So, my Elite just RR'd on me. I popped in my brand new copy of Vegas 2, and the damn thing just locked up. I reset it, and got those lovely flashing lights blinking at me.
I figured the Elite would be less prone to the RROD, but I guess not. I got mine last year when they launched the Elite, and I figured I was in the clear. Oh well, at least I have the Best Buy replacement plan. Do I have to pay for another plan when I swap this one out? Should I just go with the MS warranty on my new one?
this sucks....Best Buy closes at 7pm...I have to wait til tomorrow.

I guess that's the case. Hopefully the new one I get will have the updated CPU and whatnot.

So I traded it out this morning...this Elite was made on 1-26-08, so hopefully I won't have any more problems.
It kind of pissed me off that Best Buy didn't just give me a whole new system. When I took it back, I just took the unit (sans HD) and the power cables. I was half-expecting the drones at BB to just give me a whole new boxed 360 w/ a new controller, HD, and all that. No such luck...they just gave me the 360 and power cables...I half-heartedly tried to get the wireless controller in the box, trying the whole "they'll just send it back to MS...why not give it to me" thing...but nope. I guess I should stop being greedy.

Really?
My experience is that you go to customer service and they ask you to go get a new box, but instead of going to the cash registers you go back to CS and they do all the work.
That was my experience and that's why I've read in the forums.
But I also returned everything, hard drive, controllers, cables, etc.

The lady told me to pick up new one. I did that and brought it back to the customer service desk. She then opened up the new box, took the 360 out of the plastic and disconnected the HD (after I told her how to), and just gave me the new unit/power cables to swap out. All the other stuff in the box stayed, sadly...brand new controller, headset, etc....seems like a waste...

I think I heard way back in this thread that they 'fixed' the DRM issues with playing games offline. Does that mean you can just do it, or that theres a simple process in place to 'own' your games now?

I may be wrong about this, and I'm not saying this was what was happening with you, but when I worked at Best Buy(LP yellow shirt at front) I could swear one of the CS workers told me that they open exchanges so you can't try to come back later or go to another store and get cash for an new unopened item after the exchange or something like that.
I remember people bringing back DVD's and CD's and after the Customer would go and get the new item and bring it back to the CS desk, the CS person would come to me and have me open it and take off the plastic with my box cutter. They would go back and finish the transaction by giving them a new but opened item. They would use the -partial BS- excuse that they were letting customer check the item for defects before they left.

Xbox 360's Wiimote Accessory Is Already In Development, Coming This Generation

Microsoft's been working on a Wiimote-esque controller due to come out late this year—development started on it all the way back in Summer '07—but the whole process has been "a colossal clusterfuck." Here's what MTV news knows courtesy of their exclusive source, who sketched out what it looks like above.
The 360 Wiimote shaped very much like the Nintendo Wii's Wiimote and has a speaker, microphone, four LED lights, A/B/X/Y face buttons, an analog stick and an underside trigger. The Wiimote, on the other hand, doesn't have a Microphone and has a D-pad instead of an analog stick. It's being worked on by Rare, who are trying to come up with a "unified interface and look for the controller." The current problem Microsoft's having is between marketers and designers. The former wants it just about exactly like the Wiimote so they can match them on spec sheets and lure game developers into porting over Wii games onto the 360. The designers want it to be even more feature-rich than just the Wii, and describe it as Halo, Gears and Forza "in waggle form."
Microsoft is also working on their equivalent of the Nintendo Mii avatars to go along with this accessory, and will be ported into every game that uses the controller. The problem with Microsoft porting characters around is that each one "standard look" and be somewhat generic. On the other hand, Rare's having much difficulty meeting their deadlines, which means that target date of end of 2008 could be hard to hit.
Hit up MTV Multiplayer for a bigger view of the sketch. [MTV - Thanks Ravi!]

I hope that's a joke. If I wanted a Wii, I would buy a Wii. I guess the more stuff the merrier, as long as it doesn't affect normal games and their gameplay.
I must be the only person that plays video games that has absolutely no interest in the Wii and how it plays. Wii Sports is fun for 20 minutes but it gets super old after that. Flicking, thrusting, and waving controllers around in the air with semi-accurate response? Keep it.

I would buy into something like that if i could then just pick up a couple discs of minigames. Like 2 collections and i would be set.
More than anything else though, and i sound like a broken record here, i want some decent vision cam games. Stuff like the Eyetoy on the PS2.

I think the Wiimote type controller can have its place, but trying to map it to a "normal" game doesn't work out very well in my opinion.

How many non-bundled controllers really make that big of an impact on games, though? I'm assuming that (good) games designed for this controller would work either not at all or very poorly with the regular controller. So who's going to develop these games, which would only likely sell to those who also bought the new controllers (and four of them at that, for party games)? And do they really want just ports of wii titles? C'mon now.
Granted, I'm an accessory whore, but after a while all these accessories that work with one or two games at most become a waste of money, especially considering incompatibility with later generations. I'm looking at you, guncon 1 and 2, eyetoy, xbox arcade sticks, various steering wheels for old consoles, ps2 guitar hero controllers, xbox Karaoke Revolution microphones, samba de amigo controllers, old dance dance revolution pads, and eventually rock band controllers (though the wife refused to let me buy that). Microsoft can't even adequately put Live Vision features into their games.

If something like this came out i can imagine it would be controller and a disc of games. Then maybe some Wii games ported to Live Arcade or otherwise put minigame collections on the Arcade.

If it's out by the time Resident Evil 5 for 360 comes out then I'll buy it. For me the Wii control scheme for Resident Evil 4 was just about the only game I've really enjoyed for that system. Other than that I'd rather play 360 games with conventional controllers.
