Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
The black Wiimote/motion plus and nunchuck have been announced for the US (Nov 16), but it does seem strange that there is no mention of the system.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
It looks like if you spent 500 points to get the Wii Browser, you can now go in and update and get a free NES download to make up for it.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
havent been keeping up with Wii News, so not sure if this is an old rumor or not, but mentions Netflix in '10, and a Wii-HD?? That last part sounds far-fetched.

Rumor: Blu-ray Enabled Wii 2 in 2010 Posted October 29, 2009 05:15 AM by Juan Calonge Gaming site Maxconsole.net, citing information leaked to Logic-Sunrise.com by a Nintendo France marketing employee, is reporting that a new Nintendo console will be launched worldwide in the third quarter of 2010. This "Wii 2" will reportedly get a Blu-ray drive, and support 1080p for games and movies. An official announcement will reportedly happen just one month before launch date. In the intervening months, "huge publicity and viral marketing will be utilized to create buzz" (so this post is ultimately contributing to that, right? Damned if you do...). Allegedly, there will be the option to trade in old Wii's for "Wii 2" consoles. This rumor comes just after Nintendo's profit fell by more than half in the six months from April, hit by a slump in console sales (it sold 5.75m Wiis between April and September, far fewer than the 10m it shifted in the same period last year). Some analysts are suggesting that a completely new console offers its best hope of reviving hardware sales. Sony, on the other hand, has benefited from a reduction in the price of the PS3. "The price cut on the PlayStation 3 was effective because people are getting a high spec Blu-ray disc player for a good price," said Yusuke Tsunoda, an analyst at Tokai Tokyo Securities. |
Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
I don't know how big BR is in Japan but unless its the most popular format over there you will never see it designed into Nintendo's next console. If ever.
I agree that unless they come out with something new (besides just different colors) to keep people wanting their product that they are in real trouble. No need try and compete with Sony or MS but they need to improve and expand on what they have now. Something major and something soon. |

If Nintendo releases a new Blu-ray-playing Wii 2 in 2010, I will cook and eat my own face. *

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
Whatever Nintendo does, I just hope they allow a license transfer. They will lose me on their next console if they don't.

Maybe that's that what the trade-in thing being rumored entails? |

I'm pretty sure they understand this.
Maybe that's that what the trade-in thing being rumored entails? IIRC, everything you purchase from the Wii Shop is tied to your console, right? All data you create I know is tied to your console. So the only way to move ALL your DLC, data and saves forward is to trade in. Its sad they didn't think of this flaw before but it is what it is. I do foresee that there will be outrage at first and the process (if any) will not be convenient. |
Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
You wouldn't need a physical trade in. Nintendo could set up a "Wii Id" system where you create an account, and do a one time sync-up with your console. From that point on, everything on that console is now associated with that Wii Id (similar to how MS does it with live).

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
not buying that rumor one bit.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
everything you buy from Wii Store is also recorded on the Ninentdo-Club website - or whatever thats called.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
Hell of course they'll do it. I know this because I bought one in August ... just before the price drop. It's only fitting they'd add Blue-Ray soon after.

I just hope they have the good sense to let folks keep their virtual console games.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
Exactly. They're a generation behind getting standard DVD and even at that, it currently won't even read DVD movies. You're kidding yourself you think the Wii2 is getting BD.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
Saw this on Black Friday Ads something or other. Looks to be an early Wii price drop. Not much but its something.

Rumor: Blu-ray Enabled Wii 2 in 2010 The company that put out a console in 2006 that still didn't have digital audio output (when the other two had it in the previous generation), had no HDMI out (the other two had it in this generation), and doesn't play regular DVDs, is supposed to be putting out a Blu-Ray console next year? |
