I'm starting to wonder if the game is intentionally trying to balance the kpd between teams and as a result the system won't match me up with anyoen good. I don't know. Last several nights I've just been going into unranked games with friends and teamkilling and stunting just to have fun - since we pretty much couldn't find a game without quitters/screamers/babies and douchebags anyways.
I have COD, but haven't gotten into it much (too easy to die/kill for me).

I usually get a bunch of friends together to play once a week... we have to splitscreen it, but otherwise it works pretty well, and they even have their own gamertags despite the fact that they don't own a 360.
This past Friday was the first time where it seemed like every couple of games we had a player killer or quitter on our team. Granted, we had invited a new guy over, so we couldn't play ranked matches, but man, I've never experienced that before. Also, we have games where we were clearly outmatched, so the guys on the other team got bored and quit, leaving their poor teammates behind. I've never had to go into Live and negatively review so many players before.

Bungie unveals new Halo 3 map: Ghost Town
Posted Feb 21st 2008 3:30PM by Dustin Burg

A bit earlier today, Bungie finally took the veil off of one third of this Spring's upcoming Halo 3 DLC (now officially called the "Legendary Map Pack") by showing off and discussing the first map, Ghost Town.
Ghost Town (formally known as "O.K. Corral") is a smaller, asymmetric map set inside an ancient, broken apart, vegetation ruled water purification complex. Inspiration for Ghost Town was pulled from the campaign's Sierra 117 level (with hints of Halo 2's Warlock as well), featuring lots of debris and a cool "jungle feel". Check out Bungie's quick and dirty Q&A with the map's lead designers after the jump and take a gander through the gallery below to get your visual fill of Ghost Town. We've been teased and now all we want is more Legendary Map Pack information. Bring on the goods Bungie, bring 'em on!

Is it just me or does anyone miss the feeling of watching your opponents go flying hundreds of feet in the air after you pummel them in the face with the butt of your gun?
Also, whats up with the wait times? Since the update it has taken me almost triple the time it used to take to find games, and yes my NAT is open.

Bungie looking at new ways to search for H3 content
Posted Feb 26th 2008 3:30PM by Dustin Burg

While chatting with the Eurogamer crew at GDC, Bungie's Brian Jarrard talked about what they're looking at to continue Halo 3's longevity including new features that'll allow players to search through user created content. Jarrard told Eurogamer that "the problem we're dealing with now is there's just too much content," and that "for a new person that just wants to find something fun that somebody else made, we don't feel very good about the way we've done that." Jarrard continues by saying that Bungie is "working on different ways to potentially grade and aggregate and sort content" and that they believe a search database to be important "to really get a foothold and contribute to Halo 3's lifespan."
Does that pretty much confirm Bungie will be opening up the flood gates on user created Halo 3 content by allowing custom creations to be searchable, ratable and easily managed? Not exactly. But we're happy to see that Bungie sees value in user created content and how it can add years and years of life to Halo 3's online component. Here's to an easy to manage searchable index of user created Halo 3 creations. Three cheers!

Well I got my defective disc replaced today, for free. I sent my bad disc in about 4 weeks ago. New disc is now in hands. Thanks Microsoft. Now I can put it on the shelf and watch it collect dust as I continue to play COD4.

Autoupdate is Available
As we announced earlier this week, the autoupdate was released. If you haven’t signed into Halo 3 on Live since the Wednesday release you’ll gently prompted when the game fires up to update the game, after a couple of moments a progress bar should fill and the game will restart, at this point you should see 1.1 on your title screen – that is one way of making sure you’ve received the Update, the other, less gentle explanation being that you won’t be able to play the game over Live without the Update.
Here’s a quick and dirty change list that we posted earlier:
* Melee contests have been rebalanced
* Dying while performing a melee or weapon lunge will no longer accelerate the dead player
* The Elite Commando shoulder armor variant has been unlocked for all players
* Improved the “Prefer Good Connection” option
* Added backend hopper support for DLC custom game variants
* Fixed a problem with the Theater when a player tried to view a saved film for a DLC map he or she doesn’t own
* Fixed a UI error in the Theater when a party leader selects a film that is invalid for a party client
* Fixed a bug that under rare conditions could allow a BXB sequence
* Fixed a Dirty Disc Error that could occur when loading the same DLC map twice in a row
* Added a visible version string to the Halo 3 main menu
Some players have reported issues with being able to load the maps after downloading the Autoupdate. This is an issue related to corrupted cache space on the Xbox 360. If you encounter this issue, where a map freezes at a certain percentage loaded, try restarting Halo 3 while holding down the “A” button and “Up” on the D-pad while the game is booting. Another way to clear the cache on your Xbox 360 is to access your Xbox 360 HDD via the Dashboard’s System Blade. Access the “memory” area and highlight the hard drive. Press Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X and a message should appear: “Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?” Additionally, players have reported success for clearing their cache by playing other cache-intensive games, like Oblivion. If clearing the 360’s cache doesn’t work try cleaning the disc or Xbox 360 disc tray. If that doesn't work, try loading a problem map with no HDD attached. If it still doesn't work then all those months of storing your Halo 3 disc in a bag of sand have finally paid off.

