as far as I'm concerned.

Haha, I'll bet I know the EXACT two that you're missing, cause they gave me trouble too. Make your way to the next area, and then make your way back. There are two hidden in a little alcove to your right (if you're going back to King's Gate from the next area). Watch this if you need more help...(You'll see it at about the 7 minute mark).

I don't need to watch the video because you described exactly where I found the last two lightseeds. But thanks a lot. :)

darkside 12-27-08 06:49 PM

I'm nearly finished with this one. Still have to clear 2 more fertile grounds and one more mini boss before the finale. I really have enjoyed it. Okay, I dislike the combat. If I never play another game with a quick time event it will be fine with me. However, they realized the combat was weak and minimized it in the game. This was really the game I wanted Assassin's Creed to be, but the repetitive missions, combat and stealth aspects ruined the experience. This game gets all the exploration right and I can't wait for a sequel.

I know it has been criticized for being too easy, but honestly I'm glad games are finally evolving past stupid check points and constant death to learn a level. I grow bored of that and that is the main reason I hated games like Halo and Gears of War. This one gets it right. You miss a jump, you can quickly start right back and try again. No long death scene, no reloading a level. You just play and have fun. One of my favorite games of the year.

RocShemp 12-28-08 01:11 AM

I know what you mean, darkside. To me Assassin's Creed was just a poor Hitman clone (but with none of the latter's multiple paths to victory since all the assassinations boiled down to a boring hack-block-counter-block-slash affair) hidden under excellent parkour-lite gameplay.

Prince of Persia eliminates all the tedium and sticks to what's fun. Even the combat is great once you take the time to master the combo tree. However, if the fighting isn't your cup of tea, they are very few of them to get through. Best of all, the final boss is a large enviromental puzzle where you get to use most of the Prince's acrobatic abilities to full effect.

On the combat. I would say most of my irritation was with the quick time events. I got the hang of the blocking and combos and really didn't have any major issues clearing the 4 mini boses.

Edit: Finished the game and overall I liked the ending.
Spoiler:
I like the idea of defying the will of God (Ormazd in this case) and the fact the cycle got repeated
Also loved that the final encounter used all of your exploring skills instead of your sword. I finished with 937 light seeds. I may go back and get 1001, but even if I don't play it any more it was one of my best purchases this year. I did not get the speed demon achievement so it took me longer than 12 hours to complete. Definitely don't feel cheated by the length of the game.

RocShemp 12-28-08 07:59 PM

I like the concept behind the ending, darkside. But the excecution was poor. It just felt as if they finished the game and though "this game could use a twist ending. Let's slap one on." It just didn't feel earned. Everything before the actual ending, on the other hand, felt like a natural progression of events. It felt right even if it was sad. They tried to go darker and I feel it's forced.

PopcornTreeCt 12-28-08 08:20 PM

I had no idea that I had to slice those trees at the end. I would've just put the game down and never picked it up again if it weren't for the Achievement.

RocShemp 12-28-08 08:31 PM

Didn't you notice how the camera panned to each tree after you exit the temple? Given what the Mourning King did, I found it quite obvious. It also helped that the first time I played the game I immediately climbed each platform hoping to find something. So once that final camera pan happened, it was easy to guess what to do next.

It's odd that I got the Speed Demon achievement during my first playthrough. I had almost 800 lightseeds and listened to every conversation you could trigger between Elika and the Prince so I was suprised I played for less than 12 hours.
