^I'm really looking forward to this one, but seriously get Call of Duty. NOW!

RyoHazuki - did you like other games in the MK franchise or did you find most of them suffered these same problems?

I also am very disappointed in the game. I completed both story modes, played some online, and played some arcade mode. The controls are about as horrible as one could make them be in a fighting game. Very stiff and sluggish, not smooth like SC4 or Virtua Fighter. The game is a novelty that is fun to play for about 10 minutes with a friend, then toss in a pile never to be seen again. Had they made it "M" rated, re-worked the entire movement/animation setup, and axed the laughable story mode, this game might have actually worked. As of right now, I'd give it a 4.5/10. That 8.5/10 is obviously a paid off higher mark than it deserves, and I expect to see many more 6's show up soon.

Sounds like I'll be switching my preorder to Left 4 Dead and just give this one a rental.

I haven't been a big fan of any of the recent MKs and this one plays pretty similar to those. The engine feels really dated.

BTW They do call him Captain Marvel in this game, not Shazam.

Goldblum 11-15-08 01:36 PM

IGN just gave the game a 7.5

NiCK Crush 11-15-08 01:43 PM

Eh, I'll rent it.

DthRdrX 11-15-08 03:48 PM

It sounds like they didn't even bother to put one secret character in! A lot of the fatalities seem lame now that the full list is out.

I had this preordered, but decided to bail as well. Goldblum, I will echo mdc3000's recommendation to pick up COD5.

There are 2....1 from MK and 1 from DC. I can't recall the names though...the 2 bosses from the story lines basically.

XavierMike 11-16-08 12:22 AM

darkseid and Shao Kahn. After the reviews I think I'll wait until I can get this for $30

kaze0 11-16-08 07:09 AM

Ugh. And Amazon already shipped this to me :(

Up until the 3d MK's weren't all the characters identical except for their special moves?

mdc3000 11-16-08 02:33 PM

I may still get this - I can swing a deal to get it for $29.99 all in new (up here in Canada with a special trade in promo)... the reviews sure sound like it's not worth full price, but maybe at $30 it won't feel like a letdown.

PopcornTreeCt 11-16-08 03:24 PM

That's disappointing news. Guess I'll stick with a rental for this one.

I assume they probably are. In 2008 though with the DC license I would expect a little better from them.

Giantrobo 11-16-08 03:59 PM

Granted, I haven't played it yet... but it seems it's the MK part of this game is what brings it down. That's sad because the DC characters will get dragged down with the poor public response to this game.

I will repeat what I said when I saw the first screens. I wish they would have made a DC only fighting game. This would have skipped right past the rating issue and offered more DC characters.

CrusaderU.2.K. 11-16-08 05:13 PM

Is the anncoucer voice in the game, and does he say things like he did in the past, when you uppercut someone , etc and so on?

Raul3 11-16-08 05:16 PM

I've seen some videos and looks like fun. However I'll wait until it hits $30 to get it.

stingermck 11-16-08 09:21 PM

Me and 2 other friends bought copies today, love it, great game. But then again I also got bored with Soul Calibur IV *Flame suit on*

Bought the Kollector's Edition tonight at Best Buy.

Let me just say that this is probably one of the crappiest cases ever for an X-Box 360 game. The top and bottom panels of the case stick out like a sore thumb and make the case look like it's broken.

The Black case inside the slip cover flips open and there is a removable print that acts as the cover art. I think it's a poorly designed case because it makes it look like the case is broken.

There is a bonus DVD and a comic inside. Not sure if this was worth the extra $10, but Oh well!

Looking forward to playing it and having a good time.

Is it true that the 360 collector's edition game doesn't come in a green case inside the box?

The game and bonus DVD are in a cardboard folder inside the crappy black case.

Wtf? Why the hell would they do that? So if you wanted to put the game on your shelf, you would have to put up that big ass case? I've seen pictures of the PS3 collector's edition and it has an unopened copy of the retail game inside with a normal case. What would possess Midway to fuck up like this on the 360 version?

Wick 11-19-08 02:28 AM

My friends and I rented this game last night. I played it for around 2.5 hours.

While it's not perfect, I'm really enjoying it. It's quite a bit of fun, even if the game is really basic and has spotty A.I. (one round they'll annihilate you and the next, they'll be a piece of cake to beat.) Overall, I recommend renting it. It's a fun diversion and I'm glad I rented it.

I usually hate fighting games because they bore me quickly (ie. Soul Calibur IV. What a waste of $68 that was. Why I bought into the hype, I do not know.) but, this game I like. Not enough to buy at full price though.
