Sorry for the confusion - i was unclear. I had 2 questions (and one was off-topic):

Where can i get codecs to play a DVD in WMP11 in Vista? (the off-topic question)

My second question was about the update. I thought the OP i referenced was saying my PC would have to get an update to stream Divx to my 360. Then he clarified that the 360 was the one requiring the update.

It all makes sense to me now. Thanks for clarifying and my apologies for the confusion of me bringing Vista into the equation.

What's the best way to get my gamertag on another 360, temporarily? Going to stay with my brother-in-law this weekend, taking Rockband with me, and would like to be able to play all of my DLC.

The only other time I was away from my own 360 playing, I went through the annoyingly long process of downloading my gamertag to the other person's 360, then it didn't work right when I got back home, and had to go through the whole process again.

Why don't you just take your hard drive to your home. This seem so much easier to do them screwing around with your gamertag.

Even if you switch HDD's, you still have to "recover" your gamertag. The best way to transport your gamertag is to put it on a memory card. Then you'd have to re-download the DLC. Hopefully he's on a decent connection.

I've got an external HD on my PC and the 360 won't see it for Media Sharing. WMP11 sees and plays everything just fine, but it won't send it over to the 360. Anyone got any ideas? It sees everything from my internal HDDs, but nothing on the external (networked) drive.

Don't forget with the new update there are a bunch of new free themes and gamerpics for the Xbox originals like Halo and Psychonauts.

Some of the Dream Theater stuff is up now as well, including a free theme and gamerpic pack.

*edit - did anyone ever receive their Live is 5 free 500 points? I'm not even sure if I qualified. Just curious.

Are memory cards like this all you can use? Is 64mb the smallest? And is that big enough for what I want to do?

The update actually fixed one of my very minor pet peeves about the blades.

Before the update, whenever any blade that would come in from the right (like when you hold down the guide button to bring up the shut down menu) would slide back out, it would break up and pixelate. It just looked bad.

Well now that problem is fixed. All the blades move a little faster too.

64mb is the smallest. It's what I use to move my tag around. Can store a couple saves on it as well, but not much DLC. If he's got a connection, you can just redownload pretty quickly.

I don't know if it is a result of the update, but my system freezes up for a few moments as I try to navigate the blades. It also did the same when trying to play CoD4. Add that to the fact that I can not download ANYTHING from the marketplace, and I'm not happy at all.

From Major Nelson's twitter:

# They're still working on LIVE. I am confident e's team will get it all working nice and speedy very soon. about 10 hours ago
# Yes, we know that LIVE is acting up. The engineers are working on it. They'll get is back on track ASAP about 12 hours ago

I checked mine this morning before work and it seemed the lag was gone, but didn't test it too much.

Thanks...so apparently my b-in-law bought Rockband this weekend, so I just told him to buy the song packs, which he did. Now, does Rockband upload your band's saves online, like (I think) Gears of War does? So for example, I have a band (me on guitar, me on mic ) that I'm doing World Tour with. If I recover my gamertag on HIS 360, will we be able to pick up my World Tour where I left off? Or would I need a memory unit to bring my saves with?

Re-recovering a gamertag on your console may actually delete some of your saves.

Buy an MU.

Didn't get a chance to crack open Mass Effect either, maybe by Christmas??

I just got off the phone earlier today w/ MS to get a coffin for my month old Woot Zune... hmmm karma kickin' in?
Called on 11-29, coffin received/shipped back out 12-5.

(on aside, my Zune started working fine the next day and I was able to use the towel trick to play some GHIII over the weekend)

Alright. Is there anyone here on a mac that has gotten connect360 to work with your video files?

I've had it since it came out and have no problems with music or pics, but where do I go in the dash to find my movies?

If I go to "videos" it just takes me to my vids on the console. If I go to "media center" it wants me to run PC setup. Any help?

After selecting Video, press X to "Change Video Source".
