That's what I would think too - but they said the codes will be mailed on Aug 15th, and the game isn't out until Oct 21. It would be tough to return an emailed code.

I wonder if it'll be anything like the Rock Band Disturbed pack where everyone can get it for free online.

There's 3 versions -- the regular version at $60, the Collector's Edition at $80, and the Survival Edition at $130. The only difference between the Collector's Edition and the Survival Edition is the PipBoy, so it's basically a $50 collectible. Looking at it that way is what's keeping me from pulling the trigger on ordering it.

The Collector's Edition, for those who care, includes an art book, a making-of DVD, and a Vault Boy bobblehead. It also comes in a metal lunchbox. $20 for all of that seems much more reasonable than $50 for the PipBoy, and if I cared about video game making-ofs or art books, I'd be all over that deal.

Well, if he killed a lot of stuff with the rebound approach, it's possible. It seems like you get massive points that way.

Because I ain't above doing what you describe above.

Here's the IGN Hands-On preview of Fable 2 Pub Games

Anyone know how big the PipBoy is? It says "life size" but isn't it a wrist unit in the game? I'll admit that's an interesting and tempting bunch of tchotchkes, but yeah, the pricing is a little aggressive. Not that I need more toys, er, collectibles, and I don't really care about "making of" (though I do like artbooks).
I'm interested in both Fable and Fallout, but upgrading those to even the CEs will be expensive.

This just in : among the downloadable content exclusively in the CE of Fable is this "Otherworldly Bonus"

Thinking about getting it now...

Quake1028 08-10-08 11:43 AM

I think the Fable II and Fallout 3 CE's will be worth it. Gears 2 also.

Here's a heck of a deal : Fable II LE (MSRP $79.99) for preorder at Circuit City.com for $69.99 and they give you an instant $10 GC by email and will email the Pub Games code to you 8/13/08. I jumped on that deal.

Link

edit : maybe they removed the GC now. It's no longer in that link. Still a good deal, but not as good.

Spicollidriver1 08-10-08 02:48 PM

The giftcard deal is there for Gears of War 2 though

Brent L 08-10-08 04:03 PM

I bought Braid totally blind earlier today, based just off of review scores, and holy crap what a game. I'm almost shocked there isn't a thread here dedicated to it. It's easily one of my favorite games of this year, XBLA or otherwise.

I don't know. I mean, it's very good and it's beautiful, but still, it seems overrated to me. I like thinking puzzles and it's an impressive game in that respect, but this "Game of the Year" or "Among the best of all time!!!" talk? That I just don't get.

Having said that, yes, it's a great game and absolutely worth 1200 points. Especially now that they're on sale at Target this week (STOCK UP!).

Michael Corvin 08-10-08 04:47 PM

Personally I wouldn't say $15 is worth stocking up on, but hey, it's a pretty solid deal. I'll probably nab 1 myself.

Hey, consider it the ability to get 25% off ALL Live Marketplace purchases, and it seems like a better deal. With all Target coupons dead, this is likely to be the best deal you'll see for a while. Thank God I bought over $100 in points when I got those cards at $12.50 each with coupon in June. I don't think we'll see a deal like that again soon (let alone the Jedi-mind-trick some pulled off for the $5 cards during that sale).

fumanstan 08-10-08 05:25 PM

I picked up a couple myself, and another for my friend.

FusionX 08-10-08 07:10 PM

I'll grab extra points anytime they're below the regular price. I still have a ton of points left from Christmas (my ex got me 40,000), but I think 14.99 is a good price to grab a few at. And I was one of "the lucky few who used hypnosis and inter-dimensional mind control on the world's only uninterested in being store coupon police, distant, minimum wage worker at Target" and scored a pile of $5 cards. 25% off is still 25% off to me, regardless.

I had a 10% coupon that had one day left until expiration, so I used it as well on 3 cards for myself.

tonyc3742 08-10-08 07:33 PM

Yeah, when something rarely goes on sale, any sale is a deal.
40,000? That's, what, 600$ in "real" dollars (at MSRP, not counting bulk discounts)? Wow. Of course, if I could have gotten them at the 5 or even 10 dollar price, I would definitely 'stock up' too.

I agree. Beating the entire game this morning - without any help - has probably been one of the most satisfying experiences I've had with a 360 game, arcade or not.

The 40,000 points were a gift, I'd never stock up to that extent in a normal situation.

She gave you $500 in MS points? Why on earth did you break up with her?
:hscratch:

Another early announcement. Shred Nebula will premiere on XBLA on September 3rd. I know what you're thinking -- "Thank God, I thought we'd NEVER get a space-based shooter on the XBLA!". Well now your prayers have been answered.

Here's some very brief footage. It'll give you the idea.

Because life is about more than money and/or video games?!?

pinata242 08-11-08 10:36 AM

Anybody else find their love affair with GW2 coming to an end? I think I've basically peaked on all the modes I enjoy. I'll probably keep going until I finish Sequence as I get consistently get to 18 or 19 on it.

But I don't think I'll ever get past my current Deadline, Evolved, or Waves scores. Pacifism is still my favorite mode, but I don't know how often I'll fire it up.

Not sure about Bionic Commando this week as I never really gave the NES one the attention it deserved back in the day. Probably will get it for that reason alone, but it's the only one remaining I'm not sure about.

Galaga is a definite.

Castle Crashers is a definite unless it comes in at like 2400 points. I can go 1600 on it right now.
