Looks like a Wii update just came out that allows you to launch channels (including Virtual Console and WiiWare games) right from the SD card. Nice!
I can't confirm right now, so I guess it's a rumor for now.

Virtual Console Arcade. Arcade games are supposed to be up (in Europe, so far).

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
SD card supports 240 channels - 20 pages of 12 channels/page.
Up to 32GB
That should be more than enough for the Wii, unless the Arcade games are enormous. Can download directly to SD card as well.

Figures they announce this new higher capacity SD card support after I just bought one. Ah well, at least it was only $6.

Jesus, Nintendo, is it so hard to treat the card as an extension of the storage rather than a step-child? Doesn't matter much, but you're going to have to make sure you have enough room on your Wii's main storage for whatever you're "streaming" from the SD card. Unnecessary hassle, but we'll overlook it because it's better than what we had.

SD or SDHC? Edit: yes, it does support SDHC
On another note...
Has anybody experienced their Wii overheating? A year or so ago, my Wii wouldn't turn on, I unplugged it, plugged it back in, tried different outlets, etc. and nothing. Tried it again 20 minutes later and it has worked fine since.
Last week, my neighbor's Wii quit working (3 months old). He tried the same things I had (at the time I didn't realize what actually fixed mine) and nothing. I was going to bring my power supply over to have him try it before he turned it in for warranty service, but he then found a blog on the internet that said the power supply overheats and trips a fuse. You have to unplug it from the wall and let it sit for several minutes and then it resets...this solved his problem.
Is this common?

The new SD thing works great. Very fast to load up the games. I loaded a 320 block game and it was ready to play in seconds. I can definitely deal with this for a workaround to the space issue. This will get me buying Wiiware and VC games again.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX
I think my Wii bricked last night during the update. It hung for like 20 minutes on the update screen after it finished with the download and install part. I turned off WiiConect 24 ages ago so didn't have an email about the update. I cut the power since it was toast and then plugged it back in and nothing, goes green but no output to the TV. This would be my 3rd repair back to Nintendo, assuming they would cover it since it was a launch unit.
