The culprit was my 3-year-old.
He finally cracked after several minutes of questioning... He's serving hard time right now. I'm such a mean dad. |
I picture the poor guy sitting under a bright lamp in a dark room getting grilled about it.
Poor kid. |

Looks like I'll go back and get it. |
At cag.com there were some people who picked up Carnival games and so far, nothing negative and that it's pretty good. I picked it up from Blockbuster today with some store credit, unfortunately I won't be able to try it out till next week.

Went and got Carnival Games from Best Buy with the 10% off coupon from another thread.
Initial reaction... I do not like the controls and the waiting in between turns is horribly repetitive. The games are more chance than anything else (and they are that way in real life, I know, so why complain). And to top things off, my wife and were playing the Competitive Mode (Head to Head) and every time that we select Fortune Way or Payloader Place the transition goes down to the small circle, we hear crowd noises and then it hangs... and never comes back out of it. We have tried this 5 or 6 times and the same result happens every time. Anyone else heard of this problem? We're going to try the single mode and see if we can get to those games. But besides the problem we're having, I'm not impressed with Carnival Games. |
Gameplay video...
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8onNGvhFK1E"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8onNGvhFK1E" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> It looks OK I guess...but I wouldn't pay $40 for it. |

My opinion now: Single Player  | Multi Player  | Worth: $25

No VC games for today? Maybe it's because of Labor Day.

4 games today.
Adventure Island (NES®, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Comic Mischief, 500 Wii Points): A mysterious tropical paradise known as Adventure Island is the setting for this side-scrolling action game. The evil Witch Doctor has kidnapped Tina, the true love of Master Higgins. To save her, you must safely guide Master Higgins through eight perilous stages - including dense forests and creepy caves - while defeating all of the enemies in your path. Each area is made up of four rounds filled with enemies determined to stop you in your tracks. In addition, as time passes, Master Higgins's vitality is automatically drained. To keep going, he must eat constantly by grabbing fruit, milk and whatever other goodies he can as he races toward his goal. Sometimes eggs containing miraculous items like axes to throw at enemies or honey that grants temporary invincibility will appear. Use items skillfully to help you clear the areas. At the end of each area you'll face the Witch Doctor, who you must defeat to advance. Go, Master Higgins, go! Donkey Kong Jr. Math (NES, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Learning can be fun, especially when you play along with Donkey Kong Jr. Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division by directing Junior, a cute little monkey who must climb up and down vines to collect numbers and math symbols to solve the math problems his father gives him. Compete with a friend in a race to solve problems in Game A or add more challenge with Game B. Of course, you can also practice on your own. This game is perfect for younger players who are looking for a fun and easy way to develop their math skills. Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole™ (Sega Genesis, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): After hearing of the legendary treasure of King Nole, the elvish treasure hunter Nigel undertakes a quest to gather various pieces of the famed loot. His journey takes him through Mercator Island's villages, caves and dungeons that hold King Nole's riches. Along the way, he'll have to help the inhabitants of the island while fighting against the treachery of Duke Mercator, who is searching for the treasure as well. A variety of obstacles and foes will try to deter Nigel, who must use all his wits and skills to defeat Duke Mercator and uncover the secret of King Nole's treasure. Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone - Comic Mischief, 600 Wii Points): The hard-headed hero is back for more side-scrolling action in the third installment of the popular Bonk series. It's up to Bonk once again to thwart the plans of the relentless evil King Drool. There are seven rounds scattered throughout the Dinosaur Kingdom, each one filled with fun contraptions and comical enemies. Grab a Flower Copter or exchange 16 Smileys at the end of each round to play up to eight different bonus stages. Or you can change the size of Bonk by grabbing the new red or blue candy items. Depending on the situation, you can change your size to bonk your way through a dead end or to get a hard-to-reach item. And if that's not enough, you can grab a friend and put your heads together to defeat King Drool in the new two-player mode. |
I remember renting and beating Adventure Island with my buddies one weekend... many, many, many moons ago!

omfg Landstalker. Just finished Shining Force. Perfect.
|
Adventure Island  That's a blast from the past.
|
I still have my Adventure Island cart (And my AI 2, AI 3, and Super AI 2 carts). I love that game. Warning: It gets very hard in the later levels, especially if you die and lose your axe.
If you want any chance of beating the game: Spoiler:

Mother of Gaming Goodness, Landstalker!
I give up a decade of my lifespan to play a true sequel as good this gem again, enjoy! |

I just purchased 'Carnival Games' for the Wii this weekend.
This game is my bitch. Pretty simple. Cheesy graphics, but the kids love it. There are like 25 carnival games from shooting gallery, skee ball, ring toss, coin toss, test your strength, etc... as well as unlockable 'super games'. You win tickets to unlock clothes for your character. Standard fair. You have numerous movements with just the Wiimote. A disc tossing motion, underhand / overhand throwing, holding the Wiimote like a football / dart, and the typical 'shake the shit out of the Wiimote until your arm falls off' (although I found that using the 'lasso method' over the head works just as well and saves your arm). The BIG issue that I have, is that you don't have the option to select a left-handed style, so I had to really work on doing the disc motion with the right hand that set me back a bit of time. I was also not thrilled w/ the limited options of character creation. Pretty much, you repeatedly play the games to go from small prizes to the 'grand prize'. I unlocked everything and have all the prizes ranging from small to grand and did it in a matter of hours. Of course, there's the multi-player action so you can play with up to four people. Was I happy I purchased it? For me, no. For the kids, yes. |
Has anyone had the "Michael Jackson" Mii show up on their console yet? He's eerily accurate and creepy as hell.
How do you know if your own Mii has gone to another console? I have my main one set to "travel" and I was wondering if he's shown up anywhere. I created a Transgender Mii but I'm not going to let him travel out of fear for "her" life. :( |

Me too! Are you part of these forums? http://www.uverseusers.com/component...d,2/board,1.0/ http://utalk.att.com/utalk/ Chris Not to sidetrack too much from Wii. I am freaking thrilled that Harvey Birdman is confirmed for the Wii in November. This is a must buy for me and I would have bought it on PS2. Thankfully I can enjoy its point and click goodness with the Wiimote. $10 extra bucks for the Wii version, but I will gladly pay it. |
A new game from Vanillaware was just announced for Wii and it's looks a lot like Odin Sphere!!
It's called Oboro Muramasa Youtouden. http://gonintendo.com/wp-content/upl...9_122_23lo.jpg http://gonintendo.com/wp-content/upl...122_1009lo.jpg |

So I finally am to the point where I've given up on Nintendo coming up with a way to use their USB Wi-Fi connector under Vista. I guess I have no choice other than to get a router. What relatively cheap router do you all recommend. I will pretty much only be using the router for my Wii so compatability and ease of setting up are the most important things.
