Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
The DLC is tied to the Wii you buy it on. So if he gets a new console it will have no associated DLC tied to it.
So the only way to get your DLC transferred to a new console is to allow Nintendo support work its magic for a 75$ fee.

As an update, I finally called Nintendo, and they told me that I'd either have to send it to them for repair at a cost of $75 or switch it out at Best Buy and re-buy all of the content. FUCK. I guess I'm going to hold out for a price drop on the Wii to offset the cost of re-buying the DLC. I still get sound from one speaker, so it's not the end of the world, but it's definitely annoying.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
What sucks is that Best Buy got Darknite's money on an extended warranty that is useless to him.
I never buy extended warranties for this reason. You either never end up using them or they end up biting you in your wallet because the coverage is useless.

Not being able to buy a different Wii and transfer your content to it is bullshit.

That is BS. Your content should be tied to you not the hardware.

I encountered that with mine. I had it replaced under warranty due to a video card problem--now I can't alter my avatar--sorry, Mii--because "I don't own it" or something. Luckily I hadn't bought any DLC before then, though I have a couple games now.
That's hardcore DRM.
So you can get it repaired with the warranty, but that won't include transferring your content? That does suck.

I never knew DLC was tied to the hardware and not myself. That is complete bullshit and makes me rethink buying DLC on the system.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
Someone mentioned above it is transferred over only if you pay Nintendo to repair your console if it is out of warranty. If you got an extended warranty anywhere else or if you just want to get a new Wii at some point (dunno maybe new color or console gets stolen) your DLC is not transferred. If this is true it is complete bullshit.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
There are 2 issues here it seems.
In warranty and out of warranty repairs.
In warranty and out of warranty DLC transfers. (No repairs)
If your Wii need repairs and its out of warranty they don't charge you extra to move the DLC. You only pay for the repairs needed. Moving the DLC is part of the repair process. If its in warranty then there is no charge for anything.
If you buy another Wii and you want to move your DLC to it you would have to send BOTH Wiis in for them to move your DLC from one to the other. Im not sure if they charge for this or not. I cant find anything on their website about moving DLC as a service option.

And if your Wii is stolen, Nintendo can disable all the previously purchased DLC so no one else can use it.

If they can disable the DLC so that no one else can play it, then why can't they make it so you can redownload DLC you've already paid for? makes no sense.

I'm wondering if they will transfer the DLC if you have a new Wii and your old broken Wii? Really all they would need is the serial numbers from both consoles.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
Hey guys, I have a couple of questions.
First of all, I have never connected my Wii to the internet and I've been thinking about doing that. What is the best product to buy that will allow me to do this?
Second, I was wondering if there has been any progress in porting N64 games that needed the expansion pack (such as Donkey Kong 64, which I reeeeally want) over to the virtual console yet? You'd think they would be able to achieve this, wouldn't you?

Do you already have a wireless router? If so, you don't need anything else for the Wii since it has Wi-Fi built in.
Otherwise you either need a wireless router (recommended) or the Wii's Ethernet Dongle to add a network jack to the Wii (dumb move).

I hardwire all my gaming stuff.
If you want to hardwire it, use this: http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Net-Connec...5802181&sr=8-2
Works perfectly.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
Anyone else pick up The Conduit yesterday? I found a Wal-Mart that had them out.
Impressions so far:
Graphics wise, I think it's too early to tell. The environments you start in don't lend themselves to a ton of detail. I've only gone through about 30 minutes of the single player portion.
Particle effects are nice. Depth of field blur when using scoped weapons and changing clips is pretty cool looking. The ASE effects are well done. Overall it's a good looking game (comparing to other Wii titles only). Water looks great.
I spent about an hour with the online multi-player. Played free-for all deathmatch, and some team based games. It was a little laggy at times, but mostly I think it was because I was playing worldwide rather than regional (not enough regional players to get a game going and I suspect that will change as the game is officially in most stores today).
It's a lot of fun. Didn't hear anyone on Wii speak. You can vote between round to change game parameters from level, weapon set and game type(within genre or free-for all, team objective and one other).
And as far as control and HUD customization....wow...if you can't find something you like, then you are just plain too picky.
I think the favorable reviews I've read so far are pretty much on the money.

I want to try The Conduit out. It seems that the graphics and controls are solid, but I'm interested in hearing whether the story is at all compelling. It looks like generic videogame sci-fi, and the box art/print ads look like something you'd see on an Atari 2600 cartridge.

From the couple of reviews I have read, it is the best first person shooter for the Wii but would not have been noticed if it had been released on the 360 or PS3. Even the Nintendo Power review said that.
Take that for what it's worth.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
I don't know that it's a good comparison. The Conduit is more of a shooter when compared to something like Metroid (with all it's exploration and many fewer enemies). The story if very X-Files like and it will be interesting to see where it goes.
I think it's a fair assessment to say that if it were on the PS3 or 360 it would be a solid effort but nothing groundbreaking. But, how many FPS are? Half-Life made it difficult for any FPS to stand out again (in terms of story telling and gameplay).
Compared to all other FPS's (of which Metroid is on the border of being classified) it is the best. Finally besting the controls of MOH: Heroes 2 and although it doesn't support the sheer number of players that the MOH does, it's multiplayer element is better in terms of variety.
