I've got a PS3 and a Wii. So, for me, the only one I might consider anytime soon is an Xbox 360...but I'm waiting for a game that's a must-get for me. I don't like playing FPS's on consoles, so Halo doesn't interest me much; and Bioshock and Gears of War are available (or will be) on PC anyway (as are Halo 1 and 2). Probably the most attractive thing on the 360 is Xbox live, but, where I live, we don't have fast Internet available, so I can't take advantage of it anyway! :-( The HD-DVD aspect is appealing too, but I'd need to buy it as an add-on, so it's held me back so far...
So, it comes down to games. I'm more of an RPGer than anything else, and Blue Dragon seemed to be getting only ok reviews...But Mass Effect is looking sweet. I wonder if it'll be on PC too, though...I'm really enjoying Jade Empire on PC right now.

The PS3 puts out just as much heat as a 360 don't fool yourself. And I wasn't aware that Microsoft forced people to buy faceplates.

Haven't bought any of the next gen or new gen consoles just yet although played them all for varying amounts of time, and of course read and listened to tons of reviews, opinions etc. I've listed the 3 in order of my current buying preference.
Positives
360
- massive library of good games I'd buy, and several more awesome games due the later half this year (Mass effect being my pick).
- Decently priced if not cheap
- Not much announced for '08 yet, but I'm sure this is a publicity strategy on the part of MS, and considering the current install base numbers I'm sure there will be a lot of great shit coming our way.
- A lot of previous exclusives for other platforms have come over to the 360 and fleshed out the library nicely.
- Live Arcade - paying $5 for a new or classic game with online multi and leaderboards built in seems like a better deal than some of the competition.
- The controller is the best, most comfortable traditional controller (d-pad sux though).
- Most multiplatform games are best on the 360 for various reasons.
I'd add Live itself, but I do think it should be free.
PS3
- If you have access to cheap Blueray rentals, then its a nice bonus. Personally I'm done with buying movies or tv shows on optical media, so I would only rent.
- Online is free.
- The next real Final Fantasy will probably be PS3 exclusive.
- Some cool ass BIG titles on the download service, with more coming, Tekken 5, and Warhawk so far.
- Runs quieter than the older 360 models and is a lot more reliable.
- DVD upscaling is meant to be rather nice.
Wii
- Controller has potential to be a different gameplay experience compared to the previous gen. Apparently Metroid controls brilliantly.
- Cheapish (although adding 3 remotes sets you back a bit)
- Has Zelda, and the next Mario.
- The wii has access to tons of classic nintendo platform games along with genesis, tg16, and neogeo (coming), although I think they are mostly overpriced. Still you can pick and choose the best of course!
- The most reliable backwards compatibility, for what it's worth to you being able to play GC games (no real interest for me).
- Selling like hot cakes, guaranteeing software support into the future.

Xbox 360: Bioshock, Halo 3, RE5, Assasin's Creed, XBox Live Arcade
PS3: good solid build, backwards compatibility, six axis (if developers ever really use it well)
Basically I would be much more likely to buy an XBox 360 over a PS3 because of the intriuging games that are coming out for it. The PS3 has a lot less going for it in terms of software but they do have a great platform.

I have a Wii and a PS2. I find myself wanting an Xbox 360 more and more. I want to play Bioshock really badly. And I've never really liked FPS's very much, but I also want to play Halo 3. I like the Wii a lot, but I don't think it's going to have much more staying power in my home unless the wife starts playing it a little more.
PS3 - I love the Metal Gear Solid games, so I'm excited for that, as well as Final Fantasy XIII. That's pretty much it though. I couldn't care less about HD or Blu-Ray capability from either system.

I have a 360 and a PSP and I am really happy with both. As for the faceplate issue, I have a few laying around. When I go to walmart they always have a couple on clearance for $1-3 so I pick it up. Nothing special just the wood plate and I think a silver one, yet I keep the white one on. The white console really grew on me. The PSP is a great handheld, IMO that is. I know games can have some load times that aren't normal for a handheld, but to be honest it never bothered me. I usually just end put it in sleep mode when I am done so it only takes a few seconds to get back to where I was. Between the games and the great multimedia functions I must say it is easily one of my favorite "toys". My only wish is better input choices for typing and better browser compatibility. Now for what this thread is about.
PS3: Blu-Ray, while I don't really want to support the format I wouldn't mind getting some HD goodness. It also has some really cool integration features with PSP that I would love to try out.
Wii: I wouldn't mind trying out the controls but the lack of HD really would bother me. I know gameplay is really important too, but I am just so used to the detail and beauty of HD now. It's kind of like how I usually put the Dish guide on HD first and try to find something interesting, if I just can't find something in HD then I will go look at the other channels.

The 360 has a ton of great games I would love to play, however, I'm not supporting the console due to its defective design. I hope this all gets worked out next year because I definitely have some games for it I would love to play. Thankfully the PC takes up some of that since I can play stuff like Bioshock there. Overall though the 360 definitely has the strongest game lineup of the consoles.
However, I own the Wii, PS3, DS and PSP so I have plenty to play.

I have a 360 and PSP right now, but I am interested in the PS3 when the price drops to the mid two hundreds.
It's a shame that sony focus so much on the PS3 being a blue ray player than a gaming machine. What a waste.
I see no Wii in my foreseeable gaming future plan. This system just doesn't have anything right now that interests me.

I have a 360 and a Wii (which I bought mainly for the kids), and I will buy the PS3 the second a must-have game arrives. I am tempted to buy it anyway for the BR, but will probably wait.
