So I ended with the following for $210 after taxes:
* 4000 Wii points (800 of those will be gone in 10 minutes... Opera, here I come... too bad I missed out on the free download :( ). * Wii Play * Carnival Games * Mario Party 8 * Wario Ware Smooth Moves * Big Brain Academy * Mario Strikers (and an extra controller... it's really my niece's (my sister paid for it) but since she doesn't have a Wii it stays at my house and I can play with other people whenever she's not here... she's probably here about 1-2 hours a week). I'm going to return Mario Strikers (unopened) within the next 45 days for another game. I got everything I wanted that has already been released and I know I'm going to hate Mario Strikers (too much skill-based). There's only 2 things that really interest me of what has been announced so far (that I've heard about or read about in video game magazines): the stadium game (does anyone know the name?) and Rayman Raving Rabbids 2. I really like mini-game compilations (could you tell? :D). My 2 most-played games are: * Neon Hockey (air hockey) * Ping Pong Other favorites are Tennis, Bowling, the shooting game, and the cow racing game. Just on those I can spend hours. |
I don't think this new press release about the Wii Zapper and the Zelda pack-in has been posted yet:
Link returns from The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess to pick up the Wii Zapper and take aim at a host of targets in this shooting-gallery-style game. * Anyone can pick up the Wii Zapper and become a master marksman in the quick-play shooting galleries of Link's Crossbow Training. Dozens of fast-paced stages offer a wide variety of game play, from shooting stationary targets to defending a supply wagon from onrushing hordes of enemies. Multiplayer modes let players and their friends share a Wii Zapper to shoot for the high score. * Link's Crossbow Training comes bundled with the Wii Zapper. After a few rounds of Link's Crossbow Training, players will be more than ready to pick up any of the future Wii Zapper titles, like Medal of Honor Heroes™ 2, Ghost Squad™ and Resident Evil®: The Umbrella Chronicles. Using the Wii Zapper: The Wii Zapper requires the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, housing both in a comfortable and intuitive frame. The control stick on the Nunchuk controls player movement (on stages that allow player movement), while simply aiming the Wii Zapper moves the targeting reticule on the screen. Pulling the trigger fires Link's crossbow. By aiming off screen, players can turn Link to face in a new direction (again, on stages that allow this). Link's Crossbow Training contains three basic game styles: target shooting, defender and ranger. There are 27 stages in total, and these categories represent only generally how each individual stage operates. Each stage's goal is to earn the highest score possible within the time limit. All rounds can be played with multiple players: Players pass the Wii Zapper around and then play one at a time and compete for the high score. Target Shooting: In target-shooting rounds, players shoot bull's-eyes as they pop up on the screen. In early stages, targets are stationary. As the game difficulty increases in later levels, the targets move. Hitting the center of the bull's-eye nets more points, and hitting targets in succession without missing earns combo multipliers. Link can aim anywhere on the screen. Defender: In defender rounds, players remain stationary but can look and aim in all directions - sometimes even in a full 360 degrees - by aiming off screen. Hordes of enemies assault Link, and he must fight them off. These battles have a great deal of variety, from fighting off skeletons in a desert to defending a wagon from boar-riding Bokoblins. Ranger: In ranger rounds, players can move throughout the level using the control stick and aim anywhere they want by aiming the Wii Zapper wherever they want to look. In these missions, Link storms enemy encampments, fights his way through a forest and seeks out his foes while exploring the environments. |
Question: I got the new Wii Set up but it doesn't recognize neither of the two Wiimotes... it's on the first setup screen asking me to press A, but neither of the Wiimotes work. How do you add a Wiimote to the Wii? :(
Also how do you add a second remote to Mario Party 8? Tried to do it yesterday without avail. And the manual wasn't any help. |
Deb...it may sound crazy, but take a look at last year's Madden.
The minigames in Madden 07 for Wii were my favorite part of that game, and since 08 is out, you should be able to get it dirt cheap. Unless you just hate football. Also, there are several other minigame collections coming out, like Wii Fit, the Playground game from EA, and a few others...I saw something yesterday with badmitton and archery... |

