I had no idea. Looks like, from wiki, that the NES version was a very loose version of the Arcade game while the Lynx version was basically a port with minor differences.

Got mine today. I really like them. I was tempted to buy some of the gloves, but passed because I thought they were overpriced. Glad I waited because these are excellent. The shape makes it much easier to use the Wiimote as an NES controller and overall the grip makes you feel in more control of the remote.

chess 10-24-07 09:44 PM

I got mine today too. They make the controller feel a little bulky to me, but I can see liking it for Wii Sports where the extra bulk feels right. I can also see using it for company and kids.

Overall, it takes an elegant piece of equipment and turns it straight up ugly...but if it adds some functionality some of the time, it's certainly worth having. Kudos to Nintendo for doing it.

I was also going to by some gloves too. I'm glad I waited as Nintendo has now saved me some money sending me the jackets! :D

bunkaroo 10-24-07 11:01 PM

How easy do the new gloves come off?

I have yet to send in for mine, but I have a charger that requires the rmeoval of any gloves.

It takes about 5sec to put on or off the WiiMote Condoms.

I can't decide if I like it or not. The extra plastic cushion they put on the head of the WiiMote looks really goofy, but I can see where it could help. I played about three hours of Metroid last night with it. I'll do the same tonight and see what I like better.

Groucho 10-25-07 03:59 PM

I was in Best Buy today (looking for Zack & Wiki -- no luck), and I saw Wiis on the shelf! Four or five of them. First time I've ever seen them "in the wild".

shumway 10-25-07 04:03 PM

Zack and Wiki isn't even listed on Best Buy's website yet.... still.

Never played the NES version. (never even owned an NES! I was a TurboGrafx/Duo/Express guy.) Did play the arcade version and I still have the Lynx version.

chess 10-25-07 08:42 PM

Thank goodness for Capcom...pretty much the only third party developer that's delivering on the Wii.

I suppose you could make a case for Ubisoft or EA too...but I don't really think so.

My copy of Guitar Hero III shipped yesterday, but it doesn't look like I will get it until Monday.

Mine shipped this morning.
I should also get it by monday.

Draven 10-26-07 09:51 AM

Well, I came into a little bit of money this past week, and an early morning trip to Target to get some stuff for my Halloween costume ended with me walking of the store with a brand new Wii under my arm!

I'm going to pick up an extra controller, Zelda and Metroid tomorrow. Can't believe I finally bit the bullet! And here I was going to get a new iPod instead...

aerobson 10-26-07 10:21 AM

I haven't turned my Wii on in several months (probably June), and forgive my laziness, but I didn't want to go back through hundreds of pages of posts.

What have I missed? Are there any important updates? Will my Wii know which are missing, or will I have to know which ones I need to download? I think it's about time to fire it back up and see what happens.

Michael Corvin 10-26-07 10:34 AM

Just go to the WiiWare section of the store. There has been a browser update, a system update and a third one that is escaping me at the moment.

dx23 10-26-07 04:57 PM

The third update was something about the Everybody Votes Channel, which in my opinion, is one of the most useless thing ever put on a video game console.

Baron Of Hell 10-26-07 11:32 PM

They also added the ability to use a keyboard.

Nintendo rules out price cut for Wii console

TOKYO - Fresh off bumper earnings, Nintendo ruled out a price cut for its smash-hit Wii video game console Friday and announced the company will being selling the Wii in China next year.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata also unveiled a gift-giving feature that will allow users to send each other games over the Internet, boosting the Wii's network offerings.

Profits at Nintendo have surged on the runaway success of the Wii and the portable Nintendo DS machine in North America, Europe and Japan, forcing Sony and Microsoft to slash console prices in a desperate catch-up bid ahead of the holiday season.

Iwata said the company was struggling to meet demand of the Wii and a price cut was out of the question. The Wii sells for $249.99 in North America, 249 euros in Europe and 25,000 yen in Japan — all less than Sony's PlayStation 3 or Microsoft's XBox 360.

"We're still focusing on how to meet booming demand," Iwata said Friday. "We're absolutely not considering a price cut." He said Nintendo was ramping out 1.8 million Wii consoles per month but that a supply crunch was inevitable during the Christmas sales.

A three-way battle
Nintendo's confidence ahead of the critical Christmas shopping season reflects the Wii's strength in a three-way battle of current generation video game consoles against the PS3 and Xbox 360, as well as the continued popularity of the handheld DS console.

The maker of Pokemon and Super Mario games has chosen a different strategy from Sony and Microsoft, wooing novices with low-cost and user-friendly machines unlike the more expensive consoles of its rivals.

