The tree's and billboard people look pretty bad too, luckily I don't notice that stuff while I'm racing.

I got the CE edition from Amazon, but I haven't opened it yet.

Anyone see this?

Yamauchi: "The Beginning Of A New Era For Gran Turismo"
http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/8168.html
As for future patches and updates - some of which the game really needs - Yamauchi did confirm that "online updates are planned" and it's all for the "process of evolution." Perhaps the most encouraging part of his whole presentation was that he said his team would be "upgrading every week, every month" to improve GT5, so what you see out of the box isn't exactly what you get for good. We particularly like their slogan:

"Today is not the finale. Today is only the beginning of a new era for Gran Turismo."

I'm really glad I dropped a 500GB drive in my 60GB PS3 a few weeks ago or I would have never had enough space to do the install.

By the way, thanks for posting the link for the driving wheel at Amazon for 100.00. I saw it the other day at 130.00 so this was a nice price drop.

Yeah, no "true" car damage is really, really lame. No "next-gen" sim-oriented racing game should be able to get away with not including mechanical damaging. Then again, the AI seems kind of retarded and I tend to play bumper cars even when I don't want to, so maybe it's a good thing that there isn't real damage.

Oh great, so each time I pop in the game, I'll be greeted with Sony's arduous, pain in the ass game-update system where I have to wait for almost an hour for the patch to download and then wait another 15 minutes for it to install. I swear, why are 360 updates practically instantaneous, while PS3 updates are such long, involved processes? I supposed MS understands coding better than Sony.

Maybe he's mostly referring to (optional) DLC. Rock Band doesn't get patched every time there are new songs posted.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 / GT5 Prologue - Official Thread

I'm wondering if the install time necessary is inhibited by drives with less available space (ie; seeking room to put files). I upgraded to a 500gb a while back, and with over 200 available, after a little over 10 minute 100 and change meg patch, my install only took 32 minutes. I thought it was going to take longer, as the bar moved according to the time remaining estimate for the 1st 10 minutes, but hung on 20 left until a minute and a half before the finish.

I've been looking for a wheel stand for my recently ordered Driving Force GT wheel. I was looking at the Xlerator stand and the Wheelstand Pro, and decided on the WSP. It's backordered though, I guess due to GT5!! So I guess I'll be stuck with the gamepad for a while.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 / GT5 Prologue - Official Thread

I'm hoping my little "snack table" that I have will work good enough. I don't think I could justify to myself spending more on a stand than I did for the wheel itself, . Something about that just seems wrong to me.

That said, I'd definitely like to hear your impressions about the Wheel Stand Pro once you get it. Any idea how long it will take? I'm guessing you ordered it directly from them? I didn't see it available on Amazon.

Amazon doesn't have it, though they have the other one. I think the WSP said they'd have more in by December 14th... so it'll be awhile.

This was about on par with my install as well(500GB drive with 350GB free). Mine was about 35 minutes and it hung on "45 seconds left" for a good 5 minutes.

It is really lame that you can only buy the non-premium cars in the Used section. Not only does sorting suck, you only have a very limited number to choose from that cycle out every so often. I'm trying to find a truck to buy for the truck series, and I don't think there is a single truck to be found in the Dealership (Premium) section. So now I just have to luck out in seeing one at all in the Used section, forget about trying to get a specific one.

That is how mine went down as well.
I had been playing without installing up till now,and the game was still constantly installing crap all the time. So I finally bit the bullet in hopes that with the game installed the load times won't be so ridiculous.

I haven't driven it yet, but I love the Toyota FT-86 Concept '09 that you get for winning the Beginner FR Challenge series. It looks totally badass.

I've noticed the "installing" message too, but it's only there for a second or two, and I don't see the data size getting bigger. I think what might be happening is the message is programmed to come up even if you opted for the big installation, while the game checks to see if the data is there.

And now we're up to patch #2. I see Slop101 doing a facepalm soon.

You get a '10 one with about 60 extra HP for getting golds in the the B-Spec version of that same series.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 / GT5 Prologue - Official Thread

So I got my DF GT wheel today, and I'm not really liking it so far. Is there something wrong or is there really no "rumble" from the wheel when you do things like rev the engine, or drive on the shoulder of a course? There is force feedback, where the wheel will give resistance and move back and forth, but besides that it just lacks any real life or feeling. I'm hoping something is wrong, because if not, it just feels completely unrealistic in that aspect.

Cool. What color is it? I ask because I doubt I will ever get it since I don't intend to do the B-Spec mode.

I can't remember, one is orange and the other white. So whichever one you don't have. You can buy it too, but its like 500,000 credits.

Also you can very easily win that one with a decently powered FR car without training up or having to do anything really. If you have the preorder SLS AMG then that will obliterate the competition. It should only take you like 15-20 minutes.

Does the game have a standing start hotlap mode so I can run a reasonably priced car on the Top Gear track just like on the show? Or pretend to be The Stig and try my hand at some ridiculous exotic?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 / GT5 Prologue - Official Thread

Apparently the more you level up, the better the damage gets:

As investigated by GTPlanet.net forum, Gran Turismo 5 has a progressive damage system. This means that as you level up and become more experienced each level of damage becomes unlocked. A report indicates that at level 20 in the game, near full damage becomes unlocked with moderate mechanical issues and at level 40 full damage becomes unlocked with significant mechanical issues.

The idea of "unlocking" damage is a strange one.
