Is it as simple as plugging an ethernet cable from the back of the computer to the console, or is there more to it? Thanks in advance.
If you're somehow able to get this to work, post the steps you took here. I have a Verizon USB device for my Macbook, but I wasn't able to figure out a way to get that connected to my 360.

I'm paying an additional $50 a month (a rip off...but it's my only option at my apt. complex) for cable that I'm using exclusively for XBL.

I've never done this but I assume this is how it could be done. However, you said Macbook, and this indicates Windows ICS, so I'm not sure there's a MAC equivalent.

Ugh, my Xbox 360 video has a bunch of blue squares all over the video now...guess I have to hope for a red ring now to get MS to fix this.

Poor quality photo below.

Okay, the "crap" part is overrated...

I think it's more of an annoyance than "crap." Here's the deal, and i think most of you don't have this situation. When you first bought the X360, you were given free month (or two) of Gold membership. After that, most people continue with Gold membership by paying MS, no problem there... Well, i never bother with that and so whenver i use my account to play a game, after selecting my game tag, i'm prompted with the msg, update yes/no, basically wants me to convert to Gold membership. Well, obviously, all of you're Gold, so there's no msg to see. And if you sign on as the game tag that's not Gold to start with, yeah, you probably don't get to see the msg.

p.s. is it wrong, crazy to hope for a X360 2.0? Don't you think a successful console like X360 should be giving fans a 2.0 by now?

Stop telling people to suck it up all the time. No WiFi, bad... Expensive hdd upgrade, bad. As for Silver member getting "crappy" treatment, that i can suck it up. Just saying, not allowing Silvers downloading Demos a week or two after Gold, does qualify as crappy treatment, no? Yeah, i can suck it up and shut up, no problemo there. BUT we're talking about a freaking demo, right? Ask you self this, who gives a damn about demo now a day, so why even bother with that silly restriction, i don't get it... They should be paying me to play a demo now a day!

I'm actually glad for that restriction. When a hot demo or new content come out and everyone is trying to download it there are many times issues with slow speeds etc. (like the CoD4 and Halo 3 map packs).

I want the Silver crowd to wait a few days so those of us paying for the service (and therefore the infrastructure allowing the downloads) can get the best speed we could possibly get.

I was Silver for a short period of time in between renewing. Not once did I see a message urging me to upgrade to Gold.

Based on your description, I think you're seeing the message asking if you want to update the firmware.

Apparently you do if having to wait a few days qualifies as, in your words, crappy treatment.

I do agree that I think the 360 should have the built-in option to go wireless, and that the monopoly on first party storage means the hard drives are ridiculously priced; I'm not sure if there's a technical reason for the fact you have to buy "their" hard drive, or that's just the way they want it, but the pricing is atrocious.
Gold vs. Silver--Aren't the only differences online gaming (incl leaderboards?) and getting some content 1 week or so early? If so, I don't see a problem with that. You're paying in part for the matchmaking functionality, and the Gold/Silver download thing can be seen as a justifiable way for them to space out their download demands. I don't think it's crappy treatment, it's a perk for paying customers.

That looks like what I had before I got the E74 error, which has to do with the GPU.

Agreed - it's likely the game you are trying to play has a patch that needs downloading.

Spoiler:

Is it hot where you live? I'm just asking because I've long thought, anecdotally, that 360 crashes/RROD increase during hot summer months.

I know my 360 has been working fine for many months now but I did have 2 lock ups while playing Lost Planet online. Turning the 360 off then on fixed things but still, lock ups like that tend to make one nervous. I wonder if I should be expecting the 3 Rings soon? Both days were very hot and typical of many older apartments, it's about 10 degrees HOTTER inside than outside even with fans blowing all over and literally on the 360 when on. I ran some errands and came home wanting to play but it's so hot I decided to give the 360 a break until it cools off.

MS/360 "engineering"

I started with the free gold month, and let it revert to a silver, and have on a couple of occasions used a 48 hour free code, but always let it revert to silver and I have never, ever seen the message you are describing.

I too started with a free month and let it revert to silver. I'm still silver today. I've never been prompted to upgrade to gold and have never seen that message.

Yep, that is almost assuredly it. Just accept the update once per game that asks, and you won't get the message again.

thanks guys... that probably is the reason why i'm getting the update yes/no msg... anyhow, i'll choose YES and see if that's indeed an update. However, i do believe i updated the firmware, since it was required to go to the Market Place.

I can see that make sense in your point of view. But like someone pointed out earlier, there shouldn't be any traffic for demo and contents. If you think MS is doing Gold a favor with the restriction then good for you. Maybe this is all true before the Wii and PS3, but come on now, think about this... If i can't download the demo yet from Live, hell, if i really want it, i'll go do it on the PS3. Actually, for most people, hell, if it doesn't allow you at first, you curse and then play something else and then forget about it altogether.

Considering how slow a download takes on the PSN, I'll gladly consider 'limiting traffic for bandwidth' a perk of Gold on Live. Since the 360 launched, not once have I had an issue with slow downloads. The PS3 on the other hand? Hmmm... every damn time I download something it takes fucking forever.

There are per-game updates too.

So in other words you made an assumption as to what the message really was, then decided to complain about said assumption on the net. Please refrain from that on this site.

I saw a message on my Xbox about a "Sealife Safari". I assume that means Microsoft wants me to throw it into the ocean?

No L&O, the only assumption is that the msg could be an update msg... i have to confirm that. Like i said, i did an update for the Market Place not long ago, and yet, i remember seeing the update yes/no msg again after that when playing BioShock.

That's because specific games need updated. Do you expect MS to package the patches for every single game in each update?
