This based on the back cover, which features Night at the Museum and some animated films. Are there many questions on film history, or anything more nerdy along those lines?

Theres a good bit of historic stuff that manages to jog the memory a bit but it is mostly "known" movies. There are a lot of questions about oscar nominations and wins. Character names, actors (There was one for When Harry Met Sally asking which president's son was Meg Ryan's ex in the movie, or something along those lines).

Some older clips (and their question sets) I've seen so far, and this might be a spoiler for some, include Out of Africa, From Here to Eternity, Trading Places, Naked Gun, Ghostbusters, Lawrence of Arabia, Close Encounters, Raising Arizona, etc; and questions (from clips) range from the basic (name the movie) to what are "the instructions" in Raising Arizona (the Spock book, which isn't in the clip) to historic facts (When a certain event happend in real life) and other details.

During Credit Roll you'll get stuff as abstract as costume designer, to director, then actors and character names. Other bits cover more popular foreign films as well such as Pan's Labyrinth and Run Lola Run. It doesn't dig too horribly deep but proves challenging.

Overall, it keeps things pretty well balanced, you won't get a lot of Godard questions, but the game seems aware that people other than Ben Stiller and Steven Spielberg (though he is in it a lot) exist in the world.

On a side note, I'm a movie nut and have watched a ton, my buddy is into movies though not quite as much but has killer knowledge of the 80s flicks he grew up on. He kicks my ass when they popup. IMO, this is one of the better "casual"/party games on any console right now, I just hope for expansion disks in the future. (According to VGChartz the game has sold about 110,000 copies worldwide in its first 3 weeks, about 70k in the US (increased 2k each week), about 40k in Europe. That really doesn't seem bad for a $60 trivia game.)

NFL 2K5 runs fairly well on the 360. The load screens stutter a little, and there are some goofy effects here and there during a game, but overall this is still a fun title.

Custom stadium music does not work, however.

Hunter: The Reckoning is now on the BC list as well, and if you can find it cheap I recommend it. It's a great mindless hack and slash with a decent story too.

As Rich mentioned there seems to be some classics thrown in as I've seen clips from 12 angry men, Some like it hot, and Rebel without a cause. I've had it since the week of launch, but haven't played more than 5-6 rounds, and some 'party play' mode.

My biggest complaint is I really wish there was online play options. I consider myself a film buff, but of course my kids 13 & 17 can't compete on the same level because they haven't seen 1/4 of what I have, even though they like playing. I need to have a get together with 3 other 'buffs' and see how I actually rate with some competition. I have 3 friends who would qualify but getting them available and together at one time is proving difficult.

I was really disappointed when the box did not mention anything about download content, although there is a menu option within the game to check for available downloads, so I'm hoping for future 'question packs'. I would love to see some genre themed packs (Horror!), but just general question packs would be fine also.

Thanks for the info guys. I might very well pick it up.

Lame as shit that MVP Baseball 2003 and 2004 are BC but not 2005.

It is on the list....

Do you mean that there is no update for it to work when you put the game in?

Edit :

Ahhh... it is on the listed on the link posted... but not on the "official list" that is sited as it's source.

http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2...at-update.aspx

Looks like it was on the list, but silently removed, as someone commented on it being included on the same page.

I looked at the PDF from Microsoft's site, which lists all the BC games now, which was linked from Major Nelson.

Anyone using the Windows Media Center Extender thingy to access music/pics/videos from your PC on your 360? I have WinXP SP 2 and WMP11. I'm currently using TVersity, and I'm wondering if I will gain enough functionality or ease of use using MCE to bother going through the hassle of changing.

Decadance 11-28-07 10:18 PM

you will lost functionality. MCE doesnt handle xvid or divx.

Jtnguyen12 11-29-07 12:02 AM

No Otogi 1, 2, Samurai Shadown 5, Iron Phoenix, Kingdom Under Fire: Hereoes, Voodoo Vince, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sub., Men of Valor, Crimson Sea, Deus Ex: Invisible War, The Sims, The Sims: Bustin' Out....etc.

Oh well, look like we must wait till April for new BC Pack :(

Funny, of all those you mentioned, Oddworld Stranger is the only game I'd even play. I really was hoping for Xmen Legends 1 & 2 to get backwards compatibility.

