Yup, I greatly prefer the Metroidvanias, even to Metroid. (I never got into Super Metroid unlike most everybody else on the planet).

The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past is still a great game albeit lengthy. The other VC game I play a lot is Punch Out, it just never gets old.

Haven't seen the latest update posted. Probably because it's completely underwhelming. Again...

Operation Wolf (NES)
Columns III (Genesis)

Bring on Fantasy Zone and the SMS already!

I remember enjoying Operation Wolf back in the day, but, the only reason to play it today would be if they updated it and allowed actual point and shoot with the remote instead of moving a reticule on screen.

Seeing your comments in the main Wii thread on Wii Fit, I'm sure you'll have extreme difficulty understanding this either way but.. there are people out there that might like Operation Wolf and Columns. I know, it's fucking shocking, somebody likes something you don't. Don't take it personally though, take a minute a breathe a bit and then just enjoy what you enjoy, let others enjoy what they enjoy.

Sure these games have fans and have earned their respective places in the annals of gaming history. But Shirley you can admit that the VC offerings as of late have been sub-par, at best. Especially when one considers what they could be doing. The last two weeks have amounted a grand total of 3 games. 1.5/week isn't a trend I'd personally like to see continue.

Of course there are. But at the same time, there's tons of big-name games that many more gamers are clamoring for that are being completely ignored, so that these obscure games can instead get released.

Yeah, but we already have the original. Did C3 bring enough to the table to warrant it over other Genesis releases? Say Revenge of Shinobi?

Well, I'd say they're being more staggered then ignored. There's not much sense in releasing popular games back to back to back and overwhelming people. More importantly, there's also a finite well they have to pull from. Also, for any non-Nintendo games, they have to work with the publisher to get them out (and I know for sure that Square-Enix isn't interested in releasing their games over any download service at the moment for one.. and there are a lot of games that currently have no publisher).

Also, Operation Wolf and Columns are far from obscure.

They haven't released a AAA title IMO since SMB3. That's quite a drought.

"AAA title" is such an arbitrary term.

There wasn't a single Xbox Live Arcade release that I personally thought was worth purchasing (not based on some magical review numbers or letters) from when I bought the system in July until January but I wasn't in the thread on a weekly basis whining that the titles *I* wanted weren't being released like a petulant child.

XBLA is a completely different beast than the Wii VC. There's a limited selection of titles for the VC that we all know, XBLA is mostly new stuff, with some retro stuff thrown in, none of which is predetermined by system like the VC is. AAA is pretty easy to define, it's big named titles that appeal to the masses. Mario, Zelda, Metroid are the big 3, but there are other AAA titles that are easily thought of off the top of my head: Castelvanias, Goldeneye/Perfect Dark, and I'd even put games like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger in that category (their popularity has increased over time). AAA is just any title that is widely know and sold well on the system.

Hell yeah! That game was awesome! I just saw the screwattack where they commented on it and apparently they had to use a cheat to beat the game. I thought the difficulty was almost perfect. It is quite tough but still beatable unlike some other NES games that were downright nigh impossible. I'm looking at you Ninja Gaiden, Snake Rattle and Roll, and Batman.

So, am I to understand that the wii zapper would not work for Operation Wolf and you are forced to use the classic controller?

That's been the case with every VC release. None have Wii functunality. These really are just emulations of the original games.

WiiWare is what will introduce new or reworked titles.

Like Dodging Cars says, nothing re-worked. You can use the plain remote holding it like a classic NES controller as well.

That sucks. I loved Operation Wolf and was close to buying the arcade game. This would have been awesome on my screen.

I finally purchased a few VC games.

Super Mario World and Bubble Bobble (wife wanted that). A little underwhelmed thus far...but I didn't have a chance to dive into them much.

So how does 1080 Snowboarding feel on the regular gamepad?
