I was kind of peeved about the PS2 thing, but I didn't want to hunt around for a 60gig. I opened a sony card for the discount and I'll pay it off in a few months (might as well use the interest free).

Geez! Where were you when I was hunting for my 60GB PS3? If I hadn't already found one, I would have taken you up on that offer.

I traded in THE SHOW 07 and got around $25 or so, but that was a few weeks BEFORE 08 was released.
I can't second this recommendation enough. I've got a ridiculous amount of stuff for 50% - 75% off retail by flipping games from GameStop to Blockbuster. This weekend, I finally completed the trifecta and got myself a PS3. After $200 and 3 hours of hopping from gamestops to blockbusters, I had enough credit for the 40 GB, Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and a DS3. Unfortunately, I'm moving in a week and a half and have already packed up my entertainment center, so it'll be a while before I get to play with my new toy.

The first few games I would buy for it are the Ratchet & Clank game, Uncharted, and the new MGS that's coming out.

Is the following from About.com still accurate?

When will the DualShock 3 come packed with any of the systems? Will the MGS pack be the first one?

I'm thinking of buying a 60GB to make sure the PS2 playback works fine (if the above is correct), then picking up a DS3 online. Eh, who knows.
If you want to play your old PS2 games get a 60 or 80gb. The new 80gb will have the DualShock 3. I love my 80gb because I have my old PS2 games. I have even started up an old Playstation game and it looked good. Enjoy your new TV, I have the 37".

Got a PS3 about two weeks ago and I'm not happy with the video quality. I have a 30" Sony CRT and the blu-rays look a bit muddled. It's hard to describe but let's just say the colors somewhat blend with the background. Using HDMI.

For anyone that has a crt what are you settings for the tv?

Here's mine
Picture -33
Brightness - 45
Color: 26
Color Type: Neutral
Sharpness - 10

This is close to the setting as my HD DVD player but that one blows Blu Ray out of the water. So I must be missing something.

Apparently if you have a UK account, you can download the demo for HAZE among a few other things. I have yet to create a non-US account, but I may for this.

I've done a bit of that (not to that degree), but how do you get around the limit on trade-ins? My local place says I can only trade in 1 copy of each game. I guess multiple accounts, but how would that work...because wouldn't you need to show ID?

I have enough stores in the area to make flipping worthwhile, I just am not sure how to deal with the 'limit' issue.

Please just go to "CAG" and join the discussion on this there... to me, that borders on "screwing the store over" even if it is just Blockbuster...

I just got a 40GB PS3 in the mail today for my birthday (Thanks mom!), and I have a couple questions that may have already been answered before. If so, sorry.

1. Is there a way to route audio both from optical and HDMI? When I'm watching movies, I'd like to have my receiver on, but sometimes when I'm gaming, I only want to go through the TV.

2. When downloading stuff off the Store, is there any shortcut to auto-install things? It seems like such a hassle for that extra step of installing every single thing you download.

I'm a member there, though I haven't taken a lot of time yet to poke around. I think I saw the thread (it was massive) that talked about pricing differences, though I missed out on the "How To". I've been flipping for years, I just want to make sure I can maximize my effort because I am inherently lazy and would rather get the most out of my actual effort.

Sorry, it's just one at a time.

About those trigger extenders, here's a video showing what they are:

These may have only been available in Europe AFAIK.

The trade limit is per store. According to the standard trade agreement, you can trade 2 of any given title in a day to each store you trade at, though I don't like to push my luck and just do one per store. In my area, I can hit 15 Blockbusters in 3-4 hours and drive past 5 or 6 GameStops on the route. Last week, there was a B2G1F sale at GameStop. So 3 copies of Sega Superstar Tennis were about $32 total after the Edge card discount. Blockbuster's trade-in value was like $31 or $32. Assassin's Creed & Fatal Inertia were other good ones, though they didn't triple your money.

The best deals are usually right when Circuit City marks a relatively recent title down to $8.96 clearance. Several times, I've been able to grab games for $9 each and flip each of them for $35-$40 in credit. Participating in the cag thread in the best way to track good opportunities. I'll usually do one flipping run every 3-4 months to rebuild a good amount of credit.

I'm sorry, but that's just retarded. I don't have a 360 /w HDMI, but from what I've read, there's no problem sending out the audio both HDMI and optical on there.

Thanks for the info!