Mine should be delivered back to me today. I don't have the entire timeline in front of me, but I believe I called it in, the first week of November. Got the box a week later (according to UPS tracking I'm looking at), shipped it to them which took 5 total days (including a weekend), then its taken 6 days from time it shipped from them (which was 2 days after it arrived at their location), if its delivered today. Xbox customer service via phone was actually very helpful, and was able to provide me UPS tracking numbers on the coffin, as well as the outgoing shipment of my Xbox back to me.

I believe my 360 was a similar production date as yours and up until it RROD, I had never had 1 issue with it.

I'm curious to see if I get mine back (doubtful with the turnaround), a refurb or a new unit. I'd either like to get mine back or a new one with an HDMI output, but we'll see what happens.

well got it back, and it was my same 360 (same Serial Number, etc) Reconnected, re-entered the network settings, etc (would have thought those were stored on the Hard Drive, but must not be?), and started it up long enough to see that when it went out, it corrupted my Halo3 save file (that's the game I was trying to load when it RROD, and I was able to load a save game for MUA with no issues), so I deleted that and restarted and all seemed good. Haven't had a chance to really put it to the test though. Here's hoping the fix is good.

XROD 11-29-07 07:56 PM

Got my same unit back also.......the drive was alot louder, but man, my 360 can be on all day and still cool to the touch........

ElementZ 11-29-07 10:12 PM

Hmmm Fable, might have to download that and finally play it...Not sure when I am going to have time in between Halo, NHL, Puzzle Quest, and the games I am getting for xmas.

Not once have I ever cared about the Artist of the Month thing Live offers until now...

Dream Theater is the December Artist of the Month!

LIVE members on Xbox 360 will have access to exclusive performance, interview, and behind the scenes footage from Dream Theater's recent tour

Dream Theater will be playing over Xbox LIVE on 12/5 in the Game with Fame program. Get onto Xbox LIVE and prepare to play your favorite band. Details at Xbox.com

Awesome. Now, if only a track or two would show up in GHIII or RB. :)

Canis Firebrand 11-30-07 07:37 AM

Hmm.. some Dream Theater in rockband. That would be nice.

Decker 11-30-07 09:13 AM

How much will the Xbox Originals be and how big will the DL files be? (Not that I would buy any of them, I'm just curuious)

Michael Corvin 11-30-07 09:24 AM

Every game will be 1,200 points ($15).

File size will vary by game. I think the OG Halo is 2GB.

SteelgearX 11-30-07 10:20 AM

I was considering Psychonauts, but if the whole thing is handled like the live arcade then I might have to think twice about it. I'd hate not to be able to play a game because I somehow got disconnected from Live or decided not to keep Live.

Yes, if and when I need a new 360.

Cool. I don't like DL games like this beause I want a physical disc. Either way hope this forces Gamestop and others to price their used XBOX games around $9 max. :D

Liver&Onions 11-30-07 11:39 AM

Anyone who has not played Psychonauts should make it a point to get this game. I still stand solid behind my rating of Collectors Series and I will be spending the points to play it again. http://www.videogametalk.com/review.php?ID=146

Why would you get rid of Live though? It's free (Silver).

Likewise, I can only hope that Beyond Good & Evil is added to the BC list and offered up on the Xbox Originals Channel so that it can have a second chance to shine (at least until Beyond Good & Evil 2 comes out on the Wii).

Nope, it's now called Beyond Good & Evil: Warrior Within. Jade is now blond and bustier and war has hardened her with added scorn and attitude! The eclectic score has been changed to a heavy metal/hip-hop soundtrack. Combat has been revamped with a heavy combo system and the photography, exploration and adventure elements have been removed.

Yet another reason why the "20GB" hard drive is way too small.

You still have hope that BG&E 2 will ever be made? :p That's like me refusing to believe that Duke Nukem Forever is vaporware.

Ancel himself gave some hints to that effect in a recent Nintendo Power. He also hinted at the sequel last year at a Video Games Live appearance in Europe. It doesn’t make it concrete, but there's a lot of rumors about Ubisoft giving him leeway to do it based on them endangering their relationship with him due to some happenings concerning Rayman Raving Rabbids.

taffer 11-30-07 12:51 PM

Rumors have persisted about BG&E 2 for years. I won't believe it until I hear an actual official word saying the game is in development.

After all, there were also a lot of rumors that Kid Icarus would be "re-imagined" on the Wii. Nothing yet...

RichC2 11-30-07 12:57 PM

So much lost potential...

Every programmer on here should apply for a job at Nintendo, just so we can persuade from the inside :)

PixyJunket 11-30-07 01:02 PM

No need, Retro Studios is already working on the next Kid Icarus. :D2:
