I'm enjoying it - the story mode is OK so far and it feels like mortal kombat - except the serious lack of gore. The controls are a bit tricky (like all MK games), working sometimes and not the rest. I still have yet to master exactly what the fuck I'm doing during FALLS and CLOSE KOMBAT, but other than that, I'm having fun. It ended up costing me $19.99, so I'm pretty happy about it.

RocShemp 11-21-08 07:38 AM

How'd (were'd) you get it that cheap? Trade-ins?

Exactly. A friend and I were playing this last night and neither of us could figure out the timing, button presses, or in general what the hell to do.

Fun game though and the really shot their wad on the graphics. Very good looking game. We had no lag at all last night and played for near an hour and a half.

This might be one game where having the guidebook may actually make sense.

Up here in Canada, EB (our version of gamestop) is running a trade in Promo. Trade 2 qualifying games + $9.99 to get a new release game. I picked up two USED games at a video store for $5 each and traded them in = $19.99 Mortal Kombat!! (also got gears 2, call of duty 5 and prince of persia preorder).

Also, am I the only one who totally sucks at Kombo Challenges? The timing etc. is killing me...and of course sometimes everything will be perfect until it registers my 'back' press as an 'up' or something and my character jumps instead of doing the special move I had anticipated...blerg.

RocShemp 11-21-08 01:49 PM

I just borrowed it from a friend. What a fun game!

"KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"
"What can I say? The ladies dig me!"

RocShemp 11-21-08 03:20 PM

Am I the only one that noticed that they rendered tanlines and pokies on Sonya? Cos, um, they did...

I'm having a lot of fun with this game as well. My only problem with it is that there are some glitched achievements and I wish you could skip the cinemas. Aside from that, I'm glad I bought it.

RocShemp 11-21-08 08:30 PM

The climax was a bit of a letdown in story mode.
Spoiler:
All the cinematics moved the story foward quite nicely. However, once all the characters meet to engage in an all out brawl, it suddenly becomes a narrated picture show. :( I understand they probably couldn't give us something akin to a standout epic martial arts battle royale but a truncated version of that would have been nice. And the final battle with Dark Khan was a missed opportunity for some nice tag team fighting. In fact, the versus and arcade modes could have used a tag system in order to mix things up a bit.

Anywhere have a comprehensive list of the Fatalities and Brutalities for this game?

I'm hooked on this.Online play is so smooth for the most part, and even when theres lag, it still plays suprisingly well.

MK: KE at $45 is the current lightning deal at Amazon. 1 hour left for that prize. 89% claimed.

Edit: Deal is over. 100% claimed.

PopcornTreeCt 11-25-08 01:53 AM

This game sucks.

I'm playing this for 360. You have to absolutely use the D-pad. The D-pad sucks on the 360. However, despite the crappy D-pad the game doesn't do you any favors. I was doing the kombo thing with one of the characters. I was landing the exact combo as instructed but because my timing was off by .25% of a second I couldn't do it.

I'm a Mortal Kombat fan, I enjoyed all the 3D versions on the Playstation 2 and this game is worse than all of those. If this is next gen, how come there are less characters than choose from than the previous games? How come it's not deep at all? I know a lot of people didn't like the 3 different fighting styles of the last games, but I would've liked that a lot here.

The storyline is ridiculous. But we all knew that. The gameplay is crazy slow. Nowhere near the pace of Soul Calibur. The parts where you fall down and attack the other guy are neat, but if you're doing good the CPU can use that against you and even the match. Also, it seems like the game rewards those who are cheap. Jax would only use the same 3 moves on me, over and over again. I could only beat the last boss by use Superman wind breath move over and over again.

This game sucks. It's the worst fighting game I've played on the 360. It's 3D game, yet I'm forced to use 2D controls.

Rival11 12-26-08 05:28 PM

Ha - I love this game. The story mode is pretty terrible but the DC one is actually pretty cool.

It's just really fun to play and addictive - if you're even a small fan of either, I highly suggest buying it.

Tarantino 12-26-08 05:35 PM

I thought it was okay, but the stupid 'fatalities' are lame. Especially the 'heroic brutalities'.

= J

PopcornTreeCt 12-26-08 07:43 PM

Funny I played it again last night as I got it for Christmas. I liked it a whole lot more. I think because my expectations were so low.

And unfortunately, some of them are damn near impossible to pull off.

I got this game for Christmas and I love it. It's the best MK to be released in a long time IMO.

I've seen pictures of the PS3 collector's edition and it has an unopened copy of the retail game inside with a normal case. What would possess Midway to fuck up like this on the 360 version?

I know I'm really late to the party here, but hey, there were a ton of games that came out in a short period at the end of last year, and I finally got to this game.

Words do not describe how crappy the packaging is on the "special" edition 360 version. If the PS3 version actually does include a regular case with it, then it makes this even worse. Cardboard sleeves? CARDBOARD SLEEVES??? In the MORE expensive version of the game?

Well, at least they included a "comic book" which reminds me of the kinds you used to get with He-man toys back in the day.

Only played a little of the game itself, going through some of the DC side of the story. Admittedly, I haven't played a MK game since... MKIII? I'm basically just mashing buttons here and hoping I win, occasionally hitting the right combination to pull off a decent move. Ah well, guess I'll look up the moves online somewhere.

Just picked this up last weekend. I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm glad they took out the multiple styles. They made the fighting too cumbersome. On-line works pretty well. I wish there were more unlockables though. It would have been cool if there was a crypt like in the last few games with drawings/animations for the DC characters.

Re: Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Comics?

Ugh first let me say sorry for bumping such an old thread, I hate to be that guy.

Anyhow, seeing as this dropped to $20 I picked it up. I had recently borrowed the new MK from my brother and beaten and was back in the fighting game mood. The DC tie in seemed intriguing and believe it or not so did the toned down violence. Maybe it's just me getting older or MK getting more violent but the latest MK was a bit ridiculous. Anyhow, I've been enjoying it and have one question.

What the hell happened with online play? It seems like everyone is cheating since I literally can land no more than two punches before I get killed. Is there something that happened? I'm sure most of you have long since moved on and again sorry to bump the old thread. Still enjoying this one for $20.