With its wandlike remote control for fishing, golfing, tennis and other video games, Nintendo's Wii console has won over fans from young children to rehab patients.

Sony's top-line PlayStation model, with an 80 gigabyte hard drive, now costs $499 in the U.S., down from $599. A new low-end model with a 40-gigabyte drive will go on sale Nov. 2 for $399.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 costs $350 in the United States.

Nintendo has also won a following for the DS console — which stands for "dual screen" — with a lineup of low-cost, casual software like "Nintendogs," "Brain Age" and "Nintendo Cooking."

Nintendo shipped about 3.9 million Wii units around the world in the last three months, bringing the total since its launch last year to 13.2 million units. The company has sold 53.6 million DS consoles.

Iwata said it was banking on the "Wii Fit" game due out later this year in Japan to buoy future sales. The game allows players to weigh themselves, check their balance and play fitness games like yoga, hula hoops and ski jumping.

Sending games as gifts
Nintendo also unveiled a function Friday that allows users to send each other games over the Internet using the Wii's shopping channel.

With a few clicks, a user will be able to select a game to send as a gift to another user online, Iwata said. When the recipient accepts, the Wii automatically launches the shopping channel and begins the download.

"We think this will be a breakthrough in encouraging customers to spread news of fun games word of mouth," Iwata said. "We also hope to spur more users to connect their Wiis to the Internet," he said.

Looking ahead, Iwata said the company would start selling Wiis in China next year, opening up a previously untapped market for the Kyoto-based company.

"We barely have enough Wiis to meet global demand this year. But next year, we can bring the Wii to China," Iwata said.

Nintendo still needed to work with Chinese games developers to craft games suited to the market there, Iwata said.

He declined to give a sales target, but said Nintendo's "future potential there is huge."

I guess that's kinda cool, me being able to buy someone else a VC or WiiWare game instead of giving them points to buy it themselves. Now if only they'd let you buy exactly how many points you want at a time...

darkside 10-27-07 02:03 PM

What would be nice is the ability to give away games you bought. Have it deactivated on your account and sent to someone else. We all buy games we end up not liking, but it sucks with digital content because you are stuck with it. I would love the option to give the game to someone else that might like it.

pinata242 10-27-07 03:10 PM

No doubt, or even resell for $2-$3. I guess there would be no restriction though on them giving it back. Like if we all went in on a community copy of Super Mario 3 for 27-cents a piece or something. We'd just have to work out visitation rights

I could see maybe limiting the moving of the file to only one time to prevent abuse, but I should have the right to give somebody something.

Ravenous 10-28-07 04:23 AM

Can someone help me out here.

Any info on the Wii Zapper? I know itll come with Zelda but will it be sold sepratley? I dont want to have to buy 2 zeldas! Maybe a 3rd party will release a cheaper one or something?

I think you're confused. It comes with a special shooting type game specifically made for use with the Wii zapper using the Zelda setting. It's not the same Zelda game that's already been out since launch.

Giantrobo 10-28-07 07:50 AM

Isn't that new Resident Evil game one that uses the Zapper?

I suppose it does, but then again the zapper is nothing more than a $20 shell for the wii-mote and nunchuck. So, really you could play any of those games without the zapper.

I know that's been a common criticism, but I've actually heard quite a few people who had hands-on with it, liked it. And it's not quite $20, because it comes with a game thats probably worth $10 or more itself -- though you are forced to buy the whole package.

But you're right.. any game that uses the Zapper can be played without it as well.

The Wii Zapper is one control option for some upcoming games like Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles', 'Ghost Squad' and 'Medal of Honor Heroes 2'.

MoH2 even has a special Arcade mode, that was specifically designed for Wii Zapper control.

No not confused, I just didnt specify that I knew it was Links Crossbow Training that was the freebie I just call all those games "Zelda"

I dont want to have to own 2 copies of that Link game so I can have 2 zappers! Thats my concern.

I'm sure the game will have resell value since you can play it without the zapper shell. If you can sell the game for $5-$10 it just makes the zapper cheaper.

Michael Corvin 10-28-07 09:42 PM

$5 for it right now. :)

superdeluxe 10-29-07 12:01 AM

The GHIII bundle is sold out at best buy (online)

Ravenous 10-29-07 01:23 AM

That may be a good option, though Im sure most gamers want the game with zapper. We should keep our fingers crossed for a cheap 3rd party!

On another note, is there a way to permanatley sync a 2nd player controller to the wii? Im tired of having to go to the add more area and press the 1+2 buttons. Any ways around this?

Michael Corvin 10-29-07 06:17 AM

?

I have three that are synced. I haven't touched the sync button since Feb. when I got my last controller.
