My boss got a 360 after I told him about the games...it bricked on him after 2 nights of playing.

Don't kidd yourself. MS already admitted a 100% failure rate. You, my friend, have a ticking time bomb. Only a matter of time.

MS confirmed that every 360 they shipped was, essentially, defective and would RROD eventually. So, depending on when you bought your 360 (you might be safe if you got one that was manufactured in the past couple months), yes it is a matter of time.

Exactly.

My launch-day 360 is still out being repaired for the RROD. If it RRODs again, then I'll send it back in for repair, and when THAT returns, trade it and all of my 360 games and accessories for a PS3 (I'll need to do a little research on its multimedia capabilities first)... because as much as I like the 360, if MS can't fix it after they have claimed to know what the problem is, then I'm not going to wait it out while they get their act together.

I use my 360's multimedia capabilities as much as I do for gaming and it is a real inconvenience not having it. It's not just for gaming, but as a Media Center Extender, and media jukebox.

Did you get the drive, or upgrade to an Elite?
I went and got the Elite after my second RROD. I refused to be w/out a system for a month or so. As much as the shitty manufacturing by MS pisses me off, I love my freakin Xbox. It kicks the hell out of the PS3.

I'm still waiting on the HDMI/Elite whatever new version over here. Hopefully that will be at least reasonably reliable . I'm pretty sure every console on the shelves right now would have been from the first batch.

Any suggestions for offline multiplayer co-op games? Things like Diablo and Champions of Norrath/Baldur's Gate (console) have worked in the past.

Those of you with multiples: are you actually buying a second console to "tide you over" while waiting for the returned/repaired unit? If so, what do you do with the first one? Do you just keep both of them, or try to sell it? Either way, this makes me look at MS's sales figures with a little larger grain of salt.

I bought my Elite to tide me over. I plan to sell my Pro system to a friend who is mostly broke and has been wanting one for over a year.

So, anyone with an HDMI-Premium try to connect the HD A/V pack to get optical audio simultaneously with the HDMI cable for video? Yeah, that can't be done. The HD A/V pack covers half the HDMI port.

I need the dongle that comes with the Elite - the RCA/Optical break-out box, but the only way to get that from Microsoft is to buy their $50 HDMI pack that comes with the cable I don't need.

I don't have an HDMI receiver and 2.0 sound out of the TV is unacceptable.

I'm going to try pass the audio and video over HDMI to the TV and using the optical out from the TV to the receiver. Does anyone know if that'll work? Will the TV strip the DD5.1 from the input HDMI and pass it through to the receiver that way?

I think that depends on the TV. Some will pass 5.1 and others will only pass 2.0.

I did look up the online manual and it says it'll pass 5.1 that way, but I'm not sure if that means from any input or just from the HD Tuner or something.

Connect an Optical Cable between the "DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)" jacks on the TV and the Digital Audio Input jacks on the Digital Audio System.

When a Digital Audio System is connected to the "DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)" terminal:
Decrease the volume of the TV, and adjust the volume level with the system's volume control.

5.1CH audio is possible when the TV is connected to an external device supporting 5.1CH.
I just need to experiment, but I don't like this solution much. IMO, the display shouldn't output anything but an image your eye can see. But, if it saves me $50, that's cool too

Wow...MS should just fire all of their engineers and start from scratch. That seems like a pretty big issue to anybody with a receiver that doesn't take HDMI.

1 or 2 centimeters more of cushion would have averted this issue (if they even cared to avert it, that is).

not at all. you just have to know what to look for, that's all. they call the new ones the "PRO" systems, and can be found as the new premium package.

I love mine. It's a little quieter, the games don't get as hot, + comes with the HDMI port.

You're in Japan? I can't believe that they've even come close to selling the first shipment over here. And the new models aren't out yet, not till Oct I don't think.

My 3rd one just crapped out. Average life span of about 6 months each.

Every one one built in the first year or so is almost sure to fail at some point.

Another month down the crapper Xbox-wise. Of course I was 2 days into Madden.

I only hope the next one I get has a new heat sync or something that will keep it from happening again.

When I ask them what I got for the $60 Microsoft extended warranty (now that everyone has 3 years) they really don't have much of an answer.

I'm really amazed myself I've had no problems with my launch 360 none whatsoever. I have traveled with it to different states and reconnected with no problems. I am pleased that Microsoft has extended the warranty.

I guess I'm just confused that with my luck with consoles that I didn't get a crapper!!

I haven't either, although I got mine in July 2006. I've only had one freeze up ever.

The 3 year warranty only covers overheating issues. The extended warranty you purchased covers other issues, i.e. dvd drive failure

..oh, and still going strong with my launch console

Did anyone notice anything weird before the RROD occurred or did it just happen one day? Because I have had my system since launch with no problems. But just recently whenever playing games with dark levels or blacks, there seems to be some sort of blue lines or interference. Don’t really know what it is, but it goes away after I restart the system. It does seem to do it more frequently now. Anyone else have this problem?

For me it always starts the same. The game freezes and you get the "fuzzy" screen. Restart and no problems for a day or 2. Then another freeze, restart and another freeze in about 15 minutes. Restart, freeze immediately and forever.

I have not seen what you describe.

Good luck.