I've only played coop once and even MP came and went pretty fast when COD4 came. Last week I finished COD4 arcade and thought about giving Halo 3 a shot until RS; Vegas 2 comes out. If you can't find a third or forth player I'll give it a go even though I'm a bit rusty.

Anyone having problems trying to connect to a freinds game. I can do matchmaking no problem, but I am trying to connect to my friend's game or they are trying to connect to mine and it keeps coming out with a Time Out error.
It used to work flawlessly before.

I was at Fry's today in Austin and they had a bunch of the special edition games with the helmet for 80 dollars. Not sure if all Fry's have them or not but seems like a pretty good deal if anyone is still looking.

Bungie drops Halo 3 March Playlist update
Posted Mar 5th 2008 7:30PM by Terrence Stasse

The March Update for Halo 3's playlist sees Bungie taking some steps to end the dominance of COD4 and, if they have any luck, return Halo 3 to the top of the charts. The major change implemented by the playlist would be the creation of what are being called "DoubleXP Weekend Playlists" that are just like they sound, and which will start for the first time this Thursday at midnight (or thereabouts) with the playlist Grifball. In addition, the playlist for the those players who have the DLC has also been updated to give a choice between objective and slayer games. The update also includes a multitude of smaller changes that mainly have to do with in-game exploits, and the full list can be found after the break. Will twice the XP in "flavored" playlists be enough to bring back the masses who seem to have migrated elsewhere? Doubtful, only the DLC eventually being free has the potential to do that.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
Full list of update changes after the break.
Changes Live Now:
Fixed map exploit on The Pit
Fixed map exploit on Construct
Fixed map exploit on Epitaph
Reduced Ranked Big Team Battle "Large party" size to six players and increased Big Team threshold to two
Fixed Spartan Laser falling through map
Fixes to matchmaking to allow more even leveling for players
Disabled Mixed Skill restrictions for RBTB and Team Slayer
Upcoming DoubleXP Weekend Playlists:
Grifball, the game created by Burnie Burns of Red vs. Blue will be an unranked, weekend-long social playlist awarding DoubleXP to winning teams. We've slightly adjusted some of the rules for Grifball (unlimited round times make for unlimited griefing potential), but kept the game's core intact. You'll be able to go in with party configurations ranging from one to eight people. This playlist will be available from Thursday, March 6 at midnight until March 10 at midnight (all times Pacific Standard). I apparently forgot to mention that the Grifball hopper is being treated like a Tournament hopper -- a hopper where there will be prizes. Tournament prizes.
Beginning March 20 at midnight will be the return of Team SWAT in the Social, DoubleXP variety. Team SWAT is an old Halo 2 gametype where players have no shields, increased body health and do not have the luxury of radar. This eight-player maximum hopper will be completely Team Slayer focused with the SWAT ruleset. This weekend playlist will be available from March 20 at midnight until March 23 at midnight (all times Pacific Standard).

I've actually gotten back into this game. I went through the campaign when it came out and dabbled in the MP but it didn't click like Halo 2 at the time. Of course I was busy with Bioshock, Mario Galaxy, & Ratchet & Clank at the time, so Halo went on the backburner.
I've played a ton this week. Played a couple rounds of Griffball last night. That was fun. I really like Double Team.
Gave Big Team battle a chance last night also. That was weak. Got into a flag match and 4 people on my team didn't have headsets on. It was a giant clusterfuck and we got slaughtered. Hopefully they won't relegate the upcoming Avalanche map to just BTB, which seems to be the case for Sandtrap(which I haven't seen in Ranked matches since I played around launch).

Larger party gametypes will be the ultimate suck unless you go in with a full party.
If you go by yourself into BTB, you are bound to have any or all of the following.
1) People without headsets
2) People that quit early
3) Random asshats that team kill or just run around not trying to help your team win
4) Random asshats who think they are auditioning for american idol or just never stop talking

There were three of us in a group, that left 5 on the team(four without headsets). It also didn't help that out of our group our levels ranged between 17 (me) to 33 and our opponents were all 35-50.
