You can check the 360 thread for a deal on Live. 13 months for $30 at Best Buy. ($2.30 a month)

Those are all included in the 60GB HDD kit for $90.

$100 for the console...$90 for the 60GB starter pack (which I'd pick up with the $100 voucher).

It's just hard to rationalize when I already own a PS3, which does 90+ percent of everything the 360 does. And Live isn't the big draw for me. Rather, I'm interested in a few (just a few) of the exclusives and in more stable versions of Orange Box and Fallout 3.

...a few days to decide...will probably do it.

So if a PS3 only does everything, but the 360 does around 11% more/different things, how does one quantify what the 360 does?

You're blowing my mind!

the customizable soundtracks, for me, is pretty desirable.....although I didn't get a 360 and went with ps3. If the ps3 had customizable soundtracks, then the only draw for me would be what you mentioned as well. I wouldn't pay for Live, regardless.

I've quickly realized that the worst part of this deal is having chess bring up repeatedly the things the PS3 has over the 360. I think that might be the 25th time in the last week.

I know I've mentioned it before, but It still amazes me that people knock the 360 for not having built-in wi-fi.... Sure, it would be nice to have the option, but I have seen people refuse to buy the system because it doesn't come with it like the PS3.

I don't have my PS3 or 360 hooked up wirelessly.. I don't want to rely on less stable wireless signal when trying to play mulitplayer games.

My Wii is hooked up wirelessly but I don't play it as often or any online games.

The deal has come up twice for me, so two discussions (not 25) and having a few days to think it over is a bit different from a lightning deal where I could be impulsive.

I want the thing...just trying to figure out how much I'd use it when I have a PS3. If I had a 360 and no PS3, I'd ask the same thing about the PS3...and some PS3-douchenozzle would probably call that a console bash. -rolleyes-

Please feel free to use your ignore button, or alternatively, you could STFU. Thx.

Well up until a few weeks ago consumers were paying $100- $200 more for the PS3 with wireless and BD. It's easier to justify the extra $100-$200 when it's included in the price.

I'm with you, hardwire all the way.

Right, although i'm not saying you're bashing anything. Just saying that you've brought it up multiple times within the two threads  Don't get me wrong, I understand the decision making process, but it was funny to me that you've continued to bring it up over and over again as the reason you're see-sawing on the purchase.

Lighten up!

Some of us have what you might call "rules of engagement" for our living rooms in which LAN cables running across the floor is a non-starter.

Lack of Wi-Fi is almost a deal-killer for me.

I just didn't like being called out personally, like I was somehow ruining the thread for you with my fanboy behavior. It's a legitimately tough decision for me, and I like to bounce my thoughts off the forum.

I didn't think I was harping on anything. I'm just a bit put out that after buying a HD and Wi-Fi, I'm close to PS3 price even with this deal.

Off to check ebay for prices on used 20GB drives...

Never been an issue for me (and I imagine a lot of others) since my router/modem is by the TV, since everything but my computer is right there - 360, PS3, DTV receiver, and Vonage.

Re: Amazon Video Game Deal Thread .

* I'd like wifi built in, there's not much reason it couldn't be built in, even at a slightly higher cost to the console.
* Failing that, I'd like the wifi adapter to be much cheaper.
* That said, I don't use wifi on mine - I have a 100 foot network cable running along the walls of the room, through the foyer, into the office and plugged into the router. I don't play online often, but when I do, I don't want to risk losing my connection.

I have never made use of customizable soundtracks (if by this you mean using my own music to play in-game). If I'm playing a game, I want to listen to that game. I might turn the music down, or select tracks I do/don't want to hear, but I have absolutely no interest in putting my music into a game. The only case I could get behind that is for music games. I do use the 360 as a music player sometimes.

The PS3 might have more "stuff" but for me it's about the games. When I bought my console, the 360 had more of the games I wanted to play.

I have never had an issue using my Buffalo router flashed with DD-WRT to turn it into a wireless bridge. They're pretty cheap, support multiple devices, and can even be purchased pre-flashed if you're not into DIY.

Hell, I'm about to buy another one (this will be my fourth overall) for my new Arcade unit going in the bedroom :D

I wouldn't need THAT long of a run (probably 30 ft from my HT cabinet to my router in the office), but this is probably what I'd do as well until I ran across a cheap adapter.

I own all three next-gen (current-gen?) consoles and don't regret any of them. They all have something to offer.

Yes, I get that already :) But recalling your quick responses regarding bashing in the sales threads, it stood out to me. Especially since you seem to be contemplating not just the additional cost, but the additional cost versus what you have in your PS3. Given that you've had a PS3 I assume you paid more then $300, it feels like you're making it out to be a bigger deal then it is.

And you've also mentioned that you're real interest is in a few of the single player games. Seems like you could get the Arcade and play the games, and use the $100 later on if you want or for something else completely and not even worry about the hard drive and Xbox Live.

As a person who has all three, I've noticed the multiplatform games tend to go on sale quicker for the 360. Not always the case, but that's what I've noticed. This has saved me quite a bit of money now and I think for the most part, the quality is pretty much the same between the 360 and the ps3.

I will say that getting a router that is capable of ddwrt is one of the best ways to get the 360 wireless. An Ethernet bridge can be had for cheap too at places like frys but a router is a better overall value.

Get the console, use the $100 voucher on those 3 exclusive games you want, and worry about the extras later, if at all. You get a free month of LIVE when you start up so you will have some time to see if its worth the cost to you.
If you end up liking the system, then you can look into buying the hard drive, because as you said, you don't know how much you are going to use it, so you might not need to get a hard drive as the on board memory will be enough to hold the few exclusive games you want to play.
This is the best deal you will get until probably the new systems come out. I think it would be silly to pass on it.

Word of warning. Once you get a 360, you may find you prefer it over the PS3 and find yourself playing it more often. Be cautious.

Have you ever been on Live? Because I can only conclude that you have not as only those who haven't would make sure a retarded statement.

Live is the best thing since sliced bread and is worth every penny. I would easily pay $100 a year for Live than my normal $20 to $30 a year. All I have to do is wander around the PSN and it immediately shows how Live is worth every $2.50 (or less) a month I pay.

That's just crazy talk. Spend a little time with the background music of Uno or Peggle and you will completely retract the above. I love to sit back and relax to some Peggle or Pinball and listen to my own tunes all the time.

Have you ever played a racing game? Because having your own music for those makes the games much more enjoyable instead of having to listen to some god awful hip-hop song for the 7th time in an hour.

Want some cool new background music to Fallout 3? Throw in the "Firefly" soundtrack (or others) and it fits perfectly with the atmosphere. I could go on and on with the positives of having your own music in the game. You need to try it...you might like it.

This seems like good advice.

Any downside to playing Mass Effect, Gears of War 1/2, Dead Rising or Fable 2 without a hard-drive? Do they run differently or anything?

I paid $400 for my 60GB with an extra controller and the BRD remote, so yeah...more.

But, it was a couple of years ago when that was more the norm, and I was getting a good BRD player in the process. I also wanted to get a 60GB while I could, so my hand was forced a bit. At any rate, that's a sunk cost, and the PS3 scratches my core gaming itch very well. This deal would be different in that I would presumably play the 360 on the margins...as in single-player exclusives (which I don't think the 360 has an abundance of).

Like I said, if I'd picked the 360 then, I'd be hard pressed to buy a PS3 now...for mostly the same reason. The two systems are more alike than they are different.

You're absolutely correct that I am giving this more thought than it merits.
