Re: Amazon Video Game Deal Thread .
Man all this talk is making me wanna get the game. I played some of the first AC but was really bored. I heard they changed a bit since the first. Should I jump on this to get ready for the new one or should I just stay away?

The first one, IMO, was a repetitive snoozefest. I didn't bother finishing. I platinumed ACII. I haven't played Brotherhood yet only because I know I'll want to make that a platty as well. Backwards logic, I know... but I just don't have the time to get sucked into that right now! If you haven't played since AC you should definitely try Brotherhood at that price. |

Why play 2? I'd rather get Brotherhood for MP. |
Re: Amazon Video Game Deal Thread .
If all you are playing is the MP, then yeah, get Brotherhood. But if you want the full story, you need to play AC2 before you play Brotherhood. It's really one game broken up into two.

Re: Amazon Video Game Deal Thread .
For those who never played AC1 after hearing mixed reviews, it's going to be a bonus included with AssRev. So now you have a chance to check it out for free...

Re: Amazon Video Game Deal Thread .
Well, you create an X-men game that doesn't allow you to play as any of the X-men... who thought this was a good idea? Even with a $25 gift card I'm going to pass... they could have just made an X-men Legends 3 and I would have bought it.
Back on topic, Amazon is having a Buy 1 get 1 50% off with a small mix of games across platforms: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...29181&plpage=1 I have no idea how you get to this sale from their homepage, so credit to CAG and CheapyD for this. |

Between this and Best Buy's deal on the 2 game collections (and a reward zone certificate I had) I went from not having bought a NEW game since Killzone 3 to adding 6 games in two days for less than $100 (Ico/Colossus and the God of War Chains/Sparta combo). |

No kidding. I rented X-Men Destiny last night from Redbox. It's really rough. It plays sort of like inFamous, but no where near as fun or as pretty or as well voice acted. You have to pick your mutant style in the first few seconds of the game and there's no going back or swapping out. I picked a brawler style and nearly instantly regretted it. The game is super-easy on normal difficulty -- I haven't come even close to dying yet except once when I actidently jumped off a cliff I didn't realize was there. The combat is just button mashing. You can sometimes combo attack but there's no need to since all combat is totally cake. You have a guard button but there's no need to use it even when opponents are firing missles at you. Not even worth the $2 rental. Hope nobody actually bought this.
Buying it though... eek. Nobody should do that. And what is with Nightcrawler's outfit? |

Re: Amazon Video Game Deal Thread .
Ok, just beat the X-Men game and can comment on a few things.
The game is not very good. It is not worth 60. Nor is it worth 20. Honestly, it would have been a pretty good 10$ XBLA title. A Redbox rental is about worthwhile if you enjoy brawlers because for 2-4 bucks you can play through the kind of dumb campaign, unlock a bunch of achievements, and beat up scores of bad guys. Things that will irritate you. Bosses that have multiple stages of damage, require pattern memorization, and have unskippable cut scenes. This makes failed attempts super annoying... not because of the boss - because of the cut scene. The implication that you have a choice between dark and light is silly. The story really doesn't branch. It just gives you a different mission to unlock different passive/active abilities. So most of the abilities I unlocked were from X-Men folks instead of Brotherhood folks since I went light side. There are like two points where you are asked to pick a side. At the end whichever one you pick unlocks that achievement. Pretty dumb but at least a little fun as a brawler. I beat it and now my daughter is playing the game on the hardest difficulty with my upgraded character (for a playthrough 2) and just demolishing it. It is a pretty easy game. |
Re: Amazon Video Game Deal Thread .
There are so many things wrong with this game, it seems silly to harp on one, but one thing I found particularly funny. when you are supposed to continue to a new area by smashing through the floor, it's pretty obvious since there's no where else to go, but not only do they highlight the grate or sinkhole like it's been irradiated, but they also display a huge holographic cartoon fist (not unlike the Howard Stern logo, upside down) that goes up and down repeatedly over the grate. Every. Single. Time. It's hilarious.

Re: Amazon Video Game Deal Thread .
Amazon has just added a $20 credit when pre-ordering Battlefield 3. That was enough to get me to bite despite an ever-growing backlog of games.