I'll check out CAG later, I've been meaning to check up on that stuff. I have a decent amount of stores around here that I should be able to make something worthwhile. I want to buy some more games, but I can't justify the pricing....though if I buy them on credit, it is on like donkey kong.

Tell me about it. Although I always would use the good speakers if they're connected, I'd still like to be able to carry it over to a computer monitor (that doesn't have HDMI for sound) and use the analog or optical out without changing the settings each time.

Well, TV settings vary wildly from set to set, even among sets of the same model. So, those aren't going to help anybody.

What setting are you using for the BD/DVD video output? YCbCr, RGB, or Automatic? If it's set to automatic, try changing it to one of the other choices. Also, are you sure the appropriate resolutions are checked off? If it's a CRT, 1080p likely won't be supported, so make sure 1080i is checked. Also try changing from RGB Full to limited or vice-versa.

Are you seeing the issues on games, or just BDs? Which titles do you have?

I've got a technical problem that someone may be able to help me with. I just got my ps3 earlier this week and just today, I've encountered several graphical glitches. I've got it hooked up via HDMI to a Vizio 42" LCD.

1. I'll sometimes get a quick white horizontal line at some random time (XMB, game, blu-ray, doesn't matter)
2. Sometimes I'll get the whole screen going to white for a frame or two.
3. Sometimes the whole screen will go to static for a couple of frames.

I reset the handshake by holding down the power button for several seconds and I didn't notice the static problem again, but did notice the other two while testing out a bluray.

Is this a cable problem (from monoprice), or a hardware problem? If anyone has any insight, that'd be awesome.

Yeah, it is. It's this TV.

Like I said, it was working fine when I got it on Tuesday and just started wonking out today. The only thing I did differently was I quickly went into a game and then backed out real quick. The TV goes to different resolutions when switching from the XMB to games or blurays and the TV goes to a blue "No Signal" screen for a fraction of a second. I don't know if the PS3 is so finicky where switching back and forth several times quickly would cause something to go out.

I've got an Oppo DVD player on my other HDMI connection (DVI->HDMI) with no problems. I'll be testing out another HDMI cable later tonight, and hopefully that'll fix things. I'll also try switching the HDMI ports, and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll try swapping out the PS3 as a last resort, unless there are other options others have.

It might just be an issue with your tv and the PS3, I had issues with mine where the screen would flash when it would go into or out of a game/movie. To fix it I had to toggle inputs. This issue was fixed in a firmware update a while back though. One thing I can suggest is to check avsforum and see if they have a fix there.

I love Team Fortress 2......but I can't quite get my bluetooth headset to work. I got it to sync in the PS3 Menu, and I got it to work in the game when you set the volume.....but I think it drops after that. The headset (Motorola H350 ) I guess is known for not working great with it. Any suggestions?

I'm going to try my Jabra headset the next time.

I have a Jabra and it works fine for me.
I also use a Plantronics headset with no issues.

I have a Motorola somewhere around there but I've never tested it with the PS3, I think I'm covered with the other two.

I forget the exact number and I can't check game sites at work, but the info is out there if you look around. I will be getting the PSP version since this game seems suited to portable play, but if I can finish all or most of the levels, I may eventually get the PS3 version too.
Can I profess my undying love for this game? It's so simple, yet so brilliant. Even though I've played two other original and wonderful perspective-shifting games in the past few months (Portal and Crush), this feels different. It's such a great puzzler -- I love how it makes you think by it's rules instead of applying real-world logic to the puzzles. The music is fabulous -- chamber music suits the game so well

For those trying to pick which version, I'd say get the PS3 one. Even though it's clumsily implemented, the ability to constantly DL new user-created levels gives the game nearly infinite longevity. It's also one of the only games where (at least at times) the sixaxis motion controls are mre intuitive than the analog sticks. This game is SO worth $10. It really puts a lot of recent XBLA titles to shame. Too bad they didn't bundle both versions for like $15. That would be a deal I'd jump at.

I am guessing it's the TV. Some TVs have issues with handshaking. You may not see it with other devices like the Oppo player since they use one resolution and stick to it. The PS3, on the other hand, will start at 1080i/p in the XMB, then switch to 720p for many games, then back to 1080i/p when exiting. It has to handshake each time there's a switch, and maybe your TV doesn't handle it properly every time.

I would suggest unchecking 1080i and 720p, but some (many?) games don't support scaling to 1080p, so those would scale down to 480p.
