That is expected, but terrible news. I'll probably skip this now unless some landmark DLC makes me pick it up used. I was really hoping to see the user created stuff fill in some gaps, stuff we'd never see otherwise.

MIDI thing is Guitar Hero's secret weapon. Cool for PS3, gimped for 360.

Still buying this game, but the 3 minute time limit and cover police will allow me to curb my expectations greatly.

I have a feeling this will not turn out like Activision planned. Will be popular for a couple of months while people play with it then it should fill up with junk and turn into a wasteland.

Here's some chatter from Neversoft and Kotaku -

Moreover, Brian doesn’t know of any artists that have exclusive deals with Rock Band or with Guitar Hero, so beloved songs will always be available to both factions. |
Does anyone know if DLC will be intigrated into the world tour mode? I never liked how it was always seperate in GHIII.

I really hope Red Octane will flood the market with GH:WT faceplates, drum kit-dress-ups, drumsticks, guitar straps and other stuff to deck out your band. Even have something you can submit your band logo to them and they print it on.

Somewhat serious. I have kids that will want this tchotchke.
Cannot and still cant find anything retail for Wii. The 360 stuff is already in the clearance bin. And buying all this fluff-stuff added together would not equal the 800.00+ or so odd dollars needed to go to a 360. Its just not going to happen anytime soon if ever. The cost of the system, all new discs, DLC, a monthly online account payment, all new guitars etc. |
800
|
I think you're exaggerating the cost just a touch there. Besides some of it is constant as you don't have GH drums or the game yet on the Wii anyway.
DLC is optional, obviously, and if you aren't using it on the Wii anyway, its not like you'd have to rebuy. |
Blah, not interested. Will stick to the RB franchise, I guess. :(

What do you mean by "online access"?

Dont you need an XBL account in order to play online?

Seriously if you are making this an exclusive music playing machine (which in my case it would be) you factor in paying a monthly fee just to have online access (which is free on Wii). So the actual cost is higher.
"Online access" for XBOX Live is roughly $3 a month and an amazing value. XBOX live subscription should never be used as a cost negative because it is nominal at best. |
Should Xbox Live even be a factor? Do you play Rock Band online on the Wii?

DLC is optional, obviously, and if you aren't using it on the Wii anyway, its not like you'd have to rebuy. Xbox 360 Pro*: $260 Rock Band 2 bundle: $190 Xbox Live: $39 DLC: $0 (like pinata said, this shouldn't be a factor since you aren't paying for it now) Extra Guitar: < $20 via Craigslist Total: $509 Plus you can sell your Wii Rock Band gear / extra guitar to help offset the cost ($75-$100?) So you are looking at $400 to make the switch to a high-def system, 5.1 surround and have access to all the dlc. *Saw on CAG that RadioShack has the 360 Pro at $225 right now, making your total even cheaper($474). :) Peer pressure...Peer pressure...Peer pressure...Peer pressure...Peer pressure...Peer pressure...Peer pressure...Peer pressure...Peer pressure... |

Console $300 One year XBLA $40 Rock Band 2 bundle $170 Extra guitar $60 Total: $570 You can even go lower if you get the 20 GB 360 for $260 and if you get a Les Paul for $40 instead of a second RB2 guitar. Those changes would knock it down to $510. |

Arcade system: $200 Warranty: $50 (if it's still that) Hard Drive: $60 Full game: $200 The "other" game (disc only): $60 Another guitar + another GH game: $90 DLC + a borrowed/rented RB1 disc: $5 So $665 for the following: Rock Band 2, and GH:WT, and GHIII, 55 DLC songs from RB1, and a full band kit. Or, the cheap version: Arcade system: $200 Hard drive: $60 Game + guitar: $100 DLC + a borrowed/rented RB1 disc (if you go RB2): $5 Total price... $360 |
I agree, the upgrade to the 360 version would really be worth it, just for the DLC alone. The Wii version just seems incredibly gimped.

I'm not trying to convince you either way because it isn't my money or my experience. I understand the cost of entry, but at what point do you step back and look at all the features every side offer. With each decision one way or the other, you make the switch harder and harder to justify. I'm just saying if there was a time to move away from the Wii, the time is now (or on 10/19 or 10/26). Selling the Wii stuff is a great idea, but if you're going to do it, do it soon. |

Free beats having to pay a monthly fee wouldnt you agree? Not at all. XBOX online costs, even at $3 a month, blows everything away. As an owner of all 3 systems at one point, there is not even a shaky argument that can be made against XBOX Live. Wii and PS3 are just on a different planet. |
