Re: Mass Effect
I just started this game this weekend and chose the "Sentinel" class. Not sure why I did -- but I guess because the manual said it was a "balanced" character. Anyways, it seems like my guy can only use light armor and a pistol?? He's "untrained" in everything else??? WTF? Is there any way for my dude to use a sniper or shotgun? Also, can he ever use good armor? I was gunned down 5 times trying to get past Fist in the early part of the game.

Re: Mass Effect
You'll get better "light armor" and pistols. Make sure you're searching/hacking all the containers.
Your class isn't a soldier, so you'll have to rely more on your special abilities that you access by holding the RB button.
IIRC, the Sentinel is a combination of a Biotic & Tech specialist. You're definitely getting the short end of each class this way.
Yeah, from the manual:
You may want to start over.

Yeah, from the manual:
Sentinel - Biotic/Tech
The Sentinel is the most flexible class, able to combine tech and biotics to manipulate the environment, disable and attack enemies, or defend the party. Gameplay focus is on protecting the party using kinetic barriers and healing it with advanced medical training.

I know I'm only like 3-4 hours in... but that was a whole weekend worth of gaming for me (and in most cases a whole week) so I have to stick it out.

Just finished this game tonight and it was pretty good. Good enough that I'll get ME2 for sure.
Im not going to spoilerize this since the game is over 2 years old, but didn't Shepherd die in the game at the end? Because in my ending, he escapes from the wreckage and can appoint Urdina or Anderson head of the new council. I did get an update last night so I'm assuming that's to prep gamers for ME2.

What you saw was always the ending. Shepperd emerges from the wreckage of the Citadel, picks the new human representative on the council and then heads off to the frontier to stop the Reapers.

Maybe the confusion is coming from the talk about Shepard being dead in ME2.

Re: Mass Effect
Well after having the game since it came out I finally beat it tonight. I must of skipped alot of side quest because it only took me around 13-14 hours to beat. I was suprised when I got and realized it was the ending. It seemed like the story really only started to get going. It might because it took me so long to beat it. But I thought the main story was going to be 30 hours or so.
that being said I cant wait till the sequel. This was a good game though it had alot of problems, it had a lot of good characters though wrex died in my game, he was my favorite.
The final boss though was annoying, mostly because of the lousy AI. my squad kept stepping out in the line of fire and getting killed. Then you had to wait till your powers recharged which is too slow. But they kept doing it. They need to fix the AI in Mass Effect 2, Controls werent perfect, Combat was fun but not perfect guns overheat way way too much and easily and hopefully it will be more cinematic, and fix the controls for the vehicle and make exploring alien planets more exciting. So many looked the same.
overall really good game, 8/10

ANyways..I get my but kicked all the time..the biotics are just kicking my butt, any hints or tips?

Re: Mass Effect
On those spacecraft missions, I liked to use the hallway between the double doors (if I remember right) as a choke-point. I'd tell my squad to hold position (down on D-pad, I believe) and go in to draw them out. Then we'd just clean up.
In fact, I used this tactic pretty much everywhere in the game.

Yep that's a great stratgey.
Also, make sure you give your characters the weapons they're trained on and make sure you're constantly upgrading those specific weapons. This way they can do a lot of damage for you. Use your grenades and use your Biotic characters against the Biotic enemies.

ANd I lost the booklet, so I forgot what the commands on the directional pad are.

Hold LB to bring up the weapon wheel. It's divided into 3 sections, one for each of you.

Re: Mass Effect
I kept the same team for most of the game and I had Shepard with the assault rifle, Ashley with a shotgun, and either Garrus or Wrex with a Sniper Rifle. That seemed to work the best.

Re: Mass Effect
Ashley is a Solider so she has trained(can use with some skill) on all weapons. When you bring up the weapons menu you'll know what weapons the character has trained on when you select a weapon.

Re: Mass Effect
I can't get Mass Effect to start up. I got the EA Value Games PC release of ME1

and it installed just fine (though I didn't need to use disc 2 at all). I configured my settings (after I got the lates patch) but the game wont start. It leaves that little startup screen (the one with links to start the game, or configure the game, or go online, etc.) after I click "Start" and then nothing happens.
My system is the following:
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
4.00 GB RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz
ATI Radeon HD 5670
EDIT: Nevermind. Now it's somehow working...

Is this mission really that irritating?

So I Ran Over a Monkey from Phil Rice on Vimeo.

Before leaving, I opened my map and noticed that suddenly a bunch of monkey sites could be found. Boy did I dodge one huge bullet!
