i really think people are misinterpreting the reasoning for these pricedrops. everything i have heard and read says that MS is going to be releasing the 65nm chips with new motherboards this fall. supposedly ALL units will have HDMI including the core and premium. MS is trying to accomplish two things with these price cuts:

1. stay ahead of sony with low price
2. clear out the older versions of the consoles. once new models hit, nobody is going to buy these older units unless the prices are slashed way, way low

i'm sure the percentage of core/premium/elite versions out in the stores is something like 20/60/20. obviously there are many, many more premiums out there in the retail channels than anything else so the premium gets the biggest price cut. if they price the elite too close to the premium, nobody is going to buy the premium, hence tons of premiums remain on store shelves.

several rumors that there is going to be another price cut on the newer units before christmas....

Where did this all HDMI rumor come from. Unless they do go through with that, there will be no way of knowing when the 65 hits. It's not like they are going to market it... xbox 360 now with 88% fewer RRODs!

I have seen a couple people mention it, but I have never seen it on any mainstream gaming site like Gamespot or IGN. I don't know where it is coming from.

Why would MS put HDMI in the Premium? I thought that was the main selling point of the Elite? If the Premium gets HDMI, the only difference will be a 100 GB bigger hard drive for $100 more... kind of pointless.

This is the first time I've heard of HDMI on Core and Premium systems. I'd like to see a link to a credible source rather than rumor.

What I don't understand is why the Halo edition has HDMI but only has a 20gb HD.

There were some rumors when the Elite hit that HDMI would eventually be on the Premium.. the Halo LE adds a bit of credibility to that, but I'll wait until it comes in the standard white, that Halo 360 looks absolutely horrible.

Not a fan of the green, but I'm a sucker for orange. The orange trim/highlights kicks ass.

Nah.. the Halo 3 console is very nice looking. If it has the new chipset, I'm going to replace my 360 with it. I can sell off my current 360 and only pay a slight upgrade cost out of pocket.

However, if you need to upgrade your hard drive, it'll look odd...

Not when you can [presumablly] purchase the LE 120GB Halo HDD seperately at the ultra low cost of $200.