WiiFit shall be mine on release day, but I don't count that as a game... that way when I buy it, it will be for my *cough*health*cough* :D What's the name of the playground game? Any other minigame games you know of? Can't get enough of them :) I've played enough by now to know that I will never like Mario games (I watch walkthroughs of the entire games on YouTube for the enjoyment) or Zelda games (ditto). I'm not interested in playing for 2 hours to beat a boss. I want to sit down and have fun, and there are games that do that for me :) |

Yay I finally discovered on Nintendo.com The Secret Of The Wiimote Sync Button :D I had an inkling that my remote was missing the old Wii a bit much. Right now it's updating the firmware (which takes a looooong time) so I'm chilling while it finishes. And I think the Wiimote Sync button is the secret to Mario Party 8 also.
I'll probably pick up EA Playground but I'm not sure on Deca Games - seems too much skill based. I want simplicity :) |
I'm posting this from my Wii!! :D I was even able to watch the embedded YouTube video!
|
BTW I was sure Opera was 800 points, but I went to get it now and it was 500 points, so if it's 800 points regularly it might be a promotion. Just a heads up if anyone wanted to buy it :)
|
It's always been 500 points (well, it was free until June -- but since then always 500).
|
Kind of Gamecube/wii compatibility newbie question: Do I need a Gamecube memory card to save my progress on Gamecube games I play on the Wii?
|
Yes you do. Once you go into "GC" mode in the Wii, none of the Wii functions work - including the Wiimote's "home" button to take you back to the menu. You've got to reset to get back.
|
That's wiidiculous.
|
I don't know why they couldn't save to the memory and/or the SD card like Wii Games. It had to be too technologically difficult.
Other than games, what can I buy with Wii points? Already got Opera. |

Just got the new EGM yesterday with a multipage article on how the Wii is a dumping ground for bad games and how Nintendo's "seal" means pretty much nothing these days. Valid points, no doubt. Perhaps Nintendo has gone from being too hard to work with to being too easy to work with.
I could go either way. I'd like to see Nintendo do a better job of protecting the Wii's image, but I'm also a big fan of the free market. The cream will rise for those of us who are selective about what we play. What I worry about is uneducated consumers giving money to lazy developers and validating their strategy of dumping bad games on the Wii. I worry about all of the ports a bit as well. I am completely fine with ports as long as they add a new control element that makes sense, like RE4 or Okami (crosses fingers), but some of the ports we've seen have just been shoehorned onto the wii with some gimmicky waggle controls. |

But they're right -- there are a lot of bad games being thrust upon the Wii. That's a side effect of being the leading console, and has been since the Atari 2600. |

I calling it a dumping ground is a little extreme. Ultimately consumers will dictate what the market will bear. The console is still pretty young and programmers have to re-think how they create games to maximize the technology. I always expected the learning curve for the Wii to be a little steeper. Not that the programming language is more difficult than any other system -- it's the effective implementation of the Wiimote. More and more games will get it right. In the meantime, we just have to be patient and not throw down money for these half-assed ports and sideshow mini-game collections out of desperation for something to play. The DS should serve as a good timeline since that really took off after about two years. There's still plenty to look forward to on the Wii and I don't fault Nintendo for its progress. In their hope to bring more games to the Wii, they've had to give their "seal" to real crap just to keep the games coming while programmers work to play catch up on the system nobody really saw coming. I blame the developers for lacking the foresight to see the market potential of the system.
Hell, my parents just bought one and they haven't played a video game console since the Intellivision. I know this story has been replayed a few dozen times on this board, but I still never thought I'd be the one telling it. |

They need to give him his own Sony podcast and get him the hell off 1up Yours. Without Luke to balance him and keep him in check, the show is almost unlistenable anymore. Rant aside, EGM dismisses anything that isn't hardcore without a fair shake. |

Not that every game for the casual market is bad, of course. |
Hey, any Nintendo console that gives me a solid Metroid, Zelda, and Mario in the first 15 months is OK in my book...especially when there's a Smash Bros and a Mario Kart in the wings as well.
I just commented because it was the first negative press I've seen the Wii get...and it was valid. And other than RE4 (a port), I have yet to see a really good third party Wii title. |

I have really high hopes for it... but I've high hopes for a few games now that have gotten poor reviews. Of course, I've noticed some games that got really poor critic reviews have scored much better with gamers. My Sims = 8.4 on Gamefly, 7.5 on Metacritic. Boogie = 7.9 on Gamefly, 5.9 on Metacritic. |
