Only if you start a new Live account/gamertag. That's why I switched my gamertag, I'd rather have a free month than to keep my gamertag that I used with the original Xbox.

Makes sense. I'm not going to switch the gamertag that I've racked up 27,000 points on, though...so no biggie. :)

Does anyone know about erasing the hard drive/personal information? I asked on the last page.

Price guarantee is actually pretty widespread.

That seems really weird to me and i can't imagine businesses really doing things like that. I suppose it makes sense with big ticket items to encourage people to buy their TV from you... but on a game it seems silly.

Most places will PM during the period during which you could return an item (as long as you have the receipt) because they would rather deal with a PM than a return (as people would return the item, then purchase the item cheaper at the other store, or at the same store if that's where it was cheaper). Pretty basic/standard these days. Saves the store on returns and allows them to still make some profit (assuming the reduced price is not a loss leader).

And I think the new gamertag has to be created from the new 360, at least that's what they told me when I emailed support. That's a little misleading.

The clearance thing I can see, clearance usually means 'dumping stock' and is quite often excluded from most specials or policies.

Yeah, many retailers, if you buy a product from them and their own price drops within the next 10-30-60 days (varies), upon proof of purchase they will refund you the difference. Amazon does it, BB does it, CC does it, Target and BJ's both do it. I've done both price guarantees and return/rebuys.

And I think most people either don't think about the guarantee, or have lost their receipt, or just don't bother, especially on things like DVDs or games (TVs and more expensive stuff may be difference).

xmiyux 10-07-07 12:46 PM

Interesting.

Thanks for the information.

Michael Corvin 10-07-07 01:03 PM

How are they playing games? If item X is clearanced out they want to get rid of it. They are already losing on it so why would they pricematch themselves a week later for a lower price and lose more? Why not skip the BS and go straight to 75% then? They are trying to recoup whatever they can.

 I just don't get the big deal. I'm sure other places have similar policies for clearanced items.

Let's get this thread back on a Xbox 360 track. Move the Target talk to the Store Forum.

Spiderbite 10-07-07 06:04 PM

Thanks for posting regarding the Mad Catz Arcade Stick at Target. I went to one of my local ones and they have 1 left! Got it for the clearance price of $19.98 with the 3 arcade live games. Read some pretty good reviews on the stick before I bought it so I am eager to try it out. Thanks again!

While I was at Target, they also had Call Of Duty 2: Platinum Hits (w/ bonus dvd) for $19.99. I picked this up but when I got home I saw that there is also a "Game Of The Year" edition for this very game and wondered if it is better or has more stuff than the one I just bought. Did some quick searches but could not find anything concrete. Anyone know for sure?

Also, for those that might be interested, Target had Bionicle Heroes on clearance for $14.98. Didn't look like my kinda thing so I passed but I figured someone here might want it.

There really should be a dedicated thread for deals on the 360/software/accessories.

xmiyux 10-07-07 06:09 PM

The Game of the Year edition has a code that lets you download the premium map packs for free. I think otherwise they cost you 10 bucks.

Honestly it probably isn't a big deal since the maps are only usable online and next month when CoD4 comes out even the die-hards that stuck with CoD2 will switch.

Spiderbite 10-07-07 06:33 PM

Thanks for the info xmiyux. I was mainly buying it for the single player game than the multiplayer since it would be wrong for me to cheat on Halo3 so soon. :)

I am surprised they haven't made those new(er) multiplayer maps free by now...like they did with Gears of War. Wonder why?

Well i can't confirm they are not now free since i bought them long long ago. I personally can't imagine they put them up for free download though since they packed them into the GOTY edition.

Figures since I just bought a 360. I would like to try out Marvel Alliance but have no interest in Forza so I guess I can't complain to much.

PixyJunket 10-08-07 09:10 AM

It also figures since I have to buy one by Saturday. ;)

Actually, CoD2 GOTY came with the map pack code just for a limited time. Those packs are long-since gone. Now they just have the bonus DVD. The maps are still not free. Not sure if the CoD3 Gold edition still includes the map pack code or not...

argh923 10-08-07 09:37 AM

Count me in on the whole "figures" point, since I just upgraded to my Elite on Saturday.

Is any personal information stored on the hard drive for these? (Address, credit card, etc) I sold my Pro on eBay, but want to make sure everything's wiped out before I send it. Any tips/advice?

Canis Firebrand 10-08-07 09:39 AM

I think that info is tied to the passport account you used to set up the profile. I believe if you delete the profile and format the drive, is that an option in the dashboard? You might be all set. I thought I also recalled an option to do a "factory reset" in the dashboard.

Simpsons and Conan demos are up.

Anybody know when we might see the GH3 demo? Next week maybe? And any word on whether online modes will be available?

According to this: http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/14323/...roving-Ground/

the demo will be included with the new Tony Hawk game (out next week), and then it will show up on Live either on 10/23 or 10/30. The linked article was written when the Tony Hawk release date was 10/9 and says that the demo would show up two weeks after that. Now that they moved the TH date back a week, I don't know if that affects the Live demo date.

aktick 10-08-07 07:31 PM

Conan demo was kind of fun, nothing too complex, pretty linear. Lots of blood. I love piledriving guys' heads into the ground...and slicing them in 2.

Looks like I'm going to be getting Orange Box. Hopefully some of you guys can patiently walk me through TF2, as I'll have no fucking clue what I'm doing

The Simpsons Game has an achievement for pressing the start button. rotfl

Why not! Stranglehold has an achievement for selecting one of the menu options.

I tried the demo last night, and the title screen came up saying "Press Start" and I jokingly hit A. It went through to the next screen. Looks like I would've missed that achievement. :(
